Do you buy books?

Do you buy books or do you simply go to the library and check them out? I have a hard time making myself buy books. When I was in elementary school and they always handed out the little flyers with books you could buy, my dad would respond with "You don't need to buy books, you can use the library." I guess that theory has stuck with all these years (I won't say how many). I felt very excited when I was allowed to buy a book though. I love to go to antique stores and look for old books. I will sometimes buy them, but very seldom buy a book just to read. I use the library! How about you?

I used to get the same thing from my dad too - go to the library for the book you want. but after i started earning my own money, then i could buy whichever books I wanted. I buy a lot of christian resource books cos they are seldom found in the library and make for good reading and passing on.
I also have started renting books from book rental shops. that's cos they have the latest titles in good condition at a fraction of the price i can get in bookshops. and they can be easily found instead of in the library where sometimes there is a long waiting period.

We don't have book rental shops here. That is an interesting concept. I like to read Christian books too. Best wishes!

Hi friends,I love to read books a lot. I have subscribed to two libraries. Still, this don't fulfill my appetite for reading books. I buy almost two books per month.
Obviously,I don't buy them by seeing their covers. First, I check out the reviews about best sellers on net, if I find something very interesting and can't find in library, I can't just wait and buy this book. Sometimes if I really find some book very interesting, I buy it to enrich my collection, even if this already is in library.

WOW, I am very impressed! Its good that you read the reviews though. Then at least if it doesn't have a good review, you won't waste your money buying it and then finding out that it isn't any good. Best wishes!

Yes, I do and more than I should. I buy about a book every two weeks. I also love used bookstores and going to the library. I'm a big reader. I've recently gotten into audio books which I play on my computer when I type. It's more stimulating than the T.V. for inspiration although I tend to get distracted by the book especially if I like the story.

You can get them in the library or most bookstores. I like the unabridged versions myself, so I don't miss any of the story. I've always liked having stories read to me, ever since I was a kid. So that experience is a bonus!

Where do you get audio books? I've never heard of them. Sounds like something worth looking into. I still like just sitting down and reading though. Theres something soothing about it! Best wishes!

yes in fact i just bought my very first purchase online and it was a book about numerology. i do buy books and also magazines especially when i find them interesting. or if they are simply just on sale, like celeb mags and teen mags but that was when i was a teenager, now i dont find those kinda mags interesting anymore. we dont have much public libraries here in our country with the exception of school's libraries so everyone pretty much has to buy a book if they really want it to read it over and over again.

I just can't imagine not having a public library available to get books from. If I didn't have a library, I wouldn't be able to go out and buy books because of budget. Its nice that you are able to buy the books that you want. Maybe you should trade books with friends.

Unfortunately, we don't have libraries here that stock up on fictional books, especially the newer ones. What's in our libs are mostly outdated encyclopedias, dictionaries, research books and other usually school-specific periodicals. So, yes, we usually buy books when we want to read some novels and such.

Oh, how sad. Libraries should be full of novels, fiction, mystery's, and other fun things to read, not just research books. I wonder what people read if they can't afford to buy books? You are lucky you are able to buy them.

Now that I think about it, we have shops here where we can rent books. When I was still in school, these places are such big hits coz novels and other "fun stuffs" to read are a bit expensive. To guage how expensive for locals -- books by danielle steele, dan brown, sidney sheldon and other similar ones costs a bit more than the minimum wage imposed by the government.. The price I think is just actually similar in US when converted to USD, but since the standard of living here is lower, we find it more expensive..

For me, it really depends. If i want a book that i will read over and over again, i buy it. If i want a book that i will read for only one time, i'll try and borrow it from the library

I guess once I read a book, I want to move on to something else. Although when I was a child, I do remember reading books over and over again.

When I was younger, I wasn't interested with books as I am today. But since the day I got held by a single book, books became treasures and I started buying books though some of them were from booksales and book for less booths. MV Doulos also played a lot of in my cash as I bought lots of books with them.

Books are definitely treasures! You never know when you open the cover what you will find! It is indeed something to look forward to.

In the past, I have tended to buy books, and only use the library occasionally. However, when I return to Australia next month after two years in China, my aim is to save as much money as I can for my next overseas trip, so instead of buying books, I plan to use the library far more often.

Reading is relaxing. I always read before I go to bed at night. Its just a routine that I've established over the years and I feel lost if I don't get to read at night. Best wishes!

You just have to download an ebook reader which is also free then you can download ebooks from the net. What your friend has are audio books. You can try downloading mobipocket reader or the like and from there you can convert files to readable form. I have the books I want in my phone so I can read anytime.Happy reading!!!

I saw the movie the DaVinci Code, but don't think I've read the book yet. I always hate reading the book after I have seen the movie, since they usually are not completely alike. Thanks for your comment.

I do love reading very very much!Though it is a regret that I did not read much when I was young,I do become very keen on reading when at college.Since in the college library, there are so many variety of books for your selection, and I found myself so fascinated by the English novels that I spare most of my spare time in reading them.So I like borrow books from libraries,it is really a good place for people who love reading. But there may be disadvantage too, such as sometimes, you will wait for a long time for a book you like because it is very popular and not available. Also maybe the book you really want can not be found in the library. In such condition,I will go to the big bookstore in our place, and there I can find the one I want and read for many hours. Then if I found it is really nice I will not hesitate to buy it for keep if the price is within my reach.
Now that I have got a job and am able to earn money for myself,I have keep on buying books regularly. In general I will buy a few books per month.I believe it is truly worthwhile to buy them although I don't earn much, because the valuable books are really treasure to me.Even if it means I will make a sacrifice for not buying other things I like. And now I have made a collection of sevel hundreds of English novels,of which I'm very proud! I can always read and reread them if it is a really excellent one as Pride and Prejudice,I've read at least 5 times of different editions. And I found that I will always find valuable things each time I read it.So that's just the fun of reading. An exciting world will be open to you every time you begin to read a book.So I feel very happy to meet a friend who also loves it,and let's keep on reading!

I do both. the reason I'm not doing the library thingie is that I owe them. Plus I have to remember to take them back and what not, and with my schedule and no personal transportation, that can be a drag. however, I do both and it has been a joy to read a book I enjoy. I still get excited getting books that I want anticipate in the mail. Once a year, I buy a bunch from Amazon.com; plan to buy some more soon.

I always buy my books. I don't have too much time to go to the local library and besides they don't have the books that I like to read. I'm a member of an online book club and I order my books with them or sometimes I buy them from walmart.
I've also enrolled my daughter in a children's online book club and I get the books from them.

I always made sure my children had books too. That was quite a few years ago and didn't have the option of buying books online. I bought them lots of books not only at the store but through book clubs as well. I can't bear to throw any of them away and have given some to the local library.

Our local library is always adding new books, so I feel fortunate that they keep up with all that is being published. I'm sorry that you have a hard time getting yourself to read a book. Maybe you should try a differnt type of book than what you have read before. Maybe you would find something you might like.

I can't believe all the people that say that they don't have a library available for them to get books from. I guess I just take our library for granted. I should probably think that over. Keep borrowing and buying so you can keep reading!
