Have you ever been shocked in the kitchen?

I couldn't live without my George Foreman grill machine.
In fact, most of the dinners that I cook are done
solely on the Foreman indoor grill.
But recently, my Foreman grill cord developed a break
up near the plug.
Unlucky for me, I didn't know it and plugged it up anyway.
Stupid thing gave me a horrible shock.
I was lucky that I wasn't standing in water at the time.
I've wrapped the cord with non-conductive tape and am hoping
not to get shocked again.
Have you ever been shocked in your kitchen?

OMG! I'm glad you're OK. You might check into having the cord repaired or replaced instead of getting an entirely new grill, to keep expenses down. Of course, it's a good excuse to buy something new!

You're sweet for saying so.
Yes, I'm fine, but that thing has
me worried. Will most likely check the
pawn shop for another one.
This grill cost $15 at the local pawn shop.
A very nice bargain.

You've just taught me something I suspect will be wonderful! I've never been in a pawn shop. I didn't know you can shop there. I intend to stop in next time I pass one. Thanks!

I promise you will save so much money at pawn shops
and second hand shops!
And much of the merchandise is practically brand new.
We got a slightly older computer for our daughter's
educational games and paid $50!
That is ten times less than a new computer.
Everything is about half of what you would pay
in a regular retail store.
Thanks for your encouragement.
I will keep posting tips as I think of them.
Best of luck.

Stupid grill!!!! My apartment is horribly humid, case the last time I tied to plug in my dehumidifier, it sparkd like a little SOB. I dind't get a shock, but the sparks were enough to warn me not to shove the cord in there. I'll get my husband to fix it when he ges here.

You're so lucky the thing gave you a warning.
I got a full jolt from the electricity in the broken
cord.
I couldn't even seen the break.
But it could see me.

Yeah, he's a sweetie. Always loved getting into stuff.
My mom didn't know any better.
Its tough keeping kids out of things when they are
so curious.
I'm happy that my daughter is older, cause she doesn't want
to do any of that kind of stuff.

Oh! I'm so sorry that happened to you.
My baby bro bit into a cord once when he
was just about a year old.
And his blessed mouth turned blue!
I can still remember it.
Poor thing.
Wish he didn't have to learn the hard way.

LOL...yes I have been. Ex-hubby and I had no money there for awhile and took anything others didn't want anymore to set up our home nicely. His mom gave us her old electric skillet. It worked great...especially since our stove was propane and we could barely afford enough propane for the furnace. Anyway, there was only one small problem. There was a short in the plug so whenever we touched the temperature dial we got a little zap. We just learned to not touch the dial if it was plugged in...and laughed at each other when one of us would forget. We actually made dinner together a lot of times...except when I was pregnant because he didn't want be messing with the skillet anymore.

Those electric skillets are really convenient!
Tricky to work with, cause of the electric cord.
But mighty nice to have.
I used to have one. Don't know what happened to that thing.
Guess it was lost in the move.

No, I haven't ever been shocked by anything in my kitchen. I am glad that you are okay and I sure hope that the tape fixes the problem. I do use my grill a lot too but not as often as it sounds like you do. Do you fix anything other than meat on it? If so, what kinds of things?

Oh! You should have supper at my house!
I make the best dinners.
I roll all my ingredients into foil, including
meat, veggies and spices and grill until done.
It's the most tender meat and veggies you've ever had.
My hubby raves!
I was never such a good cook when my stove/oven worked.
But now, my meals taste gourmet.
And I cook noodles in a ceramic bowl in the microwave.
Same for rice.
Cooks up perfectly.
And I've just started using the crockpot, so that adds beans
to our meals.
We eat so much healthier now than when I was stove top cooking
Hamburger Helper!

fortunately, i never been shocked before in the kitchen... i always try to be careful with electricity... but i had been burnt many times before and i really hate it... it is so painful and leave bad marks on my hand... i can't help it as i have to cook everyday and i want to do it as fast as i can... so sometimes i didn't even realise when i burnt or cut my hand... take care and have a nice day...

i was shocked once by my electric frying pan. there was no breaks in the cord, the pan itself wasn't working well on one half from overuse. but that shock hurt like heck.

eh, it's only 110-120 volts ac ... you'd live through a pretty good shock from a regular outlet at home... especially in newer homes, but that's beside the point... i get shocked at work from time to time... its an occupational hazzard i guess. i'm a maintenance electrician for a big factory, so from time to time i get shocked by more than 120 volts... but i'm lucky enough to not be dumb, so i've yet to sustain any serious injuries at work :) hopefully i can keep it up for a few decades

You're smart! You must be follow regulations
pretty closely not to be more severely injured.
OSHA would have a fit!
Please be careful!
Thanks for your response.

I get electric shocks from the washing machine all the time. I now approach it with the utmost caution and unplug it from the wall before I touch the wet clothes! The weird thing is that it only ever shocks me. I swear my husband doesn't believe me as it has never given him one.

First of all, BQ, if someone hasn't already suggested this, go to the hardware store for a replacement plug...the kind that you slide the cord into and then clamp down to connect the plug prongs to the cord wiring. Cut the cord off clean above the break, throw the bad part away, put the new plug on, clamp it tight and you're good. I'm sure they make them for those kinds of cords - I've replaced lamp and vacuum plugs that way before.
Secondly, the only shock I've had in the kitchen is when something I made turned out well. I've luckily avoided the other kind - in the kitchen, anyway. Got knocked across the lobby once as a child when I pushed the elevator button and there was a short in it. It SHOT me across the lobby of whatever floor I was on and I hit the wall and collapsed at the top of the stairs to go down in the building. When I regained my composure enough to get up, I FLEW down the stairs to wait at the bottom for my parents and never ever again tried to make their elevator stop at every floor (which is what I had been doing).
