I posted a discussion adn photo of a heart shaped tomato I picked from my yard. Comes to find out it is a variety called, "Patio Tomato". These tomatoes are popular for use in containers, hanging baskets and garden or patio locations where space is limited. Because more people now live where traditional vegetable gardening is not possible, container and patio gardens have become more popular. Their ornamental value is an added benefit and their fruit quality has recently been improved as well. According to the tag I have with it in my garden it is Patio Hybrid harvest, 65 days; 3 ounces; strong dwarf plants, relatively large fruit. But I planted this is my garden and they are doin very well as this photo shows. Have you grown a patio/container plant in your garden and it thrived very well? What type was it?

Hi Grandpa Bob, I am in fact growing the Patio Tomato myself at the moment in a large tub and it has many fruits on it all very green at the moment but hopefully it won't be long now before they ripen. My daughter can't wait as she eats tomatoes like apples. Ellie :D

The Patio tomato has been around for many years because it is mopre compact then regular tomatoes and is very easy to grow in containers. It also produces very good tasting tomatoes. They have just the right amount of sweet and tart. I like them better then the big beef steak tomatoes that have a blander flavor.

Hi Grandpa B,
Ohh...that is also how my in-laws planted their tomatoes and it looks great!
I have not tried planting in a container but that is in my mind after also watching on Tv about it!

I don't have a garden of tomatoes, but i surely love
eating raw tomatoes together with onions and spices.
I used to have these while eating paired with grilled
fish.

Yes I have grown some vegies in containers. I have grown brocolli, green peppers, tomatoes, amoung other things. Lots of people use containers, things grow good in them. The one thing you have to watch for is the watering. The soil tends to dry out quicker.

I have a wagon full of bell peppers and two egg plants. I find when doing pot gardens or planter gardens you have to firtlelizer them once a week. I use organic fish emolshion

Hi GRANDPA BOB! That looks so great tasting. I think that they look like the tomatoes that we had before in our garden. They have thick skin and I like that in my tomatoes. However, nowadays I am just buying my tomatoes in the local grocer. Our garden is not in top shape now because of the rainy season although, we do have still our eggplants and chili peppers, lemon in the garden.
Take care always..God Bless!

I've never tried container gardening but may do a little of it next year just to try it. You certainly have a green thumb!
