How many times have you received irrelevant responses to your discussion?

I don't know about the others, but I'm constantly checking for new responses from my discussions. And sometimes I really get this irrelevant responses. It's actually fine, but then there's one I get that is insulting as well. I also get this from other sites, even from poststoriches. But then even I sometimes throw in some responses that does not help or whatsoever, but I try to at least connect it to the topic in a way or the other.
I'm just wondering...
-Have you ever received such responses? How did you feel about it?
-Have you ever posted a response that is pretty off-topic, or irrelevant at all?
-Why am I noticing this trend only to pay-per-post sites? I've been a member of other forum sites(not paid) and when I'm reading stuffs yeah many are off-topic and stuff, but when there's a discussion on a general topic, usually the response of the first ones is good, and just becomes off-topic. Here the trend is all of a sudden there's a great one who'll post stuff like he never read the topic at all.
That's it. Thanks for those who will respond.

Yep I have had them and I still get them from time to time. It's because the person is just posting for the pennies. They did not take the time to even read all of the title before they posted, and don't care to either. They think they can type in anything and move on to the next discussion as fast as they can, and get paid.
I report them when they do this. Why should they get paid for that? It's ANNOYING on top of it all. I hate putting work into thinking of and then writing out a really good topic, just so I can get a reply of "I like green eggs and ham". LOL

Yep. But others I do report, others I don't. Because I can see that they're trying to connect really, but then they go off-topic. Like the one I've said about a laptop, I clearly said in the discussion head that as much as possible owners of both desktop and laptop should be the one who'll reply, and then I saw a reply that said in the VERY BEGINNING of the response "I don't own a laptop" and dared even further saying that laptops are much more expensive than desktops, even when the topic title clearly states that the question in hand is that if your laptop is faster than your desktop. Kind of making my head whirl round and round.
Anyways thanks for this info. Green eggs...where can I get that? And do you have a positive of that photo? Because I'm curious how that girl on the pic looks. heehee. Have a nice day.

I haven't been a member here very long, but it seems that the general trend is to post something whether it relates or not. Since I didn't join mylot for the money, I tend to only respond to the discussions that are of interest to me or crosses my path of experience. Sometimes though, I tend to think that the responses are different due to cultural differences in which case I do like reading the answers. Chances are I am never going to travel half way across the world to meet some of the amazing people that I have had the pleasure of talking to and exchanging view points with and this is as close as I am ever going to get here. But like you, sometimes I read the answers (several times) and am left wondering where the answer related to the question.

Yeah, sometimes I just read too. I don't respond if I can't really make a sense out of myself that will contribute to the topic. But then there are answers that are just so...annoying. And it's especially annoying if you're the one who started it, because you want to read good responses. Well, thanks for the response you gave. Have a very nice day.

It is as though they have not read the discussion all the way through and not read the responses that have been posted.
They respond with a different topic that is miles away from the discussion at hand.
I think that there a taking some medicine that doesnt agree with them.
Have a great day from Deeeky

Lots of times but I can't expect everyone to be the same.
I'm happy if people read them and think them worthy of a reply.
There are a lot of other discussions I don't bother with.
So if people think they should respond to mine thanks for the respect.
Your reply doesn't have to come from Pluto or Einstein.

I agree. I think one of the great strengths of mylot is its diversity and wide-ranging opinions, long may it remain so

sometimes when you wrote long post to your discussion and ask many questions to reach to final question they just read the first question and give answer to that so its being irrelevant because i wasnt asking that i felt and think that people doing like that is only here to earn some money and they are giving just responses to higher their post however i dont feel so sad or bad about it sometimes also people can miss the subject thats not a problem for me

Yeah, I also feel the same way. Actually I get upset from those I've put on poststoriches, because it's not that hard answering what sport video game is the best for you and then you'll see replies such as I don't play video games, or mario is the best. I mean, Mario? When is that a sport game? All star hoops, yes, but mario in general? Or that a discussion I started here where I'm asking if the laptop is faster than desktop and get a reply like the laptop is much more expensive. I have this feeling that others are taking that "all this for money" thing too far and not focusing on what the discussion really addresses to. Thanks for your response and have a nice day.

the first thing about this is they do not read the discussiopn detalis all the way throung.....they just read the main topic and starts the discussion they do not even read the posts given by someone else!!!!!
and this thing makes us think that have we discussed anything about the the toipc they are discussing???
and this thing shows that people are not trying to discuss anything but just to paste their posts in order to earn money???

Uhhhm...yeah kind of like that, some people only read the topic in hand but not the content, and causes them to blurt out info not needed by the one who started the thread or discussion(Like that "Best sports video game" and then someone wrote mario...and hey that guy just reached payout on the other site! tsk tsk). The good thing about mylot is that you can still read about it because it's just above the textbox, so you could check if you're saying something that is inappropriate. And then pasting can be done only after 500th post so if ever someone wanted to cheat they'll have to do it in a hard way. Well, thanks for sharing your point. Have a nice day.

in reverce, im only a member of this site so i wouldnt know, what other sites are like. As far as mylot goes, yes sure there are those who stray off topic but maybe that is simply because the mood takes them. OK i have had a few who do just give illegitimate responses, but not manyb and most of them are under 100 responses and testing the site out to see how few cents they can earn in a day, lol.
Blessed be

Yeah I know it's a few. I don't even get replies to some that's why I wonder why others bother to reply when they know it will just annoy the person. And thanks for hitting the right word. Illegitimate responses, that's how I want to refer them. And straying off-topic is a good thing, that does not mean harm to me, I even do that. But those that are really not relevant from the first sentence up to the last, that's what really annoys me, because I get the point they want to contribute, but every time I post a discussion I DO CARE about it and check it from time to time to see if there's a response, because what I wanted at the very least is a honest response from others...
And about that testing how much, I caught that person in poststoriches copying and pasting the same response to about 4 topics, two of which are mine, and I reported him. For the very least we must enjoy the diversity of the responses we can get from sites like these, and thinking about money will kind of degrade the quality of responses you do.
Anyways thanks for responding to my discussion. Have a nice day and God bless.

I get irrelevant responses pretty regularly. I think it's just from people who are eager to make money and have nothing really important to say. If I have nothing to say on a particular topic, I won't answer the discussion. This seems like such an obvious thing to me, I don't know why everyone doesn't do it. If I get a completely irrelevant response I usually mark them with a "-". Sometimes I will even comment and say something like, "What were you smoking when you wrote this?"

Yea. Many times. Usually such responses are given by newer members.
I feel pretty calm about it. Nothing wrong with such responses but I would appreciate responses with more sincerity and thought put into it.
Some people do not read the discussion properly or they only read the title. I guess this is why their discussion may be off-topic.
There are people from all over the world in mylot. Different people from different parts of the world may have different interpretations for a certain subject.

I think you answered your own question. People at forums that are not paid do seem to stay more on topic, but you'll always find a few that have their own agendas and want everyone to know what that is. But at sites that do pay for socializing and being involved in the community, there will always be some who respond to every topic even when they have nothing to contribute.

I understand your situation, as a former web master and forum administrator, I usually stumble upon off-topic responses to certain topics. However, if that does happen on any of my forums, I either delete the post or encourage the user to make a new topic pertaining to what they were talking about.
Well, if you're asking if anyone has ever posted irrelevant information in my discussion topics limited to only myLot, I can't really answer that question seeing as I haven't started a discussion topic myself.
I have posted my share or irrelevant posts from time to time, but I try to avoid doing so. Sometimes, other individuals may think that my post doesn't relate to the topic at all, but not in my head.
Maybe the reason why you're only seeing things like that in Pay-Per-Post sites is that the more you post, the more money you get credited into your account. So people will find numerous ways to increase their post count and earnings by posting as much as they possibly can on threads.
Your last few sentences actually make me laugh a bit. I have seen that many times . People come into a thread and the members who are participating in the thread ask, "Did you even read what the guy said?" It's funny seeing those.

Yeah. Kind of remind me of those flaming threads...Heehee. Actually in a forum, you can just BS the guys and leave, but then they won't care, because it's for free. But in a community where you get paid a fraction of a dollar for participating, I think we each deserve a nice response that is well thought off, but that's just me. For me it's like you're given a job and you just say BS, and get the money.
Anyways thanks for the response man.
An off-topic for you, you've been a web master before, right? Do you have any e-resources about PHP that you could share? I wanted to learn those. Learning how to program the web is a big advantage as of now, and I've failed 5 times already applying as a entry-level programmer. Thanks and have a nice day.

I never actually took a lot of time studying PHP in depth. I just look at the scripts I use, such as vBulletin and analyze how things work. Although, I don't really do this often. Also, I should let you know that I only ran a small site but administered several forums.
