I am thinking of boycotting the movie Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince...

Yes, i am contemplating on not watching the movie when it comes out... and not buying the original DVD...
The reason behind this is the fact that producers pushed back the original screening date of November to July... because they want it to make more money... Harry Potter is not just about money... and to think they already made billions with the franchise... and now they want more...
I have been eagerly waiting for the movie to come out... but when i read the news... i was shocked... and i thought to myself... i will not be a part of the producers' money making tactics... i will not watch the movie in a movie theater... but use and alternative (you know what i mean)... i am not asking any Harry Potter fans to follow suit... but these producers need to learn that Harry Potter is not just about money...

When i learn about this i was ticked off as well. Why is it that everything in this world has to be about money. I personally view money as a necessary EVIL.

I don't know what their problem is... but summer or not... Harry Potter will surely make them close to billions not just with the movie... but with the dvd and other items that they will sell when half blood prince comes out... thanks for the response...

Wrong they may be but they are no different then any other business. Push or promote when the money will be at it's highest. I like harry potter but am not a harry potter junky so I guess this doesn't bug me as much. But I do understand the business side of it. Thing is the kids are all out of school right now so ummmm more would of probably went and well adults as well not just a kid movie I know. Sorry that all the Harry Potter peeps are upset.

Hi aseretdd,
I understand how you feel...I have been following this movie as well as my husband and I believe this will not affect my desire to continue my support!

I still love Harry Potter... but i am starting to hate Warner Bros... moving the screening date is just too much... we have to wait for another 11 months just to watch Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince... if they do this to the last movie... a lot of fans will get angry... thanks for the response...

That is an interesting plan. I will not go to see that movie either, but I'm not exactly boycotting it. We just usually wait until movies end up on TV before watching them. Sooner or later they all get there. If we croak first it won't matter very much in the long run, will it?

That is a nice way to put it... but in my case... i don't get to watch a lot of tv... nor do i have the time to wait for them to we shown on cable tv... so my best option is to go to the theater or buy the dvd... in the case of Harry Potter... i will buy a dvd... but the alternative one... thanks for the response...

Just because the producers want more money for their efforts won't make me boycott the movie. Harry Potter is still one of the best movies I've ever seen and just because the producers are money sharks doesn't equate to the movie itself. Yes, Harry Potter is not just for money but wouldn't you want to see how they all fared in this movie version?

Well, i can still watch the movie even if i will not go to the movie theater or buy the original dvd... and i know how they fared because i already read the books a couple of times... i just do not understand why they need to move the movie date... thanks for the response...

I don't do boycotts because I don't think they work, plus I believe when you participate in a boycott you're only denying yourself something you want. I do agree though that this is incredibly greedy, there's no end to the greed of people in the movie industry, which is why I personally have no problem with those "alternatives" you speak of.
Actually, a boycott might be effective in this case if enough people boycotted JUST opening weekend as a protest. I could go for that (I still doubt there'd be enough people to make an impact on WB's wallet though, or even to get the point across.)

I agree... there are a lot of Harry Potter fans out there who would kill just to see the movie on the opening day... and i think no one would ever join a boycott with me... but i think i will still do it... and just go for the alternative... thanks for the response...

This is true they want more money. I was a little upset myself when I learned that this moviw will not come out untill next year. It makes no sense to me sine the other 5 movies came out year after year and now we have to wait for the 6th movie. I know I am dissapointed myself.

A lot of Harry Potter fans are disappointed by the decision of WB to reschedule it for next year... i just hope they will not do it again when it comes to the movie version of the Deathly Hallows... they already split the movie in two... thanks for the response...

I do not think a boycott will work. There is to many children and fans that cannot wait to see the movie. I am saddened to say they postponed the opening just to make money.

A lot of Harry Potter fans were saddened by this decision... but i know that this will not stop people from going to the theater to watch it in July... but in my case... whether the boycott will work or not... i do not want to be a part of their greed... so i think i will just opt for the alternative... thanks for the response...

Hello aseretdd,
I read the news too. Their making-more-profits tactic will definitely makes the fans angry. Since I am not a great fan of Harry Potter, I will normally get my 'free stuff' from my nephew. I am one person who will not contribute to their profit *smiles*

When I first heard the news, I got mixed reaction, angry, disappointed, surprised and also, I am waiting for someone to say that it was just a joke or rumuors. I really don't quite understand on why they did this, I mean, all the reasons that they had were nonsense and make them really greedy too. Really disappointed and angry with WB right now, and really what's the point for showing us the trailer and releasing pictures, if they release it on next year. Perhaps, they thought that we will be satisfied and be happy with it, duh I know it's silly of me, but I still hoping that they change this decision and return it to the original schedule of releasing it.

i completely agree
ive ranted on and on, on various websites and dont have the energy to do so here but being a hardcore fan i refuse to support these greedy b*stards who have no respect for the fans and thier expectations, if they think they are going to make more money by prosponing it then they better think again...

I understand your frustration, and if I had the willpower to do the same, I would. But I'm too much of a fan to not watch it in a theatre and I would look back on it with regret for the rest of my life, so I suppose I will have to be a part of their 'money-making tactics'. LOL

I don't expect anybody to do what i am planning to do... because i know what it feels like to be a big Harry Potter fan... the wait can almost kill one... but then... i do not want to be a part of their money greed... so i will just go for the alternative... thanks for the response... welcome to mylot and i hope you enjoy your stay here...

So did you really boycott the movie or couldn't you just stop yourself and watched it anyway? Or maybe you didn't go to the cinema and watched it "somewhere else" ;) so that you wouldn't be part of their "greedy scheme" :D Did you like the movie? I found it very dark and a little boring - they could have done better fight scenes since that was the highlight of their movie :P
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince movie will be shown this July... so there is no way for me to watch it... although i saw the trailer at the cinema... and thought it will be an awesome movie... i haven't decided if i will just buy the pirated copy or watch it in the movie theater... i will just cross the bridge when i get there...
Thanks for the response...

I just thought of the best way to boycott their wanting to make more money, and still have the movie in your collection. You should find a way to buy a bootleg or pirated copy lol. You know that the movie makers don't make any money off those, that's why they are so against it. So you should find a good bootleg copy of it, so you can still see the movie, and not give the makers any of your money lmao!

That is actually what i am planning to do... there are a lot of good pirated dvd's here... and sometimes they are even better than the original... but the task of finding it can be difficult... but that is what i will do... thanks for the response...
