for all of you who were worried that I would not go for my mammography, I called yesterday and got the appointment for today, they had a cancellation and so I was able to get in right away. I wasn't mentally prepared for it lol I was worried it was going to hurt. But it didn't. Instead I showered and shampooed then went out in the heat and humidity. I had to walk and I was sweating and all wet when I got there. I was so embarrassed and worst still the technician was allergic to me because of my cats, she kept sneezing and had to wear a mask. This was one horrible day for me. It was hard walking there and back and I had to stop and sit down several times, then I just came home and went to bed. so to turn this into a discussion, have you ever had any embarrassing moments at a doctor's office or hospital?

yes. I was taking a physical exam which was required in the work that i was applying for. So to make the long story short when the doc told me to unzip my pants i just shouted "HELL NO" and didnt want to do it... well I didnt know it was part of the exam... It was hilarious and embarrassing.

Oh winterrose... don't even worry about it! I am not sure how it works there, but I had one yesterday.. The normal ones, and spot pressure of something, after the first set, I was nervous, so I was sweating also, then I had the painful ones... holy mackarel.. I thought my nip was gonna pop off and fly across the room! LOL Then I had to go to work all sweaty.. no biggie, just don't think about it! Next time you go, have them mark your file that the tech who did it is allergic to cats, and request someone else! Have a great day! Don't worry :)

That is great to hear! I am sorry I am just now getting to this but I am back up some in my inbox after having my nephew for over a month. He finally went home after my niece got out of the hospital. My mom said hers hurt so maybe they were done different. I am sorry though that you had to walk all the way there. We have medical taxi cabs here that pick you u and bring you home if you don't have a vehicle if you give them 24 hour notice. The medical card pays for it. I wish you had that so it wouldn't be so hard on you. I know you love Canada but have you considered moving to the states just to not have to worry about that sort of stuff and maybe get more help?

If your on disability most of them get a medical card that pays for everything. But it wouldn't feel like home and I wouldn't want you to fall ill. We certainly have some quacks her in the states. SO I guess you are better there. Just wish that you would get your benefits yearly or more. And that you had a car to be able to take you the places you need to go so you wouldn't have to suffer the pain that you do. We only want the best for our favorite writer. Well, takecare Winterose.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I do have an embarrassing moment. I walked out of the OB-GYN's office with my skirt tucked in the top of my pantyhose. I proceeded to walk about half a block down a busy downtown street until a very nice lady told me about it. I must have walked by a hundred people who didn't say a word.

My mammogram was scheduled for right after I got off work. Of course it was on a very warm day and I was sweating profusely. Thankfully they had those little wet wipes so you could wash off the deodorant. I was able to freshen up a tad.

I'm glad you went! It's important for us to do stuff like that. Worse than that is the PAP test, but what can you do? I just never knew a boob could get that flat...LMAO

They should understand the sweating, because you walked to the doctor's office. Now for teh technician being allergic to your cats, that's something you didn't know at the time. As a dog owner, your dog is all over you, their hair, scent, it's the same with a cat. Honestly, does it hurt to have it done, my mom hates having it done, but does it anyway. She ends up tender for a few days afterward. So I'm not looking for it when I get 40, because I'm bigger than she is. I haven't had any embarrassing moments at a doctor's office or hospital, I guess I'm lucky. It doesn't mean I never had a embarrassing moment somewhere else though.

it didn't hurt me, all women are different, it also depends upon how good the technician is as well. thanks for understanding

Your welcome. I'm glad that it didn't hurt, every woman I have spoken to about it, said it hurt, so you give me hope. I hope when my day comes, I will get a good technician.

I'm glad you went, but so sorry you had such a hard time! My mom hates going because they squish her boobs so hard and it hurts her. In fact every woman I know who has had one told me they hurt. But since you said they don't, maybe eventually when I have to have one, it won't be so bad.

Yes when I was in high school I had this mole on the side of my face that I felt really uncomfortable about and my mom made a appointment for me to go have it removed. I had my dad take me a week later to the office that it was going to be done. We were sitting in the waiting area and I started feeling really sick to my stomach but wanted to get the procedure done so I kept quiet about it. We must have been waiting almost a 1/2 hour and I really had to get sick. I said "Dad? I don't feel good I feel like I'm going to be sick" He just looked at me in a weird look and went top the desk to ask where the bathroom was and as he opened the door for me I got sick all over the brand new rug they had just put in by a few days. I felt aweful and started crying the receptionist was snapping at my dad about how the new rug just got put down and that he shouldn't have brought me in like I was ect. I had to reshedule the appointment but it was total humiliation for me I will never forget it.

Hi winterose, I'm so glad that you went and got it over with. It's good that you didn't have time to think about going. This way you didn't have time to get too nervous. I think that the tech's behavior was inappropriate. If she really has such serious allergies then she shouldn't be in that type of medical setting where she comes in close contact with patients. If she is going to make a patient feel uncomfortable then that is not the type of position for her. A mammogram is a difficult enough procedure for women to go through. They are usually nervous enough. I don't feel that they should be made extra uncomfortable by a technician who is fussing because they might be allergic to something on the patient. I don't think you are the one to have felt embarrassed. You did nothing wrong. she should have just simply put on a mask and not said anything to you. Quite frankly, I would have reported this incidence.

You got it done. And conquered a fear at the same time. That shows true strength. Where issues of health are concerned I try not to get embarrassed. I may be uncomfortable, but better than sick. Good for you. I hope others will follow in your footsteps.

yes but I don't like how other people are allergic to me, that is one of the reasons that I do not want to go to work anymore, too many people say they are allergic to cats and living in a house with cats these things happen.

Hi Winterose, I am sorry because I know you were embarrassed and very tired too but I couldn't help laughing at the fact that the technician was allergic to your cats and kept sneezing. At least you have had it done now eh! My most embarrassing moment was when I had to go for a smear test and I thought a nurse would be doing it but walked in and it was a very young dishy doctor oh I was just so embarrassed and jsut closed my eyes until it was over. I remember when I was 8 1/2 months pregnant, I decided to clean the house and 4 hours later, I was dirty from head to toe. I was about to jump in the shower when I saw that I needed some milk, so I jumped in my car, headed for the Farm Store, (dirty and shoeless) figuring that I wasn't getting off so I didn't need shoes. The Farm Store is 5 blocks from the house. Well, needless to say, I got in an auto accident and had to call for help since I started having contractions. I was mortified as the emergency vehicles showed up and all these nice handsome young paramedics looked at me trying to figure out what to make of me. The ride was very long, and needless to say, I experienced the same embarrassment at the hospital. I remember my grandmother always telling me never to leave the house without clean underwear. I really understood what she meant that day. I guess we become the "water cooler" topic of the day for them. Can't do anything about it Winter but laugh, there is so many other things to fret about. Glad you got it done though! Next time schedule it in the Spring or Fall when it's cooler for walking. Have a great one!

I can recall any presently. But the good thing is that you had your mammogram done. Did you have to walk a far distance, pity you did not get a ride for that particular day, for it seemed like you were very tired. Hats off to you, you made it. I dont understand though why the techinician was allergic to you, and why were you embarrassed. Due to situation I had to cancel my mammogram appoint for Aug, 6. Have not reschedule it yet, but I decided to do my pap-smear instaed, because I have not had it done in a while. We do have to take care of ourselves for no one will do it for us.

Yes we do have to take care of ourselves that is for sure. I am always so afraid of going to the doctor because lots of people sneeze around me.
