Ok, mylotters, I need sympathy, my husband is out of town, and boy did I have a surprise at the dentist this morning. I went in because I had some pain, the next thing you know, right there and then, I'm getting 2 fillngs and a tooth extracted. Now, I admit, it's my own fault, the tooth that needed extracting was a mess, and because of a horrible fear of the dentist, I pretty much ignored it. So, I kind of knew it would need to come out, I didn't think it would be today. So, I had to stop at the drug store, and get some codeine and anti biotics. It's not too bad yet, there's still freezing there. I'm scared when the freezing wears off. I vow from this day forth, I won't ignore tooth pain! Anybody else ignore something for so long, and then regretted it?

Your body has a great way of telling you something is wrong and woebetide you if you choose to ignore the warning sign, it comes back and bites you with a vengeance! I was actually worried about the GP seeing me as a hypochondriac because I was finding that I was getting different ailments all the time, so each time I went to the doctor I went with a different problem!!! Mostly worrying about nothing, but you just don't know do you, if there is something wrong it is better to catch it early, sometimes if you leave it, it can be too late, and that is worrying! I can't put up with toothache and despite dreading the dentist and the bill afterwards I make myself go because I know damn well if I leave it it will get worse! Still at least it's over now my friend, all done. Listen to your body!

My dentist would have made me pay for this visit, and scheduled another to pull it, another to fill one and another to fill the last, effectively getting four fees out of it.

Oh, Gerty, that's horrible. My guy said that he had the time this morning, so he wanted to get everything done in one shot.

Oh I don't like going to the dentist either and went for the first time in 15 years last year. They weren't too bad and definitely needed a good clean but I haven't been back since even though they keep sending me reminders in the mail LOL.

Don't avoid it, trust me, you don't want to have to go through what I am today.

Yes, usually my dental needs, mostly because of the cost. I should note that I still have not accepted the lesson that it is cheaper to spend $100 or so at the beginning than thousands at the end, and lose the tooth as well.

I hate going to the dentist. I know what you feel like I been on pain pills, antibiotics for my teeth to. And I hate it when they give you the shots in the mouth. I have four root canals and crowns on all of them. I had them all done at different times. If you go to the dentist where I live they want there money up front before they do the work. It is sooo expensive. The last time I went to the dentist was 6 months ago and was I glad that I had no problems so far.

I was unemployed so for long when I was in my twenties and on welfare, and there they do not give you a root canal or a crown, they extract the tooth if it is bad, and there are dentists who prefer extractions rather than saving, but it was because I could not afford to go that eventually they had to remove the tooth, rather than not wanting to go. I mean the dentist costs so much. I had been surprised when the dentist told me no cavities, but he told me I had sensitive teeth so all my worry was for nothing. But I did wish I had saved money and gone without somethings. I would have had all my teeth now.

I have a cavity big enough to fit a writing pencil into. It never really hurt me to much till a few weeks ago. I made the appointment to see the dentist and he put in a filling that had some medicine in it. It felt great for about a day but by the second day there was a pressure building causing it to hurt worse than before. By the third day I hurt so much that I went into the bathroom grabbed the floss, folded a piece in halve, worked the doubled up piece of floss between the teeth and popped out the filling. It felt better almost immediately and has not hurt since then.

My tooth couldn't be saved, it was too late, because after there was a cavity there, pieces started to break off. It was nasty.

Every toothach I've ever had set in on a Friday afternoon. I would spend the whole week-end with my ears ringing because of all the asprin I had to take. Monday morning I would be sitting on the front steps of the dentist office hoping the would have mercy and work me in (they always did, bless em). I was always fortunate when I had to have teeth pulled, they pop right out unlike my mom and sister who have these weird roots that twist and curl around the jaw bone. In a way you were lucky, at least you didn't have to fret about two fillings and an extraction for two weeks. You didn't know you would have all this done so the worry only lasted a little while. Keep what you have flossed real good and use one of those Sonic tooth brushes, they are wonderful, I haven't had a bad tooth since I've been using mine.

I'm afraid too of tooth cleaning by the dentist. That's why it's the last place that I wanted to be. So i clean my teeth everyday to prevent tooth decay.

When I was a kid I was always afraid of dentist but by several visits I came to grow out of that fear in fact when I was still single I even had a girlfriend who was a dentist. Thanks to my mom for dragging me to that clinic I never experience tooth pains since I was in gradeschool and up to now I regularly visit a dentist.

yup i did... i went to the dentist only for a tooth-cleaning. the next thing he did, he had put fillings in all of my teeth. he made me come back 3 times in his office because the fillings had to be done in portions, not all at the same time. on top of it all, im not that satisfied with my teeth... he didnt even clean it well... he could have just diagnosed my teeth first and said, "here's the thing you'll need filling in all of your teeth.. you can do this outside or with me. you'll have to pay so and so.. blah, blah.. give us a call about your decision.." something like that. in that case, as soon as i get in the chair. the dentist just said "oh, you need some filling.." and drilled my teeth... after that, his assistant said, "that will be ____".... i didnt ask for a filling, i asked for a cleaning... grrrr!

When I had braces I go to the dentist once every two weeks to have them tightened. Also she gives me a a good cleaning on my teeth whenever I go there. Unfortunately she's in another country now and because of this I haven't really gone to the dentist recently. I just hope I could find a dentist as good as her and a dentist who also gives great discounts.
