Well 2 more days till we leave for our road trip to Nova Scotia, 4 kids and 4 adults in 1 minivan lol to say the least it's going to be interesting!
This will be my first time back in 9yrs and I'm so excited and stressed out! Packing for a 6 and 2 year old for 2 weeks is not going to be easy! I've made a checklist and yet still feel as though I'm forgetting a ton of things!
So question for everyone, have you ever had to take children on a long road trip? How did the experience go? What are some things you should definitly make sure you bring? and last but not least, has anyone here ever been to Nova Scotia?

Well the trip went awesome! and here I am back in the city life :-(
Considering the fact we had 4 kids with us packed in a van with 4 adults I couldn't have asked for better, they behaved better than they do at home!
We managed to get a portable DVD player and that worked great! We seen and did tons of things, got to go to the Bay of Fundy which was beautiful and amazing at low tide. I had almost forgot how different things are down east. So much open space for the kids to run free, wild blueberries, blackberries and strawberries free for the picking, and the people there are just so much nicer you can just sense the respect everyone has for everyone there. Even the air is so much different, cleaner and wow the stars are always so bright!
I definitly miss it already, summer has gone by too fast.

I usually travel by train and bus after having flown to my destination. I dress my toddler son warm clothes and bring nappies as well a feeding equipment for him. My teenage son is happy to look out of the window and discuss the scenery. I suggest taking some ideas for games along like 'eye spy' and 'alphabet links' to do that name an animal with each letter. Your younger could bring a cuddly toy along. I haven't been to Canada yet but I plan to do so in the near future. I would love to go to Halifax and Peggy's Cove. Another place that it not far from that lovely area is Prince Edward Island. Have a lovely time.

i live in land locked ontario and i would move out to that neck of the woods in a heart beat! i was there when i was in highschool on a family trip and loved it and i also love the ocean. i think i would move to PEI :-)
what i have done for my kids is buy stuff like books, games and toys and candy and put them together in a bag for the girls and gave it to them before we went on a long trip. they always loved it! the most we have been on the road is about 5 hours.

I agree would love to move back there if it wasn't for the shortage of work :-(
Putting together bags is a good idea, thanks I think I'll try that it's better than having to dig around in the luggage for something for them to play with.
Other than this the longest road trip we've had was 4 hours, wish me luck!

I have made roadtrips with my kids, one thing I always made sure of (age appropriate) was that they had a travel bag with them. Something for them to do, read, games, coloring book, crayons, and finger foods that were not messy. I also always carry wetwipes, still keep those in my car. However, have not made a long roadtrip with that many in a mini-van, and it should be interesting. I have to say, I don't miss the days of having to pack for two kids along with everything else. Now all I have to pack is for me, or me and my s/o if we are both going on a trip. I have never been to Nova Scotia, you'll have to share pics with us here.

Portable DVD player, head phones, games, books, and lots of prayers. We took a road trip that was 1300 miles, the first day it was all good, prayers were needed by the end but I did not kill my children and the older boys did not kill their younger brother, it was all good in the end and I would do it all over again. hehe
