The thing about vitamines I HATE

Well, I've just recently started taking vitamines again, and I have a gripe.
They want you to take 2 of these things, 2 or 3 times daily!
What the heck?
Why can't they just give me my dose at one time? I can barely remember to take these things ONCE a day, much less 2 or 3 times a day! Others only want you to take 1 once a day - that works for me. I just don't get it.
I do take a pill at night, maybe I should start adding that nasty vitamine to that one and get it twice a day, but good grief!
Anyone else bothered by these instructions or are they just to get you to by more vitamines? Or do you know why they want you to do it this way?

I agree with you on that, I take vitamins, but I only take them once a day. I also take other medicines 3 times a day. I take 20 pills a day, I'm not kidding, and believe me, I get tired of it, but my husband says thats probably what keeps me alive. Anyway, my nephew told me one day, that he was going to be a scientist when ge grows up, I said why, he said he was going to come up with a way to combine all my pills into one big pill, so I wouldn't have to take that many anymore.lol. Thats what reminded me of it, when you said why can't they just pack it all into one big pill?..who knows maybe he will someday...Have a good day

With the vitamins you get at health food stores or the ones that contain natural ingredients you often have to take them twice. I used to take them in the morning before breakfast and before supper. The ones like One a Day you can take once a day, but it depends on how good they do. You do not have to chew the vitamins, do you? I know if you do they are nasty tasting but it does says to swallow them and you can drink a lot of water with them. Usually you can get away with the one a day vitamins unless you are losing weight and then you need the ones that are natural because you might not get that much vitamins in your food. Also if you cannot eat the required number of fruits and vegetables then you have to have the required two a day vitamins.
I know we do not get enough fruit up here and I am trying to lose, so I should buy the two a day, but cannot afford to get them.

Now we get back to that silly old corn allergy. Most of the "cheap" one-a-day type pills, have that nasty old corn starch in it. In fact, even some of the more expensive ones have it. I have to be very careful to by corn free ones, at least I can find them easier now than 30 years ago when I first started this food allergy.

I understand when they want you to take it more than once a day, it's to keep the levels up in your system. But it's too hard for me to remember to even take one a day!
You could always buy one of those pill reminders and leave it out, hoping that you'll spot it on the counter when it's time to take another one...

I have a hard time trying to remember pills. It's nuts when you have to take them muliple times a day. Maye the manufacterers think hey have to make the pills too big for you o get the dose you need. I don't know why, since ere are plenty of smaller pills out there. I'd start looking or a dierent viimin that you won't have to take once a day, or eve twice, if necessary.

I recently bought me all kinds of vitamins also and was taking them regularly but have not been doing it lately. I lost track of when to take them also. I was only taking them one time a day too and then started forgetting them. some of the are huge like horse pills also. I think they do it to make you buy more of them. I do not see why they could not make the pill to give us both doses all in one pill. they may want us to take them twoce a day just in case alot gets flushed out when we go to the bathroom also. that is just a thought.

I am SO there, Slick! I'm taking Flax seed oil (because I'm afraid of becoming sensative to the fish oil ones), an iron pill, a super B comples and calcium/magnesium and zinc pill. The first one is 2 large, nasty gel caps and the last are 3 pills, I figure I'm doing good to get them in the morning.

I have noticed that too. I keep forgetting to take them for just that reason. I have noticed that some vitamins are "one a day" while other "suppliments " have to be taken more than once a day. Why they can't make these in one pill, or gelcap with the total milligrams needed per day is beyond me. Like you say maybe it's a way to sell more.

Hi ElicBxn,
I am also very forgetful about taking pills or vitamins..LOL!
My husband place it in our bathroom so it is very visible and no excuse not to take it in the morning although, I am not taking my vitamins daily only when I feel sick and tired!

Vitamins cause some people indigestion or constipation or both. I am one of the both people. Spreading the dose out over the day isn't as hard on my system and my mom the nurse said that is why some doctors prescribe a smaller dose pill to be taken several times. Some manufacturers went to this also because of customer complaints of constipation.

Now that makes sense, but I'm still not going to REMEMBER to take them later! or 3 times a day. Heck, when I was taking PAIN meds, I only remembered to take them because I was on a regular schedule, something I'm not particularly on now. I more times than not, don't get a lunch and often forget breakfast on weekends.
I was, in fact, telling my roomie on Monday that I really needed to eat more than 2 meals over a weekend.

I would think if it was time released, you would only need to take it once a day. Where did you get these vitamins from?

Dude... what if you take one big pill and reaction starts?
i think i won't be wrong if i say that taking a pill at a time gives one pill to work in body effectively, one big pill might be an harmful over dose.
you see that is why in a pill there is definite amount of various chemicals. Like a paracetamol is taken when u get fever it is not needed otherwise, one pill at a time prevents the need of next if the fever is gone. So is true with other pills when doctor asks you to continue for a week and then return for further tests later if it doesn't work. The idea is - Minimum dosage to prevent over dosage also this implies less unwanted wastage in the form of big pill when only a small one can do the job which leads to a lower cost!
i am sure if i write more you will personally shoot me!!!!

I don't really mind taking different pills for what I want to take, I don't need some things, or maybe I should say, don't want them. For example, I don't take Vit. C because I'm taking Iron. I don't even mind taking more than one of a pill to keep it from being too big, but why not get the daily dose all at once? I'll happily take 3 pills once a day - in fact, I am, but I don't want to take them twice a day... Maybe I'd feel differently if I felt I needed the mineral more? I know, I'm in early stage ostoprosis, but to prevent it, I should've been taking them 30 years ago, at 54 its a little late....

I've seen the 2 or 3 times a day instructions too. It is a bit much and a little difficult to do when I'm at work during the day. I keep some vitamins in my desk drawer and take those after lunch.
My big gripe about some of the vitamins is they're too big for me to take! I can't swallow larger pills very well - they get stuck! I have to cut them up so I can take them. So for some pills, I would rather take 2 or 3 small ones, versus having to cut up one big one.

Ya know, that's what I thought, take more, spend more - do we really need to take 6-9 a DAY?
I do know that some people don't/won't/can't eat properly and need suppliments, but other's over take them.
I know at one point one company even got slapped down for telling people to take more than they needed - but that was quite some time ago.

It seems like they could come up with a pill that all you have to do is take it once a day. But so far I have not seen one that all you have to do is take one. Sometimes I wonder if vitamons is just a big business thing that the manufactors know that people will buy the product. It seems like there could be a simpler way of taking vitamons.

hi ElicBxn wait until you are older and have to take a lot of p;ills. I take three for my high boood pressure, two for myh'diabetes, and on for my arthritis, plus calcium, iron and multivatimins. so mayhbe that will make your own pill taking sound a little easier.lol.

Honestly, I know about taking a lot of pills. My doctor worries about the day I will start to need them. Fact is that I did take more, but I cut them out when I retired, for some reason I'm not so depressed since I'm out of that cra.. stupid job. He's pretty much said that I'm going to be hard to get pills for because of the corn starch in them.
I, however, say that corn IS the root of all health problems and since I don't eat any I'm 54 with low blood pressure and very borderline low blood sugar. I do take cymbalta for my foot problem, seems to be helping my fibromyalgia too and naproxen as I need it.
But read those "inactive" ingrediants some time. If it says "starch" "modified starch" "food starch" and consider that it probably is corn starch.
