Home birth or hospital birth?

Which do you think is better? If you already have kids, which did you choose? Why? Looking back would you still make that same desicion? I don't have a problem with either, but I choose a hospital birth for both of mine. I like knowing that in case an emergeancy should arise (which it did w/ my 2nd), I would have modern techonolgy availably to help my baby. I would definately make the same desision then & if I have anymore in the future.

I love the idea of a home birth, but I had some complications in my pregnancy so I pretty much had to have a hospital one. Having a home birth would definitely be more relaxing, being in your own surroundings without being hooked up to IV's and being bossed around by doctors and nurses. But like you said hospital births are more reassuring in the way that if something went wrong there would be people around to help you and your child.

I had a healthy pregnancy with my son & pretty healthy (just a lot of morning sickness) with my daughter. But the last time I went to see a Dr with my daughter I was in premature labor, she was in distress & went into surgery after being born, so it was a surprise & I was so grateful to have the dr's there :)

Hospital birth for sure. It's much cleaner, and you know that you're in safe hands.

in labour - this is me and my partner lucas about to go into the operating suite for my emergancy c-section. this is why i would definately choose hospital birth
i would definately choose a hospital birth, in a big hospital that can cater for prems. while pregnant with my second son i was given a 60% chance of going early when i went for my first antinatal visit. Now, after the premeture labour of Kody i have been given a 90% chance of going into prem labour with anymore children.

Just having all those doctors there with years of experience can be so reasurring. Especially when it comes to preemies. Best of luck to you in any future pregnancies.

hospital they got doctors that can take care if anythng happens during labour. i think it's kinda dangerous to have birth at home.

Thank you for not only responding, but also elaborating on why you choose the response you choose. Childbirth is dangerous (even in this day & age). But with the quipment available in a hospital it is actually possible to see complications arise before any physical signs present themselves (in which some cases there isn't enough time to intervine).

i think a hospital birth is better because what if there is a problem what would you do then.

Thank you for responding and giving a reason. As I've meantioned some problems do not manifest physical signs until it is so close to the birthing time. Monitors can show if a baby is in distress. If a baby is breech & a c-section is needed, a simple ultraasound can determine that. There are so many things.

hospital birth would be more appropraite.......medical attention will be available when needed

Thank you for responding. Even if special medical attention isn't needed it is available & everyone wants what's best for their baby. So it is great to have that "safty net" (so to speak) of trained medical personnel ready & standing by in case they are needed. But hopefully you (nor anyone else on this board) will have to go through such an experience.

Hospital birth is much better than home birth... as we have help available through modern technologies, which is absent during home birth...

I very agree very much. Although women have been given birth without hospital assistance since the dawn of time. In a hospital there is a lot of people who know what they're doing in case the baby, the mother, both are in danger of losing their life. Thank you for your response.

yeah.. hospital birth is better for sure... these days there are many more complications than before. So its always better to get things checked up regularly. also i know that a lot of kids and children are being born giving more trouble than earlier times...

Thanx for responding. And yes, if you can take precautions when it concerns your baby, why not take it?

I agree with you that hospital births are the better choice. But again that is my opinion & I have already mentioned why I feel that way. Is there any reason(s) that make you feel this way? Any personal experiences you would like to mention? Or is it more a comfort thing?

i gave birth to my son in a hospital. well he was our first child and i dont wanna take any chances, plus the fact that im asthmatic, i can get that attack anytime.... so my doctor suggested for me to give birth at the hospitam and since she was my O.B. she rest assured that she's going to take care of me and my baby come what may.... and gladly, i gave birth to a healthy baby boy.. thanks

I never really had a choice, as all of my pregnancies were high risk and required hospital care. In an ideal world, however, the idea of a homebirth is appealling to me. To birth your child in the comforts of your own home, without the impersonal feel of the hospital, sounds wonderful. But i do empathize with anyone would fears the 'what ifs' and finds comfort in being in an atmosphere where emergencies can be dealt with quickly. I don't find either choice good/bad, its all very subjective based on experiences, feelings and concerns.

I had both of my kids in a hospital. I couldn't even think about having them at home.

I would only use a hospital birth. I can not imagine giving birth at home. I would be afraid that something would be wrong, and that I would not have medical staff available. I have heard about some home births though, and commend woman for being able to do that.

I think hospital birth is the better choice. With a home birth, there is no back-up care if something goes wrong. In a hospital, there are so many options is a problem occurs. While we can't require hospital birthing for all expectant mothers, I think that doctors should STRONGLY suggest being admitted to the local hospital at the first sign of labor.

I don't have a baby yet, but I think hospital birth is the first choice. Because of their advanced equipment, and lots of experienced doctors. This will make sure the mother and baby are safe.

I had all three of my kids in a hospital but at the time I didnt even know that you could have kids at home. If I would have known I probably would have tried having them at home. I think home births are a great idea.

For me it really better to be in the hospital when giving birth, its for your own good, we should always think ahead that what if something might happen, you know some emergency. It's better to be well prepared and assured.
