Ummmm... I still haven't tried downloading using torrent.. Honestly, I still don't know how to use it.. Hehe.. I still need more info 'bout torrent..
On the other hand, I've been using limewire for my downloads.. It's very easy to use.. It's free, and no hasles in intalling...
As others say that limewire is prone to viruses, but nonetheless, two thumbs up.
Well, for me, torrent also deserves, one..

Limewire is the fastest file sharing program on the planet. Here is just a few of the features BitTorrent Support Built-In , Fast Downloads, No Spyware or Adware, Works behind Firewalls, Runs on Windows, Mac & Linux.
Be sure your virus software is always up to date when using limewire or any program connected with the internet. Files you download could be mislabeled, hiding a virus or other unwanted content. Use anti-virus software to protect your computer from viruses you might pick up from other users through the file-sharing program. Although your virus filter should prevent your computer from receiving possibly destructive files. Norton experts suggest you avoid files with extensions like .exe, .scr, .lnk, .bat, .vbs, .dll, .bin, and .cmd. as often these files will and can destory your system.
I like to use limewire but I always check the downloads with my antivirus program and I am not a frequent user of the program so I guess I have been lucky as some I have talked with told me some pretty bad stories that happened to them.
Just be careful.

Torrents are easy to use. You just use a torrent client, like utorrent, to run the torrent files. Nothing more.
Also, Limewire is less safe and harder to find files on. Sure, it's great if you want to download a single song, but you could do so much more with a torrent. By the way, when it comes to legal downloads, there's a lot more available through torrents: OpenOffice.org and various Linux distributions (often upwards of 3GB) among other things.

Hey! I feel Limewire is lot easier than downloading from torrents anyways..
First you have to install a torrent client like bitorrent, Azerues, uttorent.. there are many.. i prefer utorrent... Then you have to search in any torrent website like mininova.org... or you can search from the client itself... for the file you want to download...
There will be many links... You have to select the link with more no of seeds and less on of peers..
Seeds are people who have the complete file and are sharing.. and peers are people who are downloading the file...
Then the download the torrent file... Open this torrent file in the torrent file and start downloading...

and u also have to open ports on your router to have more remote connections.
I use private trackers like torrentleech.org and revolutiontt.org
Private trackers are the best, tjey have rules there.u have to seed what you've downloaden, otherwise they ban you.thats why the speed on private trackers are faster than speeds on public trackers.publick trackers are free for all,you can hit and run.
YOu can get your file and dont wry to seed back, and that makes it slow for others.

Torrent is the best,if u want movies,softwares,and music,use torrent
With torrents you can get single music tracks and albums.
If u download movies and software from private torrent sires,u'll never get virus in the softwares and u dont get fake movies.

I'm using both, these are two different type of source. For limewire you have got the complete data from one source, if your source is down then you have no choice but to wait for it to get back on line. In Torrent the data is divided into multiple parts and distributed multiple copies to multiple source if one is down you could still have the chance to complete the download. For download time limewire far beats torrents but for reliability torrent has the edge.

I go with a torrent. It's neater, more organized, more efficient. Either that, or I get my music from blogs and music rotation sites. Limewire has always given me spyware problems anyway.

TORRENT for me
i have never downloaded anything from limewire,,but i use DC++ sometimes.
downloading with torrents is very easy
and in limewire i guess the speed depends on two users.
the one who is downloading and the one who is giving.
but in torrent it more liking sharing.
speed depends on how many people are seeding means sharing.
and for famous things like some movies, some softwares,,speeds are awesome on torrents.
bey peace.

I use both before but I think Torrent is better... You can easily find full versions of the ones that you are looking for... but when it comes to faster downloading... I'll go for limewire, in Torrent sometimes it does not continue downloading just because seeders are not available...

Well I'm on Limewire side. Limewire is a heavy site so fortunately you get a lots of hosts at specific time. Hands up for limewire and where it comes to viruses i never got a single viruse from it but there is a friend of mine who downloaded a virus through limewire which gives a lot of trouble and he decided not to use it again and is sticking to torrent. Now torrent is useless and gives a lots a virus and incomplete files or in simple words A BIG SEVER HEADACHE. I downloaded there games from it and they all come uncomplete so i got to strife to fix them and i fixed them then played and again started to downloading games from torrents keeping in mind that maybe i have to fix these too. So no hands up for torrent only for limewire. But people rely on toorent much and host more files on torrent than limewire. Thanks. Jesse.

While downloading through limewire, keep it in mind to check the file status through bitzi bitprint. Bitzi is kinda reviewing site which tell about materials inside and in case of virus they warn about it. Some of the files at limewire dont have bitprint in that case choice is yours. You have to take chances. But acc to my intelligence it depends on the category of files you download. Most viruses are zipped in zip files. So they are big risks. Some extentions you told also contains viruses. Well I've used bitzi only in case of movies coz of file type and quality of movie. Bitzi gives full brief details. Whereas at torrents its all depends on comments. I'm still sticking to limewire though even I am using torrents for game downloads. Thanks. Jesse.
