hi dreamssri, well here: The '@' symbol in email adds. was chosen by Tomlinson (Ray Tomlinson, a computer engineer who invented EMAIL in 1971.) because '@' signs didn't appear in name, and so there would be ambiguity about where the separation between login name and host name. QWERTYUIOP the first message sent in an email.

The @ symbol means "at", so email addresses when spoken would be "member at yahoo.com"

At the rate sign is used to separate the domain name from the user name. The doamin name is put after the symbol. The user name is put before the symbol.

Haha, I think this is funny wel la funyn discussion because I never been ask that and I never knew anyone who would ask something like that but. I wonder as well I can't it be % or $ or & or even * but since @ means at I guess it just a symbol that just tells where you got your email from and where can others get it as well. It's basically like a creator sign like when people say they own you they have a mark on you like they own you ha ha. Or like dogs they pee on things and consider that there it's just a send showing where it came from and who owns this person or in your case there email address ha ha, Well yeah I'm not 100% sure but Yeah I think thats what it means and hte purpose of that symbol on emails Well yeah take care and keep posting happy mylotting.. take care. :D
