I am Accepting a Job That Is not in the Field I Studied...

Work Hard - For The Money

I am having a hard time finding a job in the field of information technology, it is either I am not good enough or the area I am in is saturated with IT professional that is vying for a few IT jobs available. In order to make myself useful and earn a few bucks aside from the one I am earning in MyLot , I am applying for what they call odd jobs or general labor jobs. Although the pay is minimum of at least 10 dollars, I believe it is a something that I can be proud of having since it is not illegal in any way and it is an honest and decent job. It gives me something to do while waiting for the right work opportunity to come along. What do you guys think?

As an IT Administrator, I can say that most likely it is not that you are not qualified, there are just SO MANY of us now. It's not easy at all, I have been fortunate enough to have been with this company for the past 5 years, before this I was in IT also, but as "another hat", my main field was Construction Contract Administration. I am telling you this for a reason, when I applied for a job with the company I am with now, I did NOT apply for IT, yes I had already gotten my MCSE, but no one was hiring IT, so I had the construction background, that is what got me the position of Maintenance Coordinator, eventually my IT skills were recognized, and then I eventually became the IT Administrator with this company. Basically what I am saying is this, be proud of what you do, and take your "odd jobs, labor jobs" if you can , don't focus on the pay, you will have more experience to put onto a resume, and maybe, just maybe something will happen for you just like it did me, hey you never know! Be proud of what you do, the only thing that matters is your opinion! Good luck and I wish you well! Just maybe when my IT Business gets off the ground, I may even call upon you.. It's all about networking! Keep your chin up! :)

I think you study what you enjoy, some study where there is alot of income potential. Every field of study does not guarantee job placement.

I agree with your decision. You have to make money somehow and if you can't pursue your dream career at this moment you should try to find a job to at least get by on. If you do get another job in some of your free time maybe you could study IT independently to maybe gain the knowledge you need for some of the jobs you say you can't get.

i know a lot of people who works that their jobs are not related in their field of study or their course. and i am actually one of those people. your field which is IT is one that's very much in demand right now. since you are just starting, you should accept anything that can help you survive in your daily life. that is a good thinking of yours, accept anything anyway it is legal. don't lose hope, someday, you will get the job you are dreaming. I've also taken a job that is not what I trained for. I have been there 6 months - so have now had some training. It is hard work, both physically and emotionally and the pay is poor but, it is honest work and, hopefully, makes a difference to other people. I dont work full-time and when circumstances allow, I plan to get back to my previous area of work... but, I would hope to work in both areas part-time as I would now miss this work if I stopped it completely

This is the real world-if the real job is not coming, why dont you just take on something that keeps you going until you find the relevant job?-I know of an engineer who is working at a local FM station, I know of Vet Dr who is an event Organizer in my town, I know of a Medic who is a human rights activist-the list can go on and on! Just do what earns you a living-legal tender is legal tender-it wont be rejected in your pocket

I agree that it's better to make yourself usefull in a job while waiting for the right uppertunity then ingaging in illegal activities or no activities at all lying around the house doing nothing. You will allways learn, earn and make new friends while you are on this job. Who knows you might bump into someone who knows a spot where the need an IT'er. It's something to be proud of if you are not picky and a hard worker, hats of for you.

My boy freind has completed his IT and now working in a good company abroad , you need to get well updated with your skills thats very needed in this or which ever field it may be.Im a budding biotechnologists and he do advice me to get into any IT companies (or any concern) if im not getting into biotech companies , what he adviced me is to do justice to what work you do and keep updated in what area you have been qualified!!! great words isnt it? i have dreams to enter research field anyways let me see if im not able to enter as soon i complete my graduation meanwhile ill work in any where to earn money and strive more hard in another side to achieve my goal. For me its totally depends on one's own goal , if your target is money go ahead with what job you have got if you have dream then also work in any concern to earn money atleast not to depend on anyone ,then strive for your goal.. keep rocking.. after all we have one life to live !!!

I think there's lots of people who are in similar circunstancies than you, and my advise to all, is that we could never loose our faith and believe in us always. The future is in our hands, and even if the present is not nice, tomorrow will be a new day, and the opportunitie will come, if we kept our faith. Meantime, all jobs are acceptable in order to get connections and don't waste time on being depressed in home. We must survive, so, we must work and earn money. The important thing is never give up. We all have our dreams, and if one of them come true, then we achieve something with our lives.

most of the time we really dont get the work that we have studied. it depends on you if you are going to accept it. i think it might help you at least to start and have experience in different field of work . dont just stick on what you have studied.

You have the right idea my friend.Sometimes we have to take jobs that are not in our expertise just to provide food for ourselves and our families.Alway's stay optomistic and keep focus on the big picture.Pray everyday and apply for other positions in your field until the right thing comes along.

Hi Muelitz, That is the best to do at least while waiting you will be having a regular income rather than nothing, and for sure you will be meeting different people who might know a certain people who cam help you or maybe your boss can recommend you to a company, who knows! I am new here and that is my plan too, I will take any job even not related to my profession at least I will not be stagnant!

I am surprised that you could have a job that is not in your field, but it is okay, I think you have the ability to do this job, otherwise you wouldn't hired, But if you don't like you job, you can change it later, so I think what you are doing now is trying to find another job which is in your field, and that is the reason why you are at mylot, good work. Mylot is a good place, you can share your ideas and make new friends, and of course, earn some extra bucks. Have a good day.

Hi there Muelitz! I believe that a lot of people are really underemployed. Meaning, they take on jobs that are not related to their field of studies. I am one of them. I finished a course in business and have my MBA and I teach in College. Though I do run some businesses of my own, I still think that as far as teaching job is concerned, I am underemployed. But, I do love teaching and I think that is what really matters. With all the increasing prices and other issues, people sometimes do not have any choice but to take on any jobs (hopefully legal ones) for sustenance. Anyway, I hope you will be able to find a job that is related to your field of study but moreover, I hope you find a job that you really love and enjoy. Take care!

Sometimes thing like this happens. I think you have made a right decision. You just carry on with your current job first meanwhile waiting for another suitable job for you. You still have to earn a living to support your daily expenses. I think this is the best way. It's better than nothing, lol.

do not under estimate yourself..by your simplicity and genuine words,i can really feel that you deserve to get a good job...you have inspired ma thoughts as well.since am too a final year student of IT,thoughts about ma job have began to awe-struck ma sleeps nowadays..so many of my colleagues have got jobs already...though i have more interest and passion for this field,i've been rejected because of an academic gap in my career...and mylot has given me confidence to face this challenging world...i feel really great on earning from here while the other people of ma age around here near me are whiling away their times...whether it's more or less,it's ma hard earned money...hope and wishes for you to get your dream job ASAP

Hi Muelitz, Chance just will come in the right time.Maybe it's not the right time to you now.As a social guy,we need to fill our stomach first, then can think more about the developing way. So,I think you are right to do the job while waiting for the right one to come.Believe that you can handle this properly.
