I use all different types of embellishments on my layouts, and I am always keeping a lookout for things that could be used in scrapbooking lol. I have used scrabble pieces, they make great title lettering. I have used cutouts from gift bags from places I bought a souvineer, I have also used fun pics I found on the internet, and after printing them I will either place foam under them to give them a little more pop, or add glitter, etc. I have used postcards that I found, even cutting out just a part of a postcard that would go with my layout. I also make little pockets for either memorabilia or journaling cards to go into. It all just depends on the layout I am working on. I did scrapbooks for a girls softball team this summer (each on was ordered by the girls and was personalized for the individual). I had to get creative, since finding embellishments and paper for softball is not that easy, lol. It is fun being able to scrapbook and getting paid for it. Good luck. I like the idea of using the old keys.

When we go places, I always get post cards or brochures or something of that nature, and I use them as mattes for pictures or backgrounds. I also like to press flowers and leaves, and I use those, sometimes with small twigs. Buttons with needle and thread are good. Pages from old, damaged books or newspapers are fun to use. You can do so many things with them, tint them yellow, tear or burn the edges. Most of the stuff I use is found or made by me. I rarely purchase embellishments or scrapbook paper. I often look at those things in the store, though, to get ideas. Then I make them on my own or use some sort of substitute- partly because it adds that personal touch, but also because that stuff is so expensive.

ANYWHERE!!! Literally! I have a blog where I have been sharing all my layouts that I have created if you care to read about things I have learnd and yes, even places to find supplie! ITs in my profile Scrapbook Layout Ideas. Find things in your junk drawer, in the toy box, at the hardware store, yard sales, thrift stores...on husbands work bench or in your sewing room. I use the rings from the pull top of Campbells soup cans to make envelope "pulls". I just lace fibers through and add something to hide the opening and they are just the best! I have used pieces of broken sea shells from the beach we went to that the layout is about! Put them in a shadow box on the layout! Use them just "littered" on the layout. The sky is the limit and that is only if you get tired of thinking!

You can find tons of little things at the craft store. I bet you have some things already at home you can use like ribbon, magazine pictures, lace, just dont get too bluky or the pages will not lie flat

There are so many places to buy and get scrapbooking supplies. Even Big Lots has scrapbooking items. I also look in hardware store, stationary items, other sections of the craft stores. I pick up post cards. If it's an heirloom album, you can probably find clip art or old postcards and stamps to add it. Don't forget aging techniques as well. I use what ever I can find that will be archive safe. I don't want my scrapbook falling apart after all my hard work.

I just saw on here someone suggested using puzzle pieces and I thought it would be a good idea to put together like a corner piece and then use that in the corner of the page. of course you can use buttons, dried flowers/leaves, sticks...I like the scrabble tile idea. What about other game pieces? like MOnopoly money or something.

I use alot of different things. Me be a girl scout leader I get alot of my ideas from other leaders. I like to turn old puzzle pieces into animals for my scrap book. I turn some into butterflies for a spring page in our scrapbook. also I have used old game pieces from games. You can usually get these at a thrift store. Just let you imagination run with it and your ideas will come to you before you know it.

I just did a memory scrapbook for my granddaughter who graduated in May. I had some things from years ago of hers. One was the drawing of her hands when she was young. They were in red, pasted on a paper plate, made in VBS one summer. I took those plates, cut out the hands, and used those on one page. I also used ribbon on a couple pages with word cutouts. She was a soccer player for years and captain of her Varsity team the last two years, so I had lots of pictures to use.
