My ears were first pierced when i was three months old. Yeah it was cute and i was one of the only kids in elementary school with pierced ears, but heres the problem. The hole is now high on my lobe where its hard to wear earrings and it not look weird. I would have to take a pic to show you what i mean, but when the child grows it seems the hole moves higher. Or am i the only one that this has happened to??

I am with you on not piercing kids ears when they are babies. NOt for your reason though. Babies pull on their ears, when they rough house as the get older the earring can get pulled out easily, etc. I got min done around the age of 9 when I asked for it and I think that is a good age. Kids start settling down a bit an dyou can explain to them - and they understand - how they need to be more careful and they can care for the piercings themselves.

I think the second time i got my ears pierced i was about 13 and its when i noticed the problem with my first holes. Since then i have gotten them pierced two more times. My niece who is six recently got hers pierced and because i havent worn earrings in awhile she didnt believe they were pierced. Imagine her surprise when she seen me today with four earrings in each ear. She kept having to count them. LOL

It may just have been the person who did your ears. My first 2 holes I got at 9, I got a second hole in one ear when I was 17, then I did the other years about 2 years later and even though it looked lined up when the girl did it, now it doesn't. Right now I have 3 holes in each lobe and two in my left ear cartilage.

Mine slightly moved due to having a constant allergy problem for the past 3 years. But ears also constantly grow and that can affect the placement. Most often, baby ear piercings end up way down low on the ear lobe.
My grandma didn't let my mom and aunt get their ears pierced until they were 10 or so. But my aunt ended up getting her ear ripped through one day on the playground. The scar isn't too noticeable now, but that's kind of bad. I think I'd want my kids to be at least 16 so that they could really decide.

No offense to anybody who does this but I think piercing a baby's ears is ridiculous, I don't understand why anyone does that. And if it hasn't started already, there's eventually going to be mothers who get their babies' noses, lips, belly buttons, etc. pierced, the more popular these piercings become. I don't think anybody should have any part of them pierced, tattooed, or anything until they're old enough to say "Yes I want this done" and sign their name to it.

That is so wrong about the kid getting a tattoo!
I did see something here on MyLot about a 10 year old getting a labret piercing. I think ear piercing a baby is also ridiculous. Let them decide. Some people actually don't even want their ears pierced. My grandma is nearly 80 and her ears aren't pierced.
I don't think kids need to wait until they're 18 for ear piercing, but they should at least somewhat have the power to decide. At least on piercings, maybe it would grow back. For a tattoo, I think people should definitely wait until they're at least 18 for that.

I agree. A friend of mine was telling me the other day about this kid in preschool who had a tattoo. To me that is so wrong because what if when they grow up they hate it and my understanding it cost a lot to have one removed.

Hi there!
Mine don't seem to be like that. I've seen a lot of babies too includung my cousins and sister who are now big but have been pierced when they were still babies and they look fine. Maybe your pierced was just placed a bit higher.
Ciao!

I agree with you, Iskayz. My mom had my ears pierced when I was 3 weeks old. I have never had a problem with my ears. I couldn't thank my mom enough for doing that for me!

Me and my siblings and all my female cousins got our ears pierced when we were babies (a month old on the average) None of us had problems as to the positioning. I guess they were all correctly placed.Just have your ears pierced again and do not wear earrings on the wrong hole so it would eventually close.Good Luck!

Actually I know a lady that is in her late thirties now, that said the same thing as you! She said her mother pierced her ears when she was an infant and much of her childhood they were in the right place, but now they set higher in her lobes as if the bottom of her ears grew downwards.
That's just one of many reasons why I never did pierce my girls ears until they were both 10 years old. So many things can go wrong with them when they are just babies and they are growing.
No offense to those that have or do, just my own opinion is all.

i think the same thing also happened to me, my holes in my 2 ears are up there, so when i was wearing little loop earrings 24/7 when i was in grade school and high school, when i removed that loop earring when i was in my late teens, i noticed that one of my earlobes has this little dent as the result of my ears growing and the earring being "outgrown" i think. the hole in my left ear has no dent coz the loop earring that was there was lost when i was in high school so i replaced it with the stud earrings that i had since i was a baby. so i had mismatched earrings that time. i dont put my hair beneath my ears anyway so people wont really see it. its a bit high but its cool with me though. it doesnt really "stick" to the hard part of our ears above the lobe.

Maybe your piercing was just in the wrong place or not centered with your earlobe. A hole in the earlobe as other holes in your head (eyes, ears, nostrils, mouth) remain centered as you grow why wouldn't an added one do the same unless it was off centered to start with?
As a family tradition each girl in our family gets their ears pierced right after the 6 week check up and they are all perfectly centered. I am now 42 and no problems.

I have never heard of this but I can understand that it is possible. My sister in law and I both have 4 month old girls. She pierced her daughters ears and I didn't. Not cause anything is wrong with it but because It should be a decision me and my daughter make together.

Although my ears are pierced when I was a baby, I wouldn't let it happen to my baby girl if ever I will have one. I want my girl to fashion it herself giving her that sense of freedom of what will make her fit on her generation. Maybe during her teens would be the right time.
I'm glad whoever my mom asked on the pierced on my ear lobes, she did it right and I'm enjoying fashionable earrings.

i got mine pierced right after i turned 12, and i took it out one day and forgot 2 put it back so it closed up... so i wouldnt know, but i think its really stupid to just do it on a kid who can't even decide if they want it or not.

Sometimes the holes move higher, sometimes they end up way down at the bottom. Either way, I would definitely have to agree with you here!
I am lucky that my parents didn't want me to have pierced ears, so I finally got them done when I was 20.
But I used to work in a jewelry store and I would see people all the time with holes in a really weird position. And parents would bring in babies that kept pulling at their ears and asking what types of earrings would help. Unfortunately, even the children's screw back earrings are still fun to pull at for kids.

I got my ears pierced when i was 10 months old and my brother got it pierced when he was 3 months old or even less not sure.. in our place its a ritual for every man to get his ear pierced so everyone does it..My brother's ear has very small hole at times he used to wear my ear ring and makes comment on me.. lol.. but my cousin brothers ear doesnt have a hole now , when you grew big the hole which you had will close and you will one day find no hole in it.. but if you wear any ear ring in with a year gap or couple or years gap even you will seem to have a tiny hole ..

Aargh the thought of my daughter (if I had one) getting pricked when they're babies doesn't sit well with me and I don't think I would get her ears peirced. If she wanted to get them done when shes older then that is fine. I didn't get my ears peirced until I was about 9 or 10 and I paid with it out of my own pocket money.

Oh My God!!! I have the same problem! I got my ears pierced when I was about 4 months old. Now my earlobes are getting higher and harder. I think the problem is that your earlobes are right on top of your veins. I don't think it will harm you but better safe than sorry. You should get your ears pierced in the right place.

My sister got her ears pierced when she was like 9 or 10, but after like a year, she took them off and didn't ever use them again. In fact, her right earlobe still has a little indent of the hole for some reason and her left earlobe is just fine.
