Hypothetical Question

Say if baseball all of a sudden decided to add 2 more teams in the American League to complete the balance of 16 teams each, where would you see them going outside of obvious places like California or New York for example? One area I could almost see would be Las Vegas for some odd ball reason. It involves gambling and it makes money and could possibly support a team if done properly and is willing to succeed.
Another team would be somewhere where you wouldn't think would want a baseball team but has sports in it. I'm talking about Tennessee for some reason. You got the Titants, the Grizzlies, and the Predators from the four major sports in our nation today. Do you think they'd want to support a baseball team if it's an expansion team?
There probably are other places. I just wanted to mainly think outside the box a bit and see what happens. These are a bit outside the norm and do they have minor league teams? I think they do but not sure, I don't follow Minor League Baseball enough to say for sure.
Where would you pick if they decided all of a sudden to add 2 more teams? To be honest, the reason I say the American League is because they have 14 teams and the National League has 16.
If they did do that, would there be an MLB Realignment much like the NFL has four divisions? Thoughts.

I think Las Vegas would be a good spot for an expansion team because then that team could be added to the American League west which for some reason only has four teams. I'm pretty sure the MLB wouldn't expand more than one team at a time...
I don't know all of the logistics behind teams... but if it were me, I would move Pittsburg from the NL Central, and put them in the NL East.. and drop Washington. I have heard a lot of bad things about them, and it doesn't seem like a place that would do very well with a baseball team. I could be very wrong, though.
As for another city to expand to... hmmm. I wouldn't mind seeing a team in Oklahoma. The midwest are huge baseball fans, and they already have a minor league team in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. I think it would work well, and that's another team that could possibly join the AL West, if need be. Or they could join the Central... but as a KC Royals fan, I would rather them not!! haha.

Wow...you make a whole lotta sports sense in your posts. I have read and responded to others. I compliment you. Most females you meet could care less. Keep writing. I enjoy them and agree with them.

The only reason they may not dro Washington would be because of an odd number team. Somebody else would have to go as well. The Nationals were the Expos and I believe almost got contracted in 2002. In 1998, they added the Devil Rays now known as the Rays the Diamondbacks. Can you imagine how messed up it would be to have them go one at a time. One team would probably get three days off and would be the odd team out.

I appreciate that! I wish there were more sports topics here at mylot... It would be much easier to find something interesting to write on! I'm really surprised that there isn't a larger sports fan population, because they have discussions all over the place for free... so they should just do it here and make a little money!

We had two teams in Canada and now only one. With baseball being so popular in the Dominican Republic and Mexico, do you think they might expand into Mexico?

I never thought about it but it is possible that it could happen. I'd be curious which division they'd throw them in based upon location and time zone. Those are actually pretty solid responses right then and there.

I really think with the influx of Mexicans and Hispanics into our coutry that it could be a good possibility.

You're right. There are a lot of Mexicans and hispanics that love the game as well. Those are very good suggestions actually. Canada has a team and Mexico could have one as well. It probably would work work out well.

Great post. Do you know I watch baseball and I hadn't noticed that the leagues were uneven.I think there should be a team in Oklahoma and another in Tennessee. you, convinced me, Tennessee would be great. I pick Oklahoma because they could have a rival with The Rangers in Texas.

Good point about that. I didn't even think of college football 'cause I think one of the main rival matchups would be Texas Tech and OK City. That's also a good idea for baseball. Sure, Texas has Houston but they only play twice a year for the Texas Silverboot or something like that. I'm not really familiar with it as the one I know is the Battle of Ohio between the Indians and Reds.

If I were to add the two teams, I would put them in Salt Lake City and Nashville. Salt Lake City because this a sports crazy town, have you ever seen a Jazz game? The crowd goes nuts, and I am sure it would be the same for baseball.
As for Nashville, basically the same reasons you put. They have all of the other major sports teams, and a couple of minor league baseball teams, but for some reason no MLB team. They deserve one.
I think if they added these teams, they would have to split into four divisions of four teams each. I would say the AL West as one division- Angels, Mariners, Athletics, and Salt Lake City. THen the AL East- Yankees, Red Sox, Orioles, and Blue Jays. Then the AL South- Rays, Nashville, Rangers, and Royals. And then the AL Central- White Sox, Twins, Tigers, and Indians.
How about that?

That works too. I don't usually get to Jazz games. Sometimes if they play the Cavs at their stadium. Where I live, they show Cavs game and I do watch from time to time though. I'm sure that could work out and the realignment plan would work just fine. I think everyone would be happy and it would work out for the best.

Las Vegas makes great sense. I cannot believe that there are not more sports teams in Las Vegas. Tennesse makes good sense, but with the surrounding teams, they would most likely be an NL team.
What about Charlotte or a team in Virgina?

Charlotte I could see being a possible but Virginia has a team though it's D.C., they are still part of Virginia on a technicality being the Nationals. That's a good one as well. The only reason I think AL is because of the balance factor if you know what I mean.

I live in tennessee, and im a huge Titans and Grizzlies fan. Honestly... i think we(tennessee) could support a baseball team. Also Las Vegas could without a doubt support a team. To make a team sucessful in tennessee they're gonna have to make it very popular... by building a great stadium, and having a staff of great players on the team. Another thing, and the most important, is winning. If a team wins the support will be there

Very good point right there. If you have a winning team, more people will be inclined to show up and want to support the team much more. I think you got some good points with that and they probably could support a team. Support and having a winning team can go a long way.
