Most people profess a belief in God, some in many Gods or Goddesses, but many think very little more about it. My question is if you could see God or a God or Goddess, what do you think he/she would look like? I remember being taught as a child that God is without body, parts or passions. That seemed rather strange to me, but then I met the Mormons who told me that oh yes, God had a body just like us. I don't know about the holy books of others religions, but the Bible says that we cannot look upon God and live. Does that mean that when we die we will be able to see God? So back to my question, What do you think God looks like?

Everyone here has their own bias of how to present God. As for me, since I strongly hold christianese views, then would I say to you that God is spirit, but was clearly defined when Jesus came into flesh. The definition Jesus gave wasn't absolute. God is too far from us to have an absolute description. The bible gives us a glimpse about who He is, but is limited as well. It gives us ideas about God in accord of our own limitations.

God is spirit and no human being can see Him because a spirit does not have a bodily form. But, we humans have spirit too and our spirits can connect with God's. He is so holy that no man can see and live.I believe in what the Bible says.

Hi Pose123! It was written in the Bible that we are created in the image and likeness of God. Although, people will interpret that in different ways..I would like to believe that God is someone who has a body just like you and me. Although His Body is Gloriously clothed in Magnificent Light, still I believe that He has a Body that looks like yours and mine. In my thinking that is what I want to believe and how I picture Him in my mind, someone I can call My Father and Someone I know has a resemblance to me somehow.
Take care always..God Bless!

Hi Pose So good to read a Post by you!
People spend too much time putting Human attributes on Hashem (The Name). He is not Human and does not look, act, or react in a Human way. I believe that Hashem is pure Knowledge. As you go through the Torah, you find so many references to the importance of knowledge and study. Without knowledge how could anything exixt in the Universe? Knowlege is one of the most important parts of a Jew's life. Once again I have put a Human attribute on Hashem, but with our limited abilities to express ourselves it is difficult to do otherwise.
Now to answer your question. You cannot see knowledge, but you can use it, absorb it, incorporate it into every part of your life and existance. You can also answer for its use and will one day.
Hashem has no form, yet He surounds us and knows us just as surely as we are reading and writing here. When we pass to the next exixtence, and only then, will we know what will happen.
I believe that when we are finally in His presence, we will judge ourselves. His awesomness will cause us to become the harshest judgest ever known on earth.

Thank-you Kitty and thank-you Pose! It is always a pleasure responding to your Posts!
My comments are not necessarily Jewish beliefs however. They are my own. I am slightly eclectic. I often butt heads with the Rabbi.lol One nice thing about being Jewish is that the Talmud teaches us that it is permissable to argue with Hashem as long as when we are done, we still follow His law and still believe in Him!
Shalom

I don't really think one can perceive God like the way I can perceive my friend because God by definition has to be outside of the dimension of time and space. If he is bound by time and space then God cannot really be God. Since God is so lofty and is beyond time and space one cannot even define God and put him in a box by words... I would therefore say one cannot see God. But it one wants to know God then look at Jesus. That's the way I see. Blessings!

I can imagine a Spiritual Presence that is full of light. This light is so bright that all the world can see it, but no one needs to wear shades. It is the most pure thing that has ever entered this world. I believe that when we go to heaven, we will have glorified bodies and the says that we will be like Him and see him as he is. When Jesus came down, he was in the form of flesh and blood, but I do not put much stock in what the Mormons say.
