In my Hometown in the Philippines we only boiled the rice with the plain water but now that I am here in Kuwait we also make our rice in different ways like first boiled the water with the salt and oil after a while mixed with your favorite spices (cardamon, turmeric, bay leaf, whole black pepper then (Half cooked) the rice then throw the excess water then prepare the onion to fry then put it back in the pan then put the fried onion in the top of the rice then slow your fire......What about in your place, Do u have another way of preparing Rice...//////????????

I have never been good at cooking rice, it always turns out gluggy, as much as I love it, I would prefer to buy it from a chinese restaurant, I did buy a rice cooker after watching a chef on TV said it makes the best rice and it really does but ii is so much trouble cleaning it and all it seems silly to make just a small amount.

I always had that trouble when I bought the cheaper long grain rice, but this last time when I bought rice I bought Jasmine rice. It does not clump up on me at all. It turns out great. It has a bit of a different texture than rice I usually make. I am glad I got the Jasmine this time. I think I will get it from now on.

Hello iyah10,
I always have plain rice where I just need to cook it with plain water (like you did before) but once a while, I cook differently. I think I understand what you mean as I sometimes do the same too. My husband is from different country and the way they cook their rice is slightly different from mine. He will fry all the ingredients first, and cook the chicken or beef and then all will be cooked together with the rice. I like his way sometimes as I can taste a different style of rice cooking and it is really delicious.

I am from India we do eat a lot of rice.I do boil the rice with plain water.I make different varieties of rice.Using the rice cooker to make rice is very convenient and comes out properly done.Like you I put in all the spices add mint leaves, coriander leaves some tomato and onion add some meat and that is biryani. With the cooked rice i make tomato rice, lime rice, tamarind rice, coconut rice, ghee rice etc.I even make fried rice.

I like to use basmati rice as it's easy to cook. I put two cups of water for every one cup of rice. I sometimes add some vegetables to it and bring it to the boil for a few minutes then cover and simmer till dry.

Yes, I do not like plain rice so I try to spruce it up some. I will saute garlic, onion, green peppers and fresh tomatoes, I will use salt and pepper. When the rice is done, I mix it with the vegetables, and turn the heat down to simmer, I will let all the flavors blend for about 10 min. I think it tastes really good.

well what i normally do is to cook rice the usual way it is cooked here in the Philippines but i often cook excess amount for dinner so that there will be enough rice left i can put in the refrigirator and then fry it the next morning for breakfast. for fried rice, i melt the butter, then saute the garlic then fry the rice, then i add whipped egg. once i see that the egg are cooked. it's done. have a good day:)-NEIL™

I make it with hot water and a little bit of margarine, sometimes I salt it sometimes I don't just depends on how I feel. I add the rest of the meal on top of the rice

Nyahahaha..guess we filipinos have only one way of preparing it. I tried imagining what you did with your rice their in Kuwait but I think that’s weird, it’s already like a cook rice with the adobo sauce, or a fried rice that’s made differently. But I should taste it first I guess before saying anything eh? Does it taste good? I love fancy rice, it smells good, and it’s sticky and very yummy. But it’s really really expensive now. Rice here in the country is already very expensive..have you heard of it already? Some poor Filipino families are buying green bananas and cook them as alternative to rice.

I usually make my rice by first frying onion and the rice in butter. Then I add the water and I add tomato bullion. Then I add about 2 table spoons of salsa. I will then let it sit for a while to cook. When it's cooked I will simmer it for about another 1/2 hour. The flavor is amazing. My three kids gobble it all up.

Hi iyah!Basically white rice. How many years you've been staying there(Kuwait)?Looks like you have learned cooking rice the MidEast way.I'm still having hard time cooking it.Plus the problem that nobody will eat it since i refrain from eating rice and my kids like white/plain rice.We get to taste the yellow rice (think that's how you prepare it) if we buy the grilled chicken.BTW i am here in KSA.Keep posting!

My mother uses a pressure cooker to cook rice but my wife uses a microwave. Add rice and two-thirds water and cook it in the microwave for about 10 minutes and you have nice puffy rice ready. If we are making flavored rice we half cook the rice in the oven, mix it with the herbs and the meat and cook it in the cooking bowl.

The only kind of rice that I cooked is the Jasmine rice because I love the texture and its smell. I usually just have plain rice but sometimes, I make yellow rice or cajun style. My husband loves what he calls Salsa rice. It is just plain rice still hot, mix it with chunky salsa and shredded cheese. It taste so good.

We have many ways to prepare rice, you can make many dishes with rice like fried rice, pulihora, biriyani. If you are interested please let me know so that I can provide you with the recipes. We normally cook rice in plain water and eat the rice along with a curry but atleast weekly twice we will cook rice in a special way.

i think every society has different ways of cooking. just has u said dat in ur place u only boil rice while in ur new environment it is different. i think d best way is to perboil it first then put what ever u want to put either u make it fried or otherwise. or wilth stew.

i sometimes like to partly boil it so still firm and then fry in oil and add mixture of egg yolk and soy sauce.. also nice if add vegetables to it, maybe chopped mushrooms, little meat peas etc then fry up.. Makes rice a little less boring
