Do You Struggle To Remember Things?

I have always had trouble remembering things at an early age, and it's never really improved. I don't mean remembering where I put my house keys or forgetting to buy milk when I go to the store, but I mean more meaningful information like about the country I grew up in, or the places I have travelled and what we've seen along the way, you know, useful information that makes good conversation.
A lot of things interest me but I have a hard time remembering them and when asked certain questions, I draw a blank and shrug my shoulders and say "I can't remember" and yet I know I've read about it, and was even told about it, but at that point in time, I just don't remember it (does that make sense?). I get very uncomfortable when that happens, and then shy away from the conversation and feel silly because I can't remember. The funny thing is, when I'm back home, I start to remember and by then it's too late - I'm sure people think I'm daft!!
Does this happen to you or am I just a dizzy brunette?
What things do you do to help you remember? I could use a lot of tips Thanks.

Who are you? What is this all about? Just kidding...With that aside, yes, I do have trouble remembering...I find myself saying that I don't remember...then later saying, now I remember...I don't think you are just a "dizzy brunette."
Not sure what to do about it though...
I am very shy when it comes to conversations with alot of people so I just try to blend in with the woodwork and hope nobody talks to me...LOL

Everything is fine here...Just busy being with my grandsons during the day..We have been working on jigsaw puzzles....500 and 1000 pieces...We are on our third one since last week....Try to get a few minutes on here at night...I have been reading a book a day too! Everyone I pick up is really good...and then there are series, so I have to read all of them....

Hi!
Tip: Stay calm, and don't be so hard on yourself.
Don't worry about what other people think.
You could be wrong and making up these thoughts, and
making it harder for yourself.
Just be calm , be yourself, if the others cannot except
you the way you are, that is there problem, not yours.
You will find, that changing your attitude will help
you remember things easier.
And when you don't remember,so what?
Most people just like to hear themselves talk anyway.
Ask them a question, that way the conversation stays on
and they will love you, because you listen and don't talk
so much. Know what I mean?
How do I know this? I am like you.
I need to remind myself these things too. hahaha!
Take care,
P.S
Is your Hubby back ?
How are you and the familly?
Best regards,
Margajoe.

You know I think they do like hearing themselves talk LOL
Hubby was back after three days because their equipment wasn't going to arrive until another two weeks, so they got sent back home. Now that the equipment is there, he is going on Tuesday to Guatemala and Belize for four weeks.
Maddy is doing well in his swimming lessons and starts school in a few weeks - YAY I get to have a break to try and figure out what to do with myself. Hubby wants me to get a full time job (would help with our finances) but I'm not ready to work full-time. I might pick up another part time though we shall see. Trying to work up the courage to get my license as well - aargh I know I just got to do it LOL
How are you margajoe and the housing situation and with your folks? I saw your discussion and have yet to reply.

You must have a photographic memory if you rarely miss anything.

I am having troubles with the same thing. I can't remember on which hell did I put that, or this or wherever and whatever. Maybe, a practice of less-thinking on the valuable things may help us... ^_^

Hi cupid, you must have a photographic memory if your able to recall things instantly and remember them for a long time. My husband has a photographic memory too and remembers a lot that is learnt in a very short period of time. I wonder if if there is any way to improve ones memory? I'll do an online search and find out. Thanks.

I'm like that, I remember stuff that I am very interested in but other topics that I have little interest, I don't seem to remember much about them, even though I have read or studied it. Weird huh?

fortunately, i'm not that bad in remembering things to be honest... i forget some things every now and then but not that often... my hubby also has problem in remembering things and what i do is to make him write down everything that he needs to do in his mobile phone and set the alarm to remind him... or write it in his notebook... otherwise i paste a post-notes everywhere around my house to remind him of what he needs to do... that helps him quite a lot... may be you can do the same things by keeping notes for yourself to help you remember... take care and have a nice day...

My short term memory isn't too bad and I can mostly remember day to day things, it's the long term memory that isn't great and often find myself not remembering basic facts and information, and yet I know I've read about it.

yes i do, but i find that my forgetfullness is because i dont get the deep restorative sleep that i need due to my breathing. i should be using a machine to help me breathe at night, but due to perma and severely stuff nose constantly, i find it hard to use it. :-(

Aww sorry to hear that. My father in law uses a breathing machine at night because he gets sleep apnea. I think lack of sleep has a lot to do with my memory too amongst other things.
I hope you are going to be ok.

Hmmmm, I never would have guessed that you had a bad memory. You seem to be so sharp and never forget one thing. Oh my, I do not think that you should say such things about my buddy. I sure can't think of one thing that you have ever forgotten. Oh wait, there was the....

oh I suffer the same malady. I have been to so many wonderful places - but when trying to relay the experiences I might remember what happened or what was seen - but not where it was seen or took place. Or if I remember a place I do not remember the details. It is so frustrating.

Well, I don't have bad long term memory but I have some other 'disease' haha. I call it my dates disease. I could have read something, or someone could have told me something, but when I write it in an email, I write Sept instead of Aug. or Mon instead of Tues. This is not very good if my work depends on sending out the right dates!
But usually the error is quite obvious and people get what I mean. Although I've received some ribbing about this.
I'm sure you're not a ditzy brunette. I suppose you could take pictures, and start a journal or scrapbook and write memories of those moments. So you will always have a nice time flipping through them and reminiscing.

I don't have trouble remembering things short term, but it's the long term memory that I don't do so well with and often can't remember things that happened earlier on in the year. There are some info online that suggests things to help you improve your memory.

sure happens to me. there are times my boyfriend asks me about my country (i am from the philippines and he's swedish). you know, there are times we talk about things and he asks something about my country... just like you, most of the time, there's a huge blank on my head. i could not answer the questions directly. i need to take a pause and think. sometimes, i even give him the wrong answers. there are times when i can't really answer the question, i'll just say, i'll answer that later after googling the net.
i don't know any trick there is to be able to remember facts. if there is, please let me know.

HI maddysmommy,
I know this is very common to all of us..I am like that also when it is not very significant to me, I tend to forget but things which brings so much meaning in my life or a place which brings enjoyment, I will always remember it..
When I am in the middle of conversation and I forget something, I will address it to the group so they will help me recall it and when we will not remember it, we will not take it seriously..LOL! We have limitations too as a person!
I have no tips in recalling things really...

Thanks for your response checapricorn. Maybe I just need to find some stuff on how to improve my memory so that I am able to recall things so much better. I'm sure I can train myself to do so. Thanks again.

Dear friend,
At early times when I was a kid my memory was not bad. But after I had grown up around when I reached more than age of 23 my memory power began to come down from there at times I struggle to remember certain things and also very soon forgets the names and may be even some other matters too.

My memory is poor. Sometimes, I have a question. Then I asked someone. Someone told me that he or she didn't hear me clearly. Thus, I had to repeat my words. Then, u know what, I even forgot what I asked. This is so terrible. Also, sometimes,I walked out my room. Later, I realized that I forgot something. As a reasult, I gotta go back. Even as I opened the door, I asked myself, why did I go back? Is there anything wrong. I thought it over to remember something. Whereas, I failed. So what? I needed to get out of my room another time and reach the place where I was. Finally, I know what I missed.

I don't think my memory is that poor LOL simple unimportant things I can remember but significant or factual information that may be important, I can't seem to remember.
