There are so many campaigns all over the world to stop piracy but alas all efforts to eradicate it seem to be futile as pirated thinhgs such as books, cd's, dvd's proliferate all over. i guess almost everyone nowadays had experinec buyibng pirated items or actually support or really opt to buy them because of the cheaper price. i personally do, yeah i am not so ahamed to admit because i think almost everybody is doing it. but it doeswn't mean that i have no respect to the creators or articst and authors. i would buy original stuff once in a while if i really want it and i have the budget. i think the reals solution to anti piracy is to eradicate poverty. as long as aome people are poor and prices are high, ways to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor would always bloom. how about you? what are your thoughts in this matter?

I do buy pirated cds and dvds, but its just because i got bored and want something to watch. Usually i find myself more in bad mood to watch the bad copies. LOL What do you expect from pirated? Low quality no doubt! But If its my favourite movies, I buy the original copies. I don't care about the prices, as long as they have it, and i have the money, i'll definitely buy them! I have tons of collections of original copies of my favourite movies. :)

I'm quite a law abiding person and hate being on the wrong side of it by buying fake or pirated material like books, CDs and all other fakes available at dirt cheap rates in the market. This is because of mainly two things, one is, you can't get the matching quality from pirated goods. Second, it would be unjust to the artists or producers, who have put in a lot of money to produce the movie or develop the software or write the book. In fact, I avoid to go to that area of markets where such pirated goods are sold.

Hello there misshoney, this is a good discussion, and in my country it is now illegal to possess or buy pirated dvd's and cd's. I guess it is pretty alright since I make it a point to download online movies nowadays, as done by another online friend of mine and I find that idea truly liking for me.
I have no personal vendetta against pirated stuffs, but just that the quality ain't that good and I have never really bought pirated stuffs ever since there has been a ban. I suppose watching movies is just so much fun (provided my budget for the month allows it) and watching online movies. That's my take on this topic.

i dont pay for pirated anything, so no, not "everyone is doing it" i will dl a single here n there to sample a cd. if i like it, i will go buy the cd. the only thing i guess would come close to "pirating" would be when i used to tape movies off of hbo or something with my vcr.. but thats perfectly legal so it still isnt piracy. and with the invention of dvd`s.. i dont do that anymore either, i just buy the dvd of the movies i wanna see.

[i]Sometimes, although we all know that its illegal
but due to the cheap price we are being tempted to
buy. There are also instances that I don't buy
because I'm worried if that will be a good one or
it will only hang me in the middle of the actions
because its not good or has defect.

But when i do go to my country i do buy a rack of them, but thats like every 5 years or so.

Sometimes I do because I cannot afford the actual album or I cannot find what I want on DVD or CD. I do not think that it is wrong to pirate things if you cannot really afford it and want to enjoy what other people are enjoying.

Yes, I do and they've been very good quality wise. I pay $2 per movie. The heck with celebrities. Make them more affordable! They make millions of dollars! And stop putting out whole DVDs with only one good song on them!

Well someone has found a way to get pirated dvd's and cd's on the internet by downloading them. They would probably say "Why buy something when you can get it for free." If the movie industry isn't charging so high then there would be less pirating.

When it comes to movies, I try my best to buy originals for titles that I really want. I always check movie reviews, ratings, and discussions online to help me decide in buying. As for music CDs, I'm the loyal type who has a few favorite artists. If I like just one song of a whole CD, I might just download the song off the net.
I totally agree that one of the solutions to piracy is to eradicate poverty. Since we're both from the Philippines, I see that we have the same standpoint. Some of our fellow countrymen earn only around 50 a day (which obviously isn't even enough for the day) while original DVD's and CD's cost around 75 upto 1000 for single titles. Music CD's mostly 400. If I were the poor person, I think I'd opt for pirated software because I'd put my basic necessities as priority first.

A good discussion, well my thought for that matters are: it is only a nature and we find most do, nowadays poverty seem so bad and because of it most of us now looking for a cheaper price. So that we can save more, just like now, if we buy some dvds take for example, compare to department store, original dvd cost times 10 than the side walk's price, we mean it, and we personally do it, thats ok, cause vendors of this pirated items are all like us, we need some lower price and when we buy their item i could help them for their lives and we can save so. Not just poor people bought pirated but also rich people, neither of us bought it.lol we can say so cause some of my rich friend bought pirated item.hehehe they did it. Thats all i can response to this discussion.

I must admit I used to buy pirated DVD's before and that was years ago. But I came to realize that why should I spend my money on crappy copies that'll eventually wear out and get damaged when I can save that money to buy an original one. The price would be double but the guarantee of the product is way good. Comparing pirated copies to original copies is kind of absurd. Anyway, I think prices really are the issue. Even though some would like to buy original copies, they still opt for the cheaper and affordable ones for financial reasons. Maybe they can work out the prices on everything. If that's even possible.

Nope..I do not. That's illegal and the people that have thse copyrighted have the only rights to sell them and make thier profit.
If everyone was jumping off a cliff. would you? Bottom line..this is illegal and I would NOT buy any pirated item.

I try to avoid buying pirated DVDs and CDs. I've rarely gotten an illegal copy of a quality comparable to an original copy, and I don't understand paying $6 for a crappy copy when I can just go to the used shop and get an excellent, warranteed copy for the same or less.
