I don't really donate because Im a poor college student :) but Im volunteering for UNICEF which is United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund. I believe that since this organisation is doing so much for children, it deserves everyones full support!

In essence you are donating to a charity, you're donating your time and service! My hat's off to you for volunteering your time to such a worthy organization! Thanks for your post!

I donate tangible items to people at my mom's church, and to Goodwill. I give money to PETA, RAINN, the ASPCA, the local zoo, the many local museums (not really charities but it helps the good of the community), the World Wildlife Fund, Greenpeace, the Humaine Society, the American Diabetes Association, The MS Society, and I do the Aids Awareness walkathon. I also donate to women's rights and gay rights organizations.

Those are all very worthy causes to donate money and/or items to. It's my belief that the world would be a much better place if every person who was able to donated either time, money or items to a charity and/or worthy cause. Good for you!

I donate to a few but one of the main ones is the Royal Childrens Hospital in Melbourne Australia. They do such fantastic work with sick kids and I think they deserve the money.

I think that's great! We donate to the Childrens Hospital of the Kings Daughters which is local to us. They do great things for kids here and from everywhere around the country. No child is ever turned away for their parents inability to pay or a lack of insurance.

That's a great plan! I think it's important that we all try to volunteer or donate to a charity if possible. I think if more of us did this the world would be a much better place!

I'm sorry to hear that. While I won't deny that there is probably a small degree of dishonesty among some, select charities and foundations, there are many, many honest charities out there. It's too bad that the idea of dishonesty has turned you away from donating. I hope one day that you will change your mind. In the meantime perhaps you could try volunteering, that is just as important as donations and no one can steal your time.

Salvation Army - Salvation Army
I donate to my local church and Salvation Army every chance I can. Why Salvation Army.....because they were there for my family with monetary help with no questions asked to help us make it through one crucial month my husband was out of work... several years ago. They helped us and didn't expect us to pay them back or even suggest such a thing. I know that we've donated 100 times more to them than what they graciously gave us in our time of need. Thank the Lord for them.

That's a wonderful story! I think it's great when people are able and willing to give back to an organization that has helped them out. We've done the same thing with a hospital here called Childrens Hospital of the Kings Daughters. Two of my sons have been patients at this hospital on numerous occasions. We donte to the hospital and their thrift stores regularly. My husband and I are currently organizing a gift drive for the children at the hospital and it gives me the greatest joy to be able to do so. I wish you and your family all the best!

I will only donate to The Salvation Army. As far as I'm concerned, they're the only legit organization I know of. I've heard/seen so many horror stories about the Red Cross, United Way, and a couple others-forget off hand. If they're a charitable organizaiton, then why are the president/ceo's of those organizations driving around in bmw's and lexuses? Why do they have such high salaries? Why isn't a majority of the money donated going to the charities? People should really check into some of those organizations before donating IMO.

I agree it's always best to check out any organization before donating. There are always those who will scam and take advantage of generous, caring people and those in need. Kudos to you for donating to The Salvation Army. It's a great organization that helps so many people!
