Better start the packing

In six weeks time I and the memsahib shall be departing the shores of Blighty and mounting an expedition to the former colonies. Singapore to be exact. I have started to think about the packing. I have asked my valet, Creaky, to find out what the well dressed English visitor is wearing this year. Creaky has been a faithful family retainer since my Grandfather was a girl and he came to me after the great tea tray disaster of 1973. My Father's wound has healed now, but he can't move without his truss! Creaky's age is unknown but I understand that Her Majesty refuses to send him telegrams as she doesn't have any for men of his vintage. Anyway, I asked him to prepare a suitable packing list for me. His list is as follows: . Underwear - thermal summer quality . Corsets x 2 . Safari trousers, wool, x 3 . Safari Jacket, Wool mix . Socks, Lyle, x 7 . Shirts, White x 7 . Collars, x 4 . Ties x 3 . Safari Shorts x 2 . Long wool socks x 2 . Shoes, Black x 2 pairs . Shoes, Canvas, x 2 pairs . Dinner suit . Dress shirt X 2 . Dress shirt collars x 2 . Cummerbund x 1 . Patent shoes x 1 pair . Bow tie Black x 1 . Bow tie White x 1 . Pith helmet x 1 . Pyjamas x 3 . Bathing costumes Wool x 2 . Toiletries as necessary In addition there will be medicines, mosquito repellent etc. Do I have enough? What would you take? Ideas about what I should recommend to my wife by way of packing essentials would be much appreciated.

Well you should probley should lose the corset and the wool. And bring to clothes like tshirts,summer light pants,shorts,under clothes,money,a cellphone,a map possibly. A first aid kit. One of them suitcases the roll on wheels. Some suncreen and sunglasses. A ice cooler and snacks to bring along the way.

Creaky is too creaking old to understand Singapore weather. Dump the woolies and corsets (HORRORS) and go for light linens and straw boaters. As for the wife. The less the better and the more popular she'll be! And leave Creaky at home! Crikey, he's a menace! Time to retire the old blighter. No wonder your Grandfather thought he was a girl! LOL

Retire him to the spare room then, but don't take any more of his advice on packing! LOL And it's obvious that Grandpa Ernestina had identity issues. I'm rather surprised that you're relatively normal! LOL Though it does explain the bras and dresses! ROFL

Right you are Sparky. Thank you for the advice. I shall have to keep Creaky though. He's a national treasure! Grandpa Ernestina was one funny old girl that's for sure.

wowww... that will be exciting... i think your valet had given you quite a good list and i don't think you miss anything... it is lots already and if you add more, you might have trouble with the weight of the baggage... also, it will be unnecessary and a waste of your energy to bring things that you won't need... enjoy your expedition in singapore... take care and have a nice day...

Well if your going to take a camera then don't forget extra film or if digital extra batteries. Just in case things would cost more..

No suggestions here at all other than to pack me in the hand luggage, I can curl up small as too cold in the cargo hold and I'm coming too. The first ever Singapore F1 nightrace, oh I am just so jealous and only 6 weeks away, that has come round fast eh! Don't forgot binoculars and camera, other than that anything forgotten buy there and have fun. Ellie :D

Ok so your Grandfather used to be a girl before his surgery ? I am answering this from email. Alot of wool on that list, won't that be kinda hot on this trip of yours? I believe Creaky is getting a mite forgetful...that will be mighty itchy wearing all that wool..he must wanna see you suffer. Well, I would recommend tossing the wool items off that list unless your partial to wool and maybe find something as durable if needed. How about a spandex speedo..now that would be interesting..lol Corsets? umm, you trying ot hide some girth or get a girly figure?..You gonna take your famous conical bra?..Don't forget the sunscreen and make it a high Spf like a 45 We wouldn't want you to burn anything.

Now spandex speedos sound very interesting. I must see if I can buy some! So wool might not be such a good idea either. Corsets are to hide my girth! LOL. I have rechargeable batteries for my camera so must remember to take a spare set. Phew. Thanks for that help Becky.

I hope that you will have a wonderful time in Singapore. I have been there three times and think that it is an amazing destination. You are thinking back to times gone past and the colonies, how fascinating. I know a museum that is about the common wealth and empires. It might be interesting for you to see the historical hotel of Raffles. You have the perfect packing list I think. Your wife want to take old style summer dresses. It usually has hot weather but the sky can be overcast sometimes.

I'm glad you said that my wife should take the dresses. They're a little on the small side for me!! We are really looking forward to it. My BIL and his wife live there and love the place. He told me last week that they've not eaten dinner in once since Christmas because it is so much cheaper to eat out! Eating is one of my favourite activities!! I am told that Raffles is not what it was, but I want to go anyway. Thank Maximax.

Dear plkeflsh, Thank you for the discussion about packing. It is always a great anxiety to start packing whereever we go. Packing includes a responsible job also. Firstly, we have to see that the most necessary items like tooth-paste, brush, comb, soap etc., are packed or not. Then we come to the second part of packing i.e., our dress. Likewise we should always see that other essential things are to be packed.

I do so agree Navtech. So much to pack and such little time to do it in!

hi pikey wool bathing suits, I thought wool bathing suits went out when my parents were kids. wow.I think Creakys list is a little ancient. Collars? whats eith that. corsets. what on e arth would a guy be doing wearing a corset? madonna maybe but not a guy.Oh I think you would have enough but some things sound really weird, but again maybe Creaky is a bit weird too.Pikey no offense but why not let your wife make you a list,she knows you and I am sure knows a bit a bout singapore too. that list sounds like something someone might have written in 1900, not 2008, wow.
@p1kef1sh (45681)

This is pretty much the luggage that I carry with me every time that I go on a trip Hatley. Don't all gentlemen wear corsets these days? Actually he left off my spats as well!! I may have to retire him. His son, Croaky, might fit the bill instead! LOL. My wife will supervise the packing and it will all go into one case in reality.

Give a subtle hint and she might be able to interpret it correctly. What about caps? Mosquito repellent is a must here. It's good, you appreciate what your better half was doing.
@p1kef1sh (45681)

Mosquito repellant is a good idea. Thank you for that and your kind comments.
