Barack Obama is about to choose a running mate.

I just received this email from the Barack Obama campaign. It appears as if he is going to choose his Vice President soon. How soon, I really don't know. This is very exciting and I can't wait. Here is the email I just received from David Plouffe, Barack Obama's Campaign Manager. Dear Lloyd -- Barack Obama is about to make one of the most important decisions of this campaign -- choosing a running mate. You have helped build this movement from the bottom up, and Barack wants you to be the first to know his choice. You will receive an email the moment Barack makes his decision, or you can text XX to XXXXX to receive a text message on your mobile phone. No other campaign has done this before. You can be part of this important moment. Be the first to know who Barack selects as his running mate. Thanks, David David Plouffe Campaign Manager Obama for America (I deleted the text message number so this post won't be deleted. The last time I posted a similar discussion with specifics someone reported it to myLot and my post was deleted.)

I got that email too. I didnt sign up for it but I might. I am really interested to find out who he is going to pick. Some think it is going to be the governor of my state Tim Kaine, but I think he would do better picking someone from a rust belt state. I hope that's who he chooses. Interestingly enough, former Va. Governor Mark Warner is giving keynote address to the Dems. He may be the next big player. He is well liked in Virginia, more than Kaine I think.

I'm really starting to believe that Senator Joe Biden from Delaware will be his choice. He is the Senior Senator from Delaware. He assumed office January 3, 1973. Born November 20, 1942 (1942-11-20) (age 65) Scranton, Pennsylvania Political party Democratic Spouse Neilia Hunter (deceased) Jill Tracy Jacobs Residence Wilmington, Delaware Alma mater University of Delaware Syracuse University Profession Lawyer Religion Roman Catholic Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. (born November 20, 1942) is the senior United States Senator from Delaware. He is a member of the Democratic Party, and is currently serving his sixth term. Biden has served for the sixth-longest period among current Senators (fourth among Democrats) and is Delaware's longest-serving Senator. He is the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations in the 110th Congress. Biden has served in that position in the past, and he has served as Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary. I believe Senator Biden would be an excellent choice. Lloyd

I just heard that Biden told a group of reporters that he is not being considered for the VP spot. I don't know what to think. Barack Obama has done an excellent job preventing any leaks about his VP choice. He is running a great campaign. Lloyd

I'm with you, Lloyd, and I've been thinking this for quite awhile now and it's starting to look like I may have made a correct prediction. As someone from not too far from Scranton, Pa., I can tell you I seriously believe Biden will really help guarantee Pa. He's been in Delaware for a long time, obviously, but still has strong ties to Pennsylvania and has the kind of blue collar roots and lifestyle that goes over very well here. Annie

How exciting! It will be very interesting to know. I can't believe someone reported that, I have seen racist remarks and other hate things in discussions and they weren't deleted. I guess a discussion can be fun of hate and ignorance but forget about specifics lol.

It is very exciting. The election is now only 79 days away. I can't wait. I've also seen the many hateful and racist remarks that you referred to. It's just that there are some myLot members who monitor my posts and look for loopholes to have them deleted. They only want people to see their position. As you can see, it hasn't stopped me. They've had my posts deleted and lowered my ratings, but I'm not worried because I believe I'm supporting the candidate who is best qualified to lead the American people. Lloyd

It will be nice to finally see who he is going to pick. It has been hard for me to really take either one of them seriously lately esp., McCain with the childish jabs he has been making. I'm glad that it has stopped at least for now.

Hi Lloyd, I too, am very curious who he will pick. What it your opinion, who would you like to see him pick for vice president. I read somewhere where he is even considering Caroline Kennedy, do you think this is even a possibility?

I'm also very curious as to who he will pick. I don't have a clue who will be his VP choice. If I could make the choice for him, I would choose Colin Powell, the retired General in the United States Army. He was the 65th United States Secretary of State (2001-2005), serving under President George W. Bush. As a General in the United States Army, Powell also served as National Security Advisor (1987–1989) and as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (1989–1993), holding the latter position during the Gulf War. Powell came under fire for his role in building the case for the 2003 Invasion of Iraq. In a press statement on February 24, 2001 he had said that sanctions against Iraq had prevented the development of any weapons of mass destruction by Saddam Hussein. As was the case in the days leading up to the Persian Gulf War, Powell was opposed to a forcible overthrow of Hussein, preferring to continue a policy of containment. I agreed with him at the time and still do today. He is well respected here in America and throughout the world. But I don't think he wants to be part of the political process. The story about Barack Obama considering Caroline Kennedy was started by The Smirking Chimp and then picked up by other publications. Here is the link for you to read. http://www.smirkingchimp.com/thread/15071 Lloyd

It would be great to move on to the next step in this political process. I can't wait for both Barack Obama and his VP choice to hit the road explaining their plans for the American people. It should happen anyday now. Stay tuned. Lloyd

I would really hope Barack chooses Hillary for the ticket which we all no thats not going to happen but i pray it does somehow that would put the democratic party over the top in my opinion. I believe that would be great for the country.

We'll just have to wait and see who he chooses. Whether he choose Hillar Clinton or another person for his Vice President, it will be an improvement over the pair occupying the White House today. I also believe it would be great for the United States. Thanks for your reply. I see you are new to myLot and I'd like to extend a warm welcome. Don't be a stranger. Lloyd

I heard he was going to announce via email and I think that's kinda neat. Since I was supporting Hillary at the beginning of this thing, I don't get emails from the Obama camp so be sure to let us know when you hear who it is.

I am now leaning towards Senator Joe Biden of Delaware. I listened to Barack's speech to the Veterans of Foreing Wars this morning and he mentioned Biden's name in a positive light. Joe Biden is an expert on foreign policy — he is the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee — who is known and respected in capitals around the world. I think this would be a great choice. Anything will be better than those who occupy the White House at this time. Lloyd

I agree. Experience is very important. Plus if he picks a gov or other sen the dems could lose a dem voice in their state.

While losing Biden from the Senate would be a big loss, there's not real danger of losing his seat to a Republican since Delaware has a Democratic Governor so it's a sure thing a Dem would be appointed in his place. Annie

I'm on the list to get the e-mail too and I can't wait. Sorry I missed this discussion for so many days, Lloyd. The latest I've heard is his announcement may come on Thursday and the two will appear together on Saturday in Illinois, same place as he announced his candidacy. I can't wait! Annie

I remember the day when he announced his candidacy. I knew he had potential, but he has exceded all expectations. I really like how he outlines his ideas. It's a common sense approach that is totally opposite from the "cowboy diplomacy" practiced over the last 8 years. I'll be watching along with you on Saturday. Better days are coming soon. Lloyd

The last I heard is that Barack will choose a running mate at the Democratic Election, which I believe starts the 27th of this month. I guess that they are doing text messages because more young people are voting now than ever, and this is the medium they most use. I think its a fine way to get the word out, but I will just wait on the news to tell me. You know that will be a headlining story once he does choose.

The 27th of August is only 9 days from now. I just can't wait. In the past younger people didn't vote in large numbers. I believe they will come out in force this election cycle. They realize that who is elected President can have a huge effect on their standard of living. You can bet it will be the top news story the second he announces his VP pick. Stay tuned. Lloyd

Whom ever he chooses for his VP will have to really be ready for some work. I know when he gets in office all eyes will be on him to fix things. If he doesn't then they will talk junk about him all on the news. So who ever he chooses for his VP has to be ready. I really wish that Hillary would be his VP. But I don't think that she will.

That is why I'm glad he's taken his time to make this choice. It's a very important decision. You are correct that all eyes with be fixed on him. He is already being scrutinized as if he were the President. I'm not sure Hillary Clinton would make a good Vice Presidential candidate because of her husband Bill Clinton. Barack needs to be in charge and Bill doesn't want to play second fiddle to anyone. Plus I think America needs a break from the politics of the past. I'm tired of the devisiveness and I'm sure you are too. Anyway, I can't wait for Barack Obaman to make his choice. Lloyd

I liked that message. I am really wondering who it will be. I think that the best choice would probably be Evan Bayh or Joe Biden. Tim Kaine the governor of my state is also a contender and some people feel he is the pick. I think Va. will probably go for Obama anyway. I dont think he needs Tim Kaine. I think he'd do better with one of the others.

I really like Joe Bided, but I don't think he will be the choice. The right-wing have already said that they will bring up some of his past actions such a some previous speaches he's made. In other words, they already have a smear campaign in place. I am really impressed with your Senator Jim Webb. In his first term in office, Senator Jim Webb's legislative priorities have been guided by three themes: reorienting America's national security posture, promoting economic fairness, and increasing government accountability. Webb has successfully supported legislation that reflect these themes. He has introduced or cosponsored measures focused on: developing robust practices of international diplomacy, supporting our troops through responsible deployment cycles, providing comprehensive educational benefits for our post-9/11 veterans, developing stronger ethics laws and making government more transparent and accountable to the American taxpayer through greater oversight over wartime contracts. These are things that I agree with Jim Webb on. Also I like the fact that he is one tough cookie. Lloyd

Hi Lloyd, I'm really anxious to see who Barack names as his vice president. The neat thing is I think he is going to do it this Saturday in Springfield, IL which is about 32 miles from where I live. I would love to go see him, since I've followed him from the time he was an IL senator, but I don't like crowds very well and I know it's going to be crazy there. I'm just so proud that Barack is from my home state and that he is running for President. Good Luck Barack!! Happy MyLotting, Char

Hey lloyd! That is so cool! How exciting! It's getting closer to elections, what's he waiting for. I can't wait to hear who he's going to pick. Who do you think it will be. I have no idea anymore. I guess it isn't going to be Hillary. When do you think you'll find out. Did you get any kind of hint as to how much longer it would be. I know I'm asking so many questions but I'm so excited too. It's been a long election year and I will be glad when it's over (I'm sure so will everyone else including our new President!) Well, it really doesn't matter because he's got my vote and I just can't wait to get Bush out of the Whitehouse (I didn't put him in there either time)!

It is very exciting and I can't wait for Barack Obama to make his decision. The election is right around the corner and we have a chance to change the direction this country is going. I have no clue as to who his running mate might be, but I'm happy the has taken his time and wasn't pressured into making a quick decision. I doubt it will be Hillary Clinton. I don't think either Hillary or Bill want to play second fiddle to Barack Obama. I'm like you. It's time for George Bush and Cheney to leave the sceen of the accident called the Bush years. It's time for a change for the better. Hold on to your seat. Better days are ahead. Lloyd
