Does your child prefer Pokemon or Yugioh?

My son is eleven and in the fifth grade. When school started back up all the boys were bringing in their Pokemon cards, so now my son is back collecting them.
He started off liking Pokemon years ago and then moved onto Yugioh! but then that interest waned so we gave all those cards away on craigslist.
I thought fifth grade would be too old for Pokemon, but I guess I am wrong. I wanted him to expand his interests as he goes to middle school next year.
Which does your child prefer and what age are they?

My son used to enjoy and play both. He even entered some local tournaments. However, he seems to have lost interest in both games.

I don't understand your response, what exactly do you mean?

My son loves both, but that's mainly because they are the hottest cartoons characters in Japan. He went to preschool with Japanese children so he was exposed to it everyday for 3 years. He still loves both and he's 5.

I know what you are going through, the fads are really hard to keep up with. I have three kids and I may have a solution for you. If you make your kids spend their own money on the "fad" items, they tend to think longer about the purchase. We have limited fad items for our kids like this. They have to use their own allowance to buy the stuff, but half of their allowance has to go in their savings account. Also, if the stuff is left laying around, they lose the priveledge of buying for that week, and the whole allowance has to go into the bank. Keeps them picking up their stuff, and sometimes they want something else, and don't buy the fad items. Especially if their pet needs something that week.

My oldest enjoyed pokemon. But he is 15 yrs old now. He has no desire to have anything to do with them. My 8 yr old loves Yugioh and always has......he has to have everything of it. He loves to battle with the cards. He even gets his older brother to play with him.
