what do you think is the best antivirus? My friend recommended Avira.. and now he uses NOD 32.. I've tried NOD 32 but it slows my computer unlike Avira.. but which has more potential to detect viruses and stuff like that?

Avg has worked great for me. I've had it now for about 2 years, and haven't had any problems. I tried Norton, and it really slowed my computer down.

I used NOD 32 a few times before. After installed it, the computer started up more slowly. Then I tried the new AVG free version, although my computer became slow while it was scanning for virus at background, my computer runs a lot faster while it's free.

AVAST! you can download for free. It is so far the best one I have found and doesn't suddenly come up and ask you if you want to be scanned like Norton...hate that one...also I hate Mcafee...I swear they bring in the virus's...Anyway for me AVAST! is the best one.

I use Avast and have for a long time.It has caught all bugs coming through my machine. And, my husband used it to clean up my daughter's HD other night. It had crashed and she couldn't even get it to boot up. He got into the safe mode, downloaded Avast onto her machine and it worked wonders! Fixed her HD without having to reformat it. I think it is the best freebie around. Now, if you want to buy one, I think Kaspersky is the best! I used it for a long time when you could use it free, but I never bought it since I found Avast.

At work we have AVG. At home I have the Norton Anti-virus. I have had no problems with it whatsoever. Good luck with whatever you choose.

As I have been running a computer business for more than 8 years, with my experience Kaspersky(lecenced version) is the best. But it is only suitable if you've at least 512 MB RAM, it slows down your pc a lot. For free software, AVG is good.

For me the best anti virus is the norton anti virus, although it slows down a bit the system, it has a good defense against virus. It saved my computer for these last 5 years from harmfull viruses. The first anti virus I had was the PC-cillin, I do not know if it still exist but it was unusful, in the first week that I bought my first computer they send me a virus from mirc and who send it send a very harmful virus that attaked my hard disk and damaged it, at that time for my family was to high to buy another hard disk, so I search for the best antivirus and I found the norton, and I had never had any other problem with viruses.

I have used many antivirus softwares - Avast, Norton, AVG and many others. I use Avira now because it seems to be the best... I recommend you stick with Avira.
