I had a D70 for a few years. Now I'm using a D300, but I still have my D70! I can't bring myself to sell it! It's such a great camera, and I absolutely love it! So now it's my back up camera! I'm not sure what kind of tips and tricks you're looking for exactly. But for taking pictures of the moon, I got a t-mount adapter for my telescope and I attach the telescope onto my camera in place of a lens and photograph the moon that way. Here's an example of a moon shot I did doing that with my D70: http://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=10611479 As for shooting at night, the D70 has two night exposure modes: Night portrait and Night landscape. You can try experimenting with that. I usually shoot manually when shooting at night though. But definitely use a tripod at night! If you have any specific questions about the D70, feel free to ask me! One thing the D70 is excellent for is infrared photography! You may want to get yourself an infrared filter and experiment with that!

OMG that is a wicked shot .. have you got some details on the telescope and the t-mount ? I am in New Zealand so maybe able to find something around on either EBAY or TRADME. Most of my shots of the moon i do with a 300mm lense .. so probably 1/8th the size you have .. and i never used a tripod. some come out all right but yes after seeing that i am way impressed. might try a tripod shot nowish and see how it goes. I will keep an eye out also for the infrared. What sort of things are cool to shoot with the infrared filter ?

Infrared mostly works well for landscapes. It makes anything green look white... which has a great effect on trees! To see some great examples of infrared photography, just go to Flickr.com and search for "infrared". Most cameras have internal infrared blockers, so if you want to shoot infrared you have to convert your camera. But the D70 does not have these blockers! Many photographers will buy a D70 JUST for shooting infrared because it's cheaper than converting their cameras. To use a telescope on your camera, you need 2 things. A t-mount adapter for your camera, and a t-mount adapter for your telescope. What I did was went to a local camera store and told them the model of my camera and the model of my telescope and they were able to get me the proper t-mount adapters. If you're unable to do that, you can order online from Adorama.com. They do ship internationally, however sometimes when shipping overseas there's a lot of extra taxes you have to pay. But yah, on Adorama, just search for a Nikon T-mount adapter and a T-mount adapter with the make and model of your telescope!

No, I have a D50. They are very similar except a few little things the D70 had extra but I couldn't pay the extra $300 for the difference. I love mine. So do you use manual or automatic? If automatic by using the night, moving, close up or portrait modes will help give the right effect you are looking for. If using manual just experiment. Good luck.
