HI All, I was in a mall to buy chopping board. I have bought a wooden chopping board, as i am confortable with with. Some myths about wooden chopping board.
1, they are unheygienic: Wrong, as long as we wash the board with detergent after use and rinse with clean water.
2. They are natural antiseptic: wrong
3. Hard wood is better: right: its more resistant to damage, and last long.
I tried to use a stone chopping board but feel the the sharpness of knife reduce due to that.
so do you use wooden or plastic or stone chopping board? and why? share you opinion.

im using the white plastic.if we can call it...not really sure what made of it ..maybe a harder kind of plastic...i used it since i think more cleaner..since in the wood as we chopped harder ..tidbits of the wood thru chopping can be mixed in the food and the possibility of cooking and eating the wood itself if we are not careful enough...

I have four different cutting boards. There are two that I actually use. I have a marble one and a hard plastic. I don't like these, I can't stand the sound of the knife scraping on it, and I think they dull the knives also. My favorite two, a large wooden board i use when I am chopping a lot, and a softer plastic - it rolls up, I use this for smaller jobs.

I use plastic at the moment. I would love to get a wooden butchers block to sit on my kitchen counter. The only reason I'm still using plastic is because I just haven't gotten around to to buying more stuff for my kitchen.

I prefer wooden one. I don't like anything synthetic and I wonder if it continuse to send off something poisonous. I ever worked in a chemical factory and in charge of safe affairs. I can't find any chemcial substance without toxicity. Wooden one is safe and nature.

I was able to use both, but my husband warned me not to use plastic chopping board because it could blunt the sharp edges of the knife so I set it aside and used the wooden chopping board. I liked using wooden chopping board because its easy to cut veggies and meat with it and its kinder to the knife, it does not blunt the sharp edges. I just wash the wooden board with dishwashing soap, rinse properly and in my case I let it dry under the sun. I just don't know if it's right, I just thought that bacteria will not have the chance to live there and accumulate when you let it sun-dried.

I actually use a glass chopping board as it was bought for me years ago by my mother in law, its lovely and has a picture of animals on, you can get all sort of them in UK. Anyway I use to use a wooden one and I never take any notice of the myths as at the end of the day as long as its cleaned ok then there is no problem in my mind!

I always use a wooden chopping board, I have a hard plastic one, but I don't use it very often. I just wash my board with soap and water, and if I cut meat on it, I will spray my bleach spray on it and use some more soap on it and rinse it with water and put in my dish drainer to dry. I've never used a stone chopping board, but it makes sense when you said it dulls the knife. Does anyone know how to get the onion smell out of your board? I've noticed sometimes when I'm cutting something on it, and if I used it to cut up onion the smell comes out. I just try to wash it as good as I can.

I use a plastic chopping board because it is easily cleaned.
As a kid I was always told to never get our wooden breadboard wet, so I didn't know you could wash those and being a clean freak, I must wash mine.
I get annoyed when other people use my board though and leave huge grooves in it. I usually use a plastic protector sheet over my board once it has too many grooves because then the board itself can no longer get as clean anymore.

I think that if you are cutting something hard enough that you are getting huge grooves into the wood of the cutting board, maybe your knives need sharpened. If your knives are sharp enough, you shouldn't be doing much damage to the cutting board by having to push too hard to cut through the meat or vegetables.

My mother uses wooden chopping board, I have asked her why she would use wooden ones, she told me that it is more environmentallly protected. I do cook sometimes, and most of people here would rather buy a wooden one rather than a plastic one, the main reason i think it is to better the environment.

Hello,
I do not believe that using a wooden chopping the environment at all. Have you ever wondered where does the wood used in the chopping board came from ? They need to chop down a tree just to make dozens of that chopping board you are using. Thus, I believe it is not necessarily that using a natural product equals to saving the environment. You might be doing more harm instead.
Plastic is derived from oil, wood is derived from trees. Think about it.

i have several, one wooden one that is heavy, I paid a price for it, but bulky and so I bought a hard plastic one, and I use it all the time. I also had some of the thin ones that you fold and pour out whatever you chop, not too fond of them, Mostly I just cut on the counter if I only have something small, I feel like any of them if you don't wash them well they hold germs.

We too use a wooden chopping board because the plastic ones turns yellow and it looks more unhygienic. Also a wooden chopping board offers just the right resistance when you cut food in it. Also I love the sound that wooden chopping boards make when I do rapid slicing.
