Let us discuss how we can write right and correct English while posting a discussion or writing what ever we like. Do you consult dictionary for the correct spellings. It is but natural that some times while writing fluently one feels that whether the word I am writing is correct or not needs to consult dictionary.I happened to me also. While I was writing a topic for a forum, its promoters says only grammatically correct and with correct spellings write ups are acceptable to their system. I faced a lot of problems. I consulted a friend and he told me to download fire fox Internet explorer. When I experienced I find it very much helpful to write correct English. When ever there is a mistake it pop up and we can correct it. How do you consult dictionary while writing.

Not really but I do note words to check up on. Sometimes or should I say, frequently, there are things I'd like to be more sure off so I note them for checking out. Using a dictionary while writing would slow me down too much.

Yes,definitely. I need a dictionary when I'm writting a topic or post a reply.I'm non-native speaker,so sometimes i'm not sure about the spelling of words.I want to be understood by others,so I think I should spell words correctly. As matter of fact, even though a native speaker may forget the spelling of some words, let alone a non-native speaker.

I have an electronic dictionary right on my desk since I use it so frequently. I used to be a horrible speller, but now that I've had these lovely electronic devices for over 10 years, I have actually gotten pretty good. When my coworkers need to know how to spell something, they'll just ask me.

Oxford Pocket Dictionary - I use to bring one of these during my college days.. I even found a classmate who brought the same reference material when it comes to word and grammar.. I really find using one more gratifying than just typing it and the words associated while you type the letters would come up.

There are even electronic dictionaries that came up but, they were too expensive and all I could do was install one on my mobile phone which was really convenient too.
I have this Concise Oxford Dictionary installed on our desk top and had it also installed on the other computers. I really verify some words I want to use with that application and it is really convenient. Firefox, as you have mentioned, has that feature wherein it underlines incorrect or improperly spelled words to catch your attention. For Internet Explorer users, they can install that Internet Explorer Pro Add-On so that it would also underline words that aren't spelled correctly. I still prefer the dictionary installed on our computer than those add-ons with Firefox or Internet Explorer. I use to really use a pocket dictionary to verify words that I want to use but, ever since I found out that my classmate had one on her lap top and got a copy, things got better

Thank you. Yours system and adaptation is really commendable. It help us to improve our command over the language we write and speak. Any body can commit mistake but the explorer prompt us to correct it. Thank you again.

Not really. I try to use words that I already know when I'm responding to discussions on here. Plus if you can't get the correct spelling, the box you're writing on has a spellchecker type of function. The word you spelled incorrectly will be underlined in red.

Although I sometimes read the dictionary just for enjoyment, which may seem weird to some people, lol, I usually don't spell-check what I'm writing at MyLot. If I have a dictionary close to me, I might grab it to get the correct spelling for something that I'm writing, but I usually don't care enough to write everything perfect, haha. As long as most people who read what I'm writing will be easily able to understand everything that I say, then I don't mind any spelling mistakes that I make.

Well, the main issue here in myLot is we have people on here from all over the world. There are many people who I am sure English is not a language they are familiar with, and so their English is often broken and sometimes hard to read as well. For me, even though I am from the USA, I find sites that judge like that, harder to be more active in. I feel that even if I am not the best writer there is, it is up to me to be a main critic. Yes I want to be a writer and will accept criticism as well if it is helpful, but let me learn from my mistakes instead of being so critical as well. Just my thoughts.

I find a dictionary very useful to have on hand - especially when it comes to spelling in my case. I am thankful for the spell check feature, though it does not always help. another handy device, which I sadly do not have one anymore, is a thesaurus.

I'm using the MF too which made writing sentences quite easy for me. MF checks spellings and other things in activities like this, and that is helpful, specially if you are not a native English speaker like su.

I have used the dictionary from time to time, but usually, I don't need one for posting responses. I am only a high-school graduate, but I went to school in a time when they actually taught people how to read and write. It seems to me like nowadays they pass children from one grade to another, even when they are marginally literate. I base this observation on the fact that my daughter, who is very literate, graduated from college last year. Well, I have seen several pieces of correspondence from some of her fellow college students which were barely legible. Misspellings, wrong word usage, improper punctuation; the whole nine yards. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a dictionary. I use one whenever I am in doubt about the spelling of a word. I also use a thesaurus very often. It is invaluable when using certain words. Both a dictionary and a thesaurus could be very helpful to people for whom English is a second language.

Well, I have never used a dictionary while on hee in mylot. My spelling is not all that great by all means. In a way I should have a dictionry by myside or by my computer sothat I can do a spell chec before pressing the sumit button. You have to relize also tht you have people that is on here from around the glob. A lot of these people do not speck english as their first language or may be just learning it. So you have to give them some slack for their spelling mistakes.

I consult dictionary while writing by using the encarta which is also very much helpful and useful to me. What i like most of it is that it also has a thesaurus that can elaborately explain what that word really means. Try it.

I think if you're not that confident in using English for writing then you really have to consult the dictionary. It has been a habit for me to look at the dictionary whenever I come across some words that are not familiar to me. Being a non-native speaker of the English language, I have exerted effort to polish my written and spoken English. I have Merriam-Webster on my favorites link so that I can consult it everynow and then. I also like hearing how the words are pronounced so that I can make sure the people I'm conversing with will understand me. This habit pays off, as I work with Americans most of the time and when I went to the US, I was confident in making conversations with them and they always say that I speak well.

I do use dictionary sometimes specially when I am writing important letters not only to correct the spelling but also to find specific meaning of the word. English is the first spoken language i the world and my first language is not English but I do try to make what I meant clearer as I can because like me other people that English is not their first language can get confuse. Thats why I use Dictionary for both spelling and to find easier word to understood.

I'm too lazy to consult a dictionary. Though my spellings are actually not bad...I do make typos sometimes when I am typing too fast and there are lots of things going on in my head....and when my thoughts/responses run faster than I can type. It's been ages since I checked a dictionary for myself....but I have started using it lately when my son comes to me with a doubt where I need to use it. I don't mind making a typo or tying a wrong spelling on mylot....but I don't want my son making mistakes when he takes homework back to school. I also am teaching him how to use the dictionary.

then a thesaurus might come in handy:) I use simple language too and try to stay away from the bid words even when I know them.

While writing a post, I make sure that it's simple and understandable to others. I skip the heavy words if I have any doubt about spellings to avoid the grammatical mistakes. I think the best we can do is to look for the synonyms of those words, which are very hard to spell.

If you are unsure of the spelling of the word you typed, you can check it out with the dictionary, there's nothing wrong with that.

I need net dictionary when I post every discussing. I am a english learner and I believe it is a necessary step to learn english. Perhaps I should bear in mind vocabulary at first, but I don't have the patient and diligence to do it. Net dictionary can make me learn a lot of popular words.

Well I do sometimes refer to dictionaries, whether it is online or a book for the correct spelling and terms or just translating from my language to english word. I think it is just common for non-english people to use an english dictionary coz some people are not fluent with english.
