About a year a go I was grocery shopping with a friend and there was something she really wanted that, although was at half price, was worried she wouldn't have enough money to pay for it. She asked me if I wouldn't mind paying for it and she would pay me back later. Yes you have guessed it, to this day she has still never given me the money for the item! To start with it bothered me and I would bring the item up in conversation in the hope it would jog her memory. So much time has gone by now and she has been such a good friend to me that I am no longer bothered. I am sure that in a drunken stoop one night I shall tell her and we will laugh about it.
So have you ever lent something to somebody and have never got it back? Have you ever borrowed something from someone and never returned it? How long ago was it?

I have strong feelings about borrowing money, and borrowing money from friends would be a no no area for me!it is an area that can cause problems with friendships and relationships.A loan from a friend or relation is usually interest free, but imagine if they suddenly decided to add interest! If you want to borrow money then go through the proper lenders, the major banks,in the UK we have Barclays bank,HSBC bank,Natwest and Lloyds bank, they are major benks, then we also have many other financial institutions.there has been a lot bad press lately about the Pay day loans, apparently there are many people making use of Pay day loans,a system where a cheque can be cashed before the wages have cleared through the bank, and a fairly high fee is charged for this service. But with the credit crunch biting and we are on the edge of a supposed recession, the lenders are becoming more wary of who they are lending too.Mortgage repossessions are at an all time high, and more and more families are finding they need to seek help with their debt, either choosing to go to an advice bureau,or in the worst cases declaring themselves bankrupt.

It is sad,and it reported that there are many more then three months in arrears with their mortgage repayments. But I always understood that if a young family were evicted then the local council was under an obligation to help them find a home,be it a local authority house or a privately rented house.A fact that amazed me this morning ..heard on the radio news ,there has been a 33% rise in the amount of people trying to book a last minute package tour holiday abroad, when in one breath they say how short money is..and the next they report this..does this mean that people are going to go irespective of their financial circumstances,or lol are thet fed up with the weather in the UK.

I dare say it is the latter, I know I am fed up of the weather in the uk for sure. Weird thing is, wait for it... the people that had their house reposessed next door are moving back in as I speak! Work that one out. Rumour has it that his boss bought the house and they are now renting off of him. What a barrell to be over eh? How someone didn't buy the house in the meantime I will never know!

hi there ruby222
Yes borrowing or lending money between family and friends can certainly bring ill feeling and sometimes a lot worse. Darn good advice your giving out there ruby222 lets hope there's some people out there that will take it. I hear what you are saying about mortgage repossessions too, the house next door to me has been empty for nearly 6 months now as the mortgage company took it back from a family with 4 small children, it was really sad.
Thank you ruby222 for your response!

I also experienced the same thing happened with one of my friend, We go out by group and we go to the Mall and which is without any idea that was a Big Sale 75% on that time, which is we try to go on check inside and there we got and have found out each of us the things that we need and all of a sudden one of my friend ask me that I will have to pay for her and she will just change or pay me back after when she will have the money so I pay for it and that happened 3 months ago and the bad thing is we keep on seeing each other every week but it seems like she did not remember anything of it and so I told one of our friend to open for her the subject because I felt shy to ask on her so after that incident I learn and tell myself to be strong enough to tell someone that I do not have any extra money because they will not lend it back for me....

She asked me if I wouldn't mind paying for it and she would pay me back later.
I think that she has not erred. She told you that she will pay you later..yea..later..may be within another four or five years.. lol.. Patience is the key.. Just kidding..
I have a colleague in my office.. who asked me to purchase an Educational CD from a book fair, i invested some money.. and bought the CD pack for him..
HMmmmm.....four years gone... CD.. is with him, the money is also with him..
Yesterday.. he told me.. that he will try to give me the payment next month.. G.O.K. ( God only knows)

yeah i've had that happened to me at least twice. once a friend in college borrowed money from me and he hadn't paid me back after a while ( like a couple of months i think), so i asked him for it and he was in total disbelief that he actually had not paid me back after such a long time. he said he had never done such a thing before, he would always give the money he owed back promptly. he felt i was the one who was trying to con him! (i wasn't, i swear!). after arguing back and forth he finally gave me the money, begrudgingly!
one of my church ministers once said that if you lend money to someone, you have to assume you're giving it to them. if you're not prepared to do that, than don't lend the money. and i think that makes sense. i have never borrowed any money from other people. i have borrowed things, and i've always returned them.

Well, for me my classmates borrowed my collection of Ragnarok manwah (a comic book, i think that's how the koreans refer it as). Until we graduated college it never returned back to me. Also, two books of mine written by my fave author have never been back in my hands. I think someone borrowed it in the class, forgot about it, or intentionally hid it somewhere so we could all forget about it. Man, I'm very sad about that loss. I love those books.

Hello ishralene09
Awww that's a real shame, maybe you could buy the books again. I've just remembered that I lent a video tape of my school play to a lad who was also in the play and he didn't return it when he said he would and I didn't see again. 10 years or so later and my friend was telling me about this guy who had just started at her work place and told me his name, yes it was him. I went there and asked him about it and all he would say is that he didn't remember anything about it. I think wanted to keep it for his own souvenir! Rat!
Thank you for responding

Yeah, the two books I can live with it and buy it someday, the problem with the comics is that they are a rare find right now, and I cannot find any copies anymore...sad...anyways thanks for the comment.

I am pretty sure that there must be plenty of things that I have lent to people and never had back, but off the top of my head I cannot remember any! I am a person that does not lend money or things though simply because I do not like the thought that I might not get it back.
Material things I am not too bothered about, but money I am. I cannot afford to lend money and not get it back so it is easier to just not lend it in the first place!
