Preference: Subs or Dubs?

I prefer dubb. Because sometimes the subtitles go too fast. Other times it is because the words can match the background color making it hard to read. If you are watching it on a small screen then it will be hard to read the subtitles.

I prefer subtitles than dubs especially when watching asian movies and dramas. I find it really good especially when hearing their real voices. There are dubbers who's not really fit with the characters that they want to dub. Its really funny for me, thats why I still prefer subtitles than dubs.

I seriously hate dubs because it often ruin the movies and anime.Most of the time,the dubbed language fails to convey the message or contain of a dialog.It is pretty much irritating if i couldn't get to understand the storyline.I prefer subs because i wouldn't mind reading texts while watching.Just like you,i like the to hear the original Japaneses voice actors,if not mistaken it is known as seiyuu ? .Their tone of speaking suits the dialogs better.

I generally prefer subs, but that's because I'm trying to learn the language and expression from watching the anime. :P A lot of dubbed videos may have accurate translation but they miss the point of the characters' personality and nuances completely. The only anime I've seen that has a pretty good dub is Sony's Blood+. While the voices were a bit disconcerting (they were obviously American) they managed to capture the tone and personality of the characters they were playing. There is one thing I can *never* understand about dubbing though. If the Japanese can say it in three words and you can translate in 3 words or less, why do they feel the need to add dialogue? There's an episode of Ruroni Kenshin (or Samurai X) where the main character falls off the cliff. His love interest reaches him and calls his name. In the Japanese version, she merely repeats his name. In the English dub, she professes her love for him. Which doesn't happen until much later in the original version. I could name a few more but I think it's rather obvious that I'd prefer subbed over dubbed.

Sub! That's the only version I will watch. I do understand a little Japanese so it makes sense for me to watch Sub versions. I love to listen the way the Japanese voice actors talk. I have watched some Dub versions before (by accident). I simply dread it. The voice is simply mismatching (especially if you have watched the Sub versions before)

If it's a cartoon I don't think it makes so much difference, but with live action, subtitles definitely. When you watch a foreign live action movie dubbed in English, you miss half the performance of the on screen actors - the part where they talk! The English voice actors may be great, but then, they didn't act out the scenes, so it's not quite like voice actors doing an animated film where acting it physically was not meant to be part of it. So it's like taking half of one actor's performance and half of another's for the same character. And yes, there are WAY too many people in America who don't want to read subtitles. Compare to Japan, where they have no problems watching American movies with Japanese subtitles. But then they also have 0% illiteracy and high school drop out rates.

For live Action Movies,Definitely subtitles! You get the emotional input of the cast in the original Language,not that you don't get it from the visuals and body language,but still...I think Subtitles are stepping away a bit from the arthouse Movie into mainstream.."Amelie" and "Crouching Tiger" worked very well in mainstream Cinemas although subbed! they're important if You're learning a Language,too..try to enjoy the movie in the Language You're learning,but also have a safety net if You get stuck!

subs.. I agree with you dubs ruin the spirit in a movie, and beside sus can teach me foreign language without the feeling that I'm learning :D

I also prefer subtitles.. things get lost in translation when dubbed, some phrases may be longer or shorter when translated, therefore being consistent with the lines being delivered as well as the characters saying their dialogue should be close or in sync, and certain cultural influences aren't easily be said or properly translated so sometimes, words gets changed to accommodate the culture of the viewers of the dubbed show.

When I watch foreign films of late, mostly what I watch is anime. I don't mind subs, if I have the time to watch them (mostly I listen to movies or tv, and look up when something sounds interesting), you really have to pay attention to something sunned. I prefer dubs, because I don't have to pay attention. The other reason, is the opposite of why many people don't like dubs. I have heard people say that English speaking voice actors get the emotions wrong. However, when I listen to the Japanese speaking voice actors, they either sound angry or in pain to me. I don't get much emotion beyond that.

I prefer dubs instead of subtitles because i think subtitles can slow the movie down a little i just like hearing the words if i wanted to read i would have stayed home and just red a book instead of going to the movies besides they sometimes make the words to small and i need glasses so subtitles are kind of lame but i have watched a few good sub films and i still enjoyed them but i like it a little more when its dubed but i think they should make sure that they do good dubbing cause sometimes the dubbing is really cheep and out of sync with the actors.

I would really much rather have sub-titles than dubs, because the dubs always confuse me and take some of the pleasure away that I get from watching the anime or film or tv show in the first place.

Well I prefer subs because I think it portrays the proper voice for the characters. I also agree that the original voices are better! Well reading subs is not really a problem for me because i'm already used to it. XD I think the best alternative is to learn japanese!

I prefer sub because I like everything original better... and they don't make watching anime annoying or anything since I know Japanese pretty well already. I just need subs to help me a bit with vocabulary that I don't know :)

Well I Like The English Dubbed Cartoon Versions a Lot. Because I Can,t Fully Watch The Action of Cartoons And Anime. If I Keep on Reading it,s Subtitles. So this is my reason For Watching English Dubbed Version. But Then Again Even The Subtitles Are not That Bad Either.

i would say subtitles, dub voice actor don't even sound that nice the original is always better.

I prefer subs cause you can be quite sure what the characters really mean as long as it's a good sub ok. Sometimes if it's a dub version, they just try to fit the words with the opening of the mouth and sometimes things are lost because of translations. But I do like to watch some dubbed animes so i can focus more on the visuals. Just hope the dubbers do justice to characters. When watching subbed ones, i sometimes have to pause it to finish reading or repeat scenes to focus more on the video.
