Dear frieds, how many of you are found of eggs and specially omelettes? Do you feel it is a non-vegetarian food item of vegetarian food item? How many time in a week do you prefer omelettes? How do you make it, do you any special recipe for it, which could be shared here. I make very good omelettes, whenever I feel like, I just add a little bit of milk, while beating the eggs and the omelette comes out very fluffy and soft. I once read that if olive oil is used to make omelettes, it tastes superb and great. It is always a great delight to put the omelettes in two pieces of bread slices and bite it softly. Please share your choice of omelettes with me.

Hello my friend. Yes I do like omelets:)
I think it can a vegetarian and non vegetarian choice.
In my home we all have different tastes for our omeletes. Hubby and son like them with cubbed red and green peppers and little pieces of portuguse chourico. Me and daughter love it with cheese and green olives. I don't like it with bread. Hubby and daughter do.
We sometimes have an omelet every week, sometimes it's months since we have one.

I just love eggs and omelletes, like you. I have not tried shahi tukre with eggs. We just dip the bread in egg yolk and white and fry it.......I think making it like French toasts. I forgot to mention in my discussion that with little bit of onions, diced chillies, its taste becomes quite tempting.
I think it is our dear Bhabhiji, who takes care of your sumptuous breakfast.
Many thanks for joining.

Dpk,
It is non vegetarian in my view. I'd eat it sometimes the way you have described. It's only once a week. At times I like it a little spicy ,maybe add some diced green chillies and a little bit of onion. It goes very well with some ketchup and toast.
Since you make good omelettes, I'm coming over , tell me when.

Hi Deepak,
How can I leave out a food discussion?
I love my omelettes and I consider it absolutely non-veg food. I make it all types.
The plain and simple one with only green chillies and onion to make it hot.
The fluffy one with tomatoes and cheese spread and milk and then add some butter on top to make it super soft (but eat it hot, straight off the gas)
Or I make two omelettes with stuffing inside like cheese slices, tomatoes, cabbage, chicken, mashed potato (whatever is there in the fridge). This one is quite heavy, I must add.
And of course there is the omelette curry to go with our rice. Just make a spicy curry with chunky potatoes and gravy and dunk the omelettes in them, let it stand for some minutes and relish with rice. (I cook this on nights when I am too tired for elaborate dinner or when, like a typical middle-class family, I am out of enough cash at the end of the month.)
Some of the roadside foodstalls of India make the most amazing omelettes I have ever tasted. Have you had any from these shops?

Oh yes Deepak, cheese tastes yummy and all gooey and great. Put one beaten egg on the pan, don’t spread it out too thin, it should be a bit thick in the middle. Don’t flip it i.e. don’t fry both sides. After one side is a bit fried, take it out on a plate. Put the other beaten egg (same here, a bit thick in the middle) and add the stuffings on the middle. It could be anything, chopped capsicum, chopped corn, carrots whatever, then cover it with a cheese slice (I use the standard Amul ones, you can add some grated cheese too or you can leave out the cheese) and on top of that, gently put the other fried omelet, raw side down. The two omelets with their raw sides should stick together with the stuffing in between. Reduce the gas and gently let it simmer for a few minutes so that the cheese melts inside. Its yummy, very filling and if you have shredded and boiled the veggies before, then its quite a fast snack too.
Thnx for the BR and subha subha omelet ki baat makes me really hungry

Sudipta! It is winter season here in Delhi and I just love to have omelettes in this seasons. Many thanks for explaining in details the stuffed Omelette receipe to me. Though, it appears to me that the 'dish' will take some extra time to get ready, but it will be real fun and enjoyment to have it in our mouth. I'll definitely try it as soon as possible and will let you know the results of my experiments. (I'll take a print out of your receipe to keep it handy). If your are feeling hungry after reading 'omeletta' discussion, just order for it from your canteen or an eating outlet, nahi to evening may ja kar bana lena..........LOL!
dpk
P.S. - How are you? How's life?

I did not hear about the stuffed omelettes, till I read your reply (unfortunately could not see it earlier). How do you actually make it, put one beaten egg on the fry pan.......then add some stuffing and then put another beaten egg on the top of it? Is it like that?
Also, I have rarely tried cheese, while making omelettes, does it add the taste?

Hi, I don't know if omelettes are vegetarian or not. However, I love to eat them. in fact, I love anything to do with fried eggs!
For omelettes, I'd usually fry dried shrimps, bacon bits, sliced sausages/salami and chopped mushrooms plus a bit of chopped garlic; then add in the eggs! Mmmmm...maybe I should cook this tonight!

I just love eggs and omelletes. OH! I think adding dried shrimps, bacon etc. must be giving you some extra ordinary taste in your omelletes. We donot put garlic in our omelettes.
Many thanks for joining with new ideas of omelettes.

Since I'm a non-vegetarian...I do not bother to classify the food.
I like omlettes too...and I make it using different ingredients.
Sometimes, I use chopped capsicum, tomatoes, shredded chicken and make an omlette.
I might also use grated cheese as a topping for this.
My older son and husband like this one....and so do I.
My younger one likes plain omlette with salt and made in the microwave without any oil.

I use Amul's mozarella...but I don't keep it in the fridge for too long.
I try to finish it off as soon as possible.
lol...you know Sudipta..I am a mother who practices what she preaches and I am particular and believe that habits are formed at a young age. My older one also had healthy food since he was a baby...he would even eat karela...because he was used to eating it since the age of 1.
I usually make 'healthy' junk food too...like burgers at home...and my older one says I make the best 'home-made junk food'...lol!

I hear so much about grated cheese Sandhya, just what brand do you use? I used to have Amul, but it hardened if kept in the fridge for too long (a month max). I am now using Amul Cheesespread and Cheese Slices as I find them convenient. But so many recipes requires grated cheese on them…
your younger one seems to be going the healthy way from this age itself

Ha ha ha deepak, I think aaj tumhe bhoot bhook lag rahi hai.....you seem to be very hungry and you are making all omelet lovers also hungry........
I think half of the world likes to eat eggs in the breakfast, and eggs are my favourite too. I like eggs in any form, but omelets are really very tasty as we can add things like , onions, tomatoes, green chillies garlic , green coriander which I love very much etc into omelet and make a very tasty one. Yes making omelet in olive oil is tasty as well as healthy. About recipe, you can find millions of recipes for omelets on Internet.......As Anil kapoor says "sab ko pata hai yaar".....even Aamir khan is eating eggs in every movie........nice tasty discussion deepak

Please guide me and enlighten me, it is good to prepare omellete in olive oil, because olive oil is quite expensive here so I have never tried it.
I know net will have lots of recipies, I wanted to hear practical experiences of my friends on this special dish called omellete.
Many thanks for joining and making the discussion YUMMY..........LOL!

I don't have omlettes very often but when I do I like to add ham and cheese and onion and tomatoes and anything that I have left over in the fridge really. I would imagine olive oil would make it taste extra good too. I will usually serve mine with a few chips and some salad. Ellie :D

anyway, i sliced the potato very thin and fried them (kinda like angel string cut) i used olive oil to make the taste much better and then add my omelette mixture when the potatoes are done, sometimes i add some cheese on it and it taste yummy LOL
maybe it is just my taste as we all know we all have different taste buds. yay!

Hi my friend,
I love omelletes!!!
But I know it's now good for my cholesterol level!
I always take 3 eggs and add a little milk like you do. Pour it in the skillet and add ham and cheese. Yummmm! That's making me hungry!!
I would think that it would a vegetarian food but then I'm not a vegetarian so I may be wrong, but if you don't put any meat in it????

Hey, I love omelettes and i think they are extremely healthy for you because the average egg has about 7g of protein in it. if you have a 3 egg omelette thats 21g of protein and very little carbs. I guess it could be a vegetarian food but i dont care what it is i love them!lol

I have heard that omlettes should have milk but I have never tried it ,I think I will one of these days. For me a good omlette is made by beating the eggs until frothy and then adding a few slices of onions ,a few slices of pepper and most importantly sliced sausages of franks and then cooking until brown.Great care should be taken not to break the omlettes.Omlettes should be served as one hwole not in pieces unless you slice it and with two slices of bread

I am very fond of eggs and I think I can have them anyway. Boiled, omlettes, etc. But I do not make omlettes. I like it when it is made for me. I am very lazy in the mornings and like my breakfast served at the table. Then the rest of the days meals I am ready to make. Have not tried using olive oil for omlettes. I think the french toast also is good.

Omelettes are a good nutricious meal, and there are so many bits and pieces of left over food that can be used up in one.We are going to have one for tea tonight,I have some smoked bacon left to use,and a couple of onions and some cheese and tomato,so when all of that is put together it will be a delicious supper dish, with some bread and butter..

I love eggs and also omelettes. My dad makes some and sometimes even I make some for myself and I like their taste. They go good with bread and rice. And thanks for the tip of milk and olive oil. I'll try that sometimes and see how my omelettes turn out to be. Eggs are a good source of many vitamins and proteins needed by human body..

Hi there friend. Well i do like omelets but i don't make them very often though - usually i am a bit lazy and i only make boiled eggs. I do believe that in most cases they can be viewed as a vegetarian food, although i have found eggs that were... how can i say this, already impregnated and had a small red thing in it (that being a baby embryo chicken probably) so that can't really qualify anymore for vegetarian food. I don't have a special recipe but sometimes i add a little extras to it to make it taste better.
