Hi everyone!
I'm just wondereing, is the reason for a slow upload in the internet or while browsing is because of our internet's speed is slow? Or is it because of the computer we're using?
The reason why I'm asking this is because I am using a new laptop. It's my brother's and the operating system is windows vista. Its ok but I feel the uploading is still a little bit slow. Well its faster than my laptop but I was expecting it to be really fast because this laptop is brand new.
My internet speed is 100mbps. So is it the internet or the computer whose running slow?
Ciao!

yes chances are pretty bright if your internet speed is slow uploading will be slow. it also depends on if many windows are open and you are simultaneously downloading files. also see what your speed is in kbps... 100mbps isn't your speed i think.

its ur local area connection speed !! not ur internet speed !!
u can know the speed of ur Internet connection fom the provider who supplied the internet service for u or there is some programs but they are not accurate

you have a lot situations like me. i am also having a 100mbps internet connect. and i am also use a laptop. and i think windows vista is not so good as its previous windows xp. which i am now using . i think there may be 2 reasons for your internet speed.
your computer seems not to be the problem coz it is new. but windows vista does take a lot of space on your computer. hey .reload your computer with xp might solve the problem

Yes. If you have a cable connection it will be significantly faster than someone with a modem hookup. Sometimes if your computer is filled with tons of files that can definitely cause the computer to run a lot slower. I've heard that Vista takes up a lot of energy if you have a few programs running. I think it uses a lot of RAM at one time.

well as far as i know 99.99 % its due to the internet connection speed...
even several years old computer will be more than enough to handle the internet speeds quite easily...
and the 100 mbps speed is the LAN speed and not your internet speed...

Internet Speed is definitely the top reason for fast/slow uploading. Oftentimes, in most DSL internet accounts, uploading will be slower than downloading. Mine for example. I have 1.5 mbps download speed but I only have 384 kbps upload speed. I can't go past 384 kbps when uploading.
Also, kilani is correct. 100 mbps isn't your internet connection speed. That's the speed of your LAN (local area network connection). Try going to www.speedtest.net. Try it 3-5 times to see what your real speed it. Also, refer to your internet provider and ask what your speed is both up and down stream.
Aside from internet speed, spyware/anti-virus/background programs may also affect your upload speed. Run some virus scanning software to make sure. Hope these help.

Yes, you're right. Sometimes due to minor glitches the internet speed varies and goes down than your 100 Mbps. And mind you, it's never 100 Mbps, it's upto 100 Mbps and will keep varying according to traffic. To some extent your computer's RAM is also responsible as it is the one which caches your download/upload stuff. A better RAM will give you a higher performance. It's nothing to do with the Operating system.

Yes I have noticed that. Speed do varies. Mine is usually fast enough during wee hours. I have a 512 RAM in my own laptop. Is it ok or do I have to increase it to give more speed because my internet is slow. I have plans of replacing my net provider but I can't do that until February next year. That will be the end of my contract.

Internet speed divide into two categories :
1. Upstream or also we called upload
2. downstream (download)
We can imagine a highway road as our internet way, more wide ( more kbps) will make our car can get more speed. The speed will depend on traffic and how much "wide" the way that we can used. Some ISP will give us different speed for download and upload, especially for have internet connection that using satellite. But usually they have same "size" for upstream and downstream. So what can make our upload became slow ? thats will depend or many factors, traffic is mostly reason that can caused slow upload, the other factor is how much wide the "way" that give by ISP to us

Yes, most of the time and as far as I know, internet speed is the culprit for slow uploading and downloading of anything, especially since you mentioned having a brand new laptop. And no 100mbps is NOT your internet speed, it's just your LAN speed!

The internet upload speed is always slower than the download speed. In my experience, the internet actual speed is slower than the mbps. For instance, your download speed might slower than 100mbps. You can test your actual speed by taking the speed test on various websites, such as http://www.speedtest.net/. I used it to test my internet speed, and the test result is that my upload speed is about 7 times slower than my download speed.
