We go to Tokyo2 when we're in the mall because I'm so in love with sushi. I enjoy eating eat using chopsticks but my mom and brother don't really know how to use it so they just stick one pc of the pair of chopsticks to the sushi or use a toothpick or fork just for them to have their share.
How about you? When you go to japanese restaurants or those that serve sushi. Do you know how to use chopsticks? And do you prefer using 'em?

Tell your mom and brother that stabbing the sushi with one chop stick is considered the ultimate in rude behavior. Better that they use there hands.

You know your family and how much advice they can handle. I would be mortified if I was eating with someone and they did that. It's perfectly ok to eat sushi with your hands. I wouldn't, but I don't even eat pizza or chicken with my hands.
This sushi thread made me go out and buy nori yesterday.I'm going to make some sushi as soon as I eat all the leftovers in the fridge.

I loooooveee sushi! I eat them with spoon if no chosticks is available, well at home only. But when I am in Tokyo2, I eat them with chopsticks. I know how to use them, but not perfectly. But I do love eating them using chopsticks.

I can use chopsticks, but I consider sushi to be finger food. I make sure my hands are nice and clean and rinse my fingers in between each piece. It seems to be pretty common among the Japanese clientele, so I don't feel so much like a pig when I do it! I do use chopstics for things like salads, etc.

Well sushis are designed to be eaten at one bite only. It means you take the whole thing inside your mouth. Well chopsticks are good for doing this but a fork cutting it is a big no-no for sushi lovers. You could use your hand but you should never cut it.

sometimes i took 2 bites just to avoid choking (especially the octopus sushi. coz they're chewy) and in case of those with wasabi on top, i take 2 bites so i could dip the sushi in soy sauce to tone down the hot wasabi
but i never use fork to cut it

at home, i just pick it up with my fingers and plop them in.. but outside, it adds to that japanese-ish ambience if you're using chopsticks when eating sushi... chopstick use needs practice... so be patient when using it.. n_n
by the way, i love tokyo2 sushi's! you're post made me hungry...

if i bought take away sushi i would eat them with my hand. if i go to sushi outlet i would use the chopstick. i'm fine with both. but i never use fork and spoon or toothpick to eat them.
maybe your mom and brother just need to know how to hold the chopstick right. hold the sticks the way you hold your pencil and pick the sushi up from the sides, not the top. apply just enough pressure to hold it or the rice bed will break

Yes and yes . I really enjoy sushi, and I always use chopsticks to eat them. I think it adds more to the experience, and for me, chopsticks aren't really that hard to use.

ya, i use chopsticks in the restaurant. It's not a problem for me to use chopsticks, since i'm a chinese. But i do use fingers to eat sushi at home, cos i didn't have chopsticks at home. But yesterday, i went to sushi king again and joined their membership, i got the chopsticks as a gift. ;-)

Using chopsticks to eat is more an oriental culture. Normally, I use chopsticks to eat shushi in restaurants, in our homes or any casual party, using our bare hand can be fun and we can eat more. Using chopsticks is being trained from young, so there is no fixed rule not to use chopsticks in eating shushi.

That's the only way I can eat sushi. I dip my sushi in soy sauce so I don't like to use my fingers. If I were to use a fork, the sushi will fall apart. It's easier to use chopsticks =)
