If I saw a ghost I would need a cuddle

I am a bear of exceedingly small brain. But I have started to think about ghosts and spirits. I am open minded about such things. I have spent the night alone in haunted houses and seen and felt nothing, and slept in modern "ordinary" places and felt distinctly uncomfortable. I tire of shows that purport to "investigate" paranormal happenings, but are largely just an excuse for superannuated teenagers to scream and feign fear. I don't want to be convinced either way. But are there such things as ghosts? How do you know? Should I worry about them?

"I don't believe in spooks. I don't believe in spooks. I don't believe in spooks."
LOL I spend too much time watching cartoons.
But in all seriousness I don't believe in ghosts. I don't know if they exist and I am happy not knowing. Like you, if I were ever to be convinced of their existence I too would need a cuddle....and maybe a nice bottle of brandy.

If ghosts are real then you shouldn't worry about them. You should worry about poltergeists though! I wonder what that means exactly. Geist is German for ghost. Polter means lots of things including "bumble", "rumble", "bluster", "celebrate" and "skelter" (as in helterskelter) so I suppose poltergeist is "rumbling ghost" or something like that.
Anyway, back to the question. I am unsure of ghosts for reasons of pure logic however, I (and some other family members) have had some "episodes". There are certain places we have felt uncomfortable and one of my sister's says she has actually seen ghosts so that would give me reason to believe they are real.
I don't think there is any reason to worry about them. As far as I know, they don't hurt but it might depend on who they were in life because there was a place where neither myself nor my sister wanted to go around without a male presence (very unusual for us). It turned out that the place was supposedly haunted by a man who hated women so far as to be thought to have killed several. I must say, I did not like that experience.
Then there was the "feeling" that made my sister uneasy going up the stairs of our former home. Now, I don't want to say too much in case I sound accusatory but no one seems to know what happened to the owners husband, we never looked in the attic and this was where sis was most uneasy. There was also a bad smell which we could never get rid of even after thorough cleaning after moving out. There were also strange sort of grease marks on some walls after we moved. This makes sense in the kitchen but these marks were on the living room wall the opposite end of the house from the kitchen and all that we had had there were cupboards and a TV - you don't get grease marks from those.
So anyway, ghosts or not, there is something even if it's only some sort of 6th sense where people just know things have happened or are going to happen and perhaps "see" images which coincide with events.

As you know, I'm 'the sister' that Pumpkin's referring to. I hated going into my oldest nephews room (which was right next to the attic entrance), I felt a little mean telling him I didn't want to go in his room, but I was quite wary of it. I honestly wouldn't have wanted to spend any time up there on my own.

We never painted the walls but I did try to scrub the greasy stuff off and I couldn't. The spookiest thing being that upon thinking I had cleaned one mark (I could only do it one streak at a time) it was still there.
I never even noticed the marks until after we had moved the furniture out of the living room. Understandable where there were cupboards, etc but I also saw these marks near a door where no furniture had been kept. My first thought was that they had been made by pushchair wheels when I'd perhaps leaned the pushchair against the wall the wrong way but you don't get grease marks from pushchair wheels and I never put the pushchair behind the bookshelf or TV.
I have thought about what could have caused the marks and, considering where they were, there is nothing which could have caused them.

Goodness Pumpkin how peculiar. I can imagine that it must have been spooky if you didn't like going to that place except with a male. Your old house sounds interesting too. I wonder what made those grease marks. Did they come through even after painting over? I know a woman who went to a girl's boarding school. Every sunday they had to sit in the library and write letters home to their parents. She said that the girls often saw books being pulled from the shelves by unseen hands and thrown about! She is quite a religious woman and not given to fanciful sightings.

Where you are, everything is so old, ghosts must abound!! And I'm so jealous! I think that most ghosts aren't to be feared, they're just poor souls who haven't yet moved on, but I also believe that there are very malevolent spirits out there too, and those we have to beware of. Big subject for so late at night, p1key. Are you watching a paranormal tv show or something? Hear something go bump? Feeling the hair on the back of your neck stand up? Getting a chill where there shouldn't be one? Am I creeping you out? lol, probably, sorry. Don't worry about them, darling, you're too sweet a soul for them to ever think about doing any harm to you, so take the cuddles I know you're being offered here, snuggle them against your heart, and think about going and getting some sleep. It's late. Don't make me chastise you for staying up too late. You have a commitment tomorrow at your ghost-filled cathedral. They're waiting for you. Wooooooooo ooooooo oooooo. Sweet dreams, lil p1key. I wuv you. Everyone does. How could they not? Even the ghosts do. They're probably giving you little kisses right now.

Hi LJ. I forgot about that. But no, I haven't done that yet. I forgot all about it, to tell you the truth. But I've decided that all the things I catch out of the corner of my eye, that I KNOW aren't my cats, just must be ghosts. And I don't have a tape recorder either, dammit. But - if I ever do get hold of one, I intend to put it on when I'm not home and see what comes up. Or put it on at night and see what happens too. Very interesting subject. Did you see Ellie's post about the happenings at her house, LJ? Now THAT'S a hell of a story!!! Seriously, if you haven't seen it, look it up. It'll make a believer out of anyone, I think.

P1key..i know you are probably asleep so don't get scared if i sneak under the blanket and say BOO!..lol..
I love reading about these things and not much into the movies so I prefer to experience it myself with real stories..but i do believe but don't think they are mean..just confused since they were alive one moment then they can't get a relative to understand them..so things may fall and move..not to scare but to let the person know a loved one is near...

I'll move over a little. You may have the space that I warmed. Now, I try to be open minded. I believe that anything is possible and I certainly believe that we move on to something else. But what I don't know. Now have you ever done this.......... Nice isn't it?

I don't know what they are, but there are definitely inexplicable entities. Like you, I've been to allegedly haunted locations (never spent the night in one, though) and haven't felt anything untoward. However, I know what I've seen and felt on other occasions, and can't deny there was 'something'. One night, on coming out of our ensuite in the dark, I walked headlong into what can only be described as a solid black mass. At first I thought my husband was on his way in - but then I saw him across the room, still fast asleep in bed. Whatever the 'mass' was, it dissolved (for want of a better explanation) almost immediately. I am also positive I saw a young man in an old-fashioned sailor uniform, reflected in a mirror in a small cottage my husband and I rented just prior to getting married. This was somehow made worse by my husband admitting the house made him feel as if someone was watching us - after I'd told him and expected him to laugh. On many occasions I find a strange indent in the middle of our neatly made bed in the middle of the day - though we don't have cats or anyone else in the house but me. So I'd never say never. (And I always put the sheet over my head when I'm sleeping ...)

Never say never. I do so agree. I have had experiences of deja vu at places that I've never been to before. But I have never knowingly seen or sensed a ghost. That indent is interesting. Could it be a ghost pet that you have owned previously. Sailors in mirrors is pretty spooky. Perhaps he lived there and was killed in the War?

My Dad thinks the bed indent is the mattress settling during the day - but it's too obvious for that. And some days it doesn't happen - other days it might happen several times, and I smooth it out each time I pass. The sailor incident really scared me. We were living in a little old rented cottage, and sleeping on a mattress on the floor. There was a big old dresser in the room with a mirror. My husband was out, and I'd dozed off - but woke up when I heard a noise in the living room (which was adjacent to the bedroom) and when I got up, I looked in the mirror and saw a reflection of the open fire in the living room through the door. The sailor was standing in front of it. He was only there for a brief time, and seemed just as shocked to see me as I was to see him. It still gives me the chills thinking about it - but someone suggested recently that maybe the sailor (in HIS time), saw ME (in MY time) and there'd been some weird time warp. Fascinating - but horrible.

I believe in spirits. My grandmother has visited me a couple of times since she has passed. I'm not scared b/c its my grandmother and I know she is just checking up on me. There was a spirit who use to talk to me when I was younger. I never seen it but it would call my name and no one was there. No I wasn't going crazy. Then one day I said I am not afraid of you and it just stopped. It was like someone was always watching me. I think just about everyone in my family has seen something.

Oh I also wanted to add that I walked in my bedroom while my husband was sleeping and there was a white figure watching over him as he slept. I had to do a double take. It was peaceful so I just took it as being his gaurdian angel since I pray to them alot and ask them to watch over my family. He said once when he was driving that it felt as if someone was sitting in the seat next to him and that day I was praying alot for someone to watch over him since he was working late and very sleepy.

I don't go for those stupid shows either.
But I believe in ghosts because I have seen them.
Well, maybe I watch Ghost Whisperer, yep, I like that one. But not those silly Blair Witch shows about fear. Nope, not me.
I don't think you need to worry. Just because they walk among us doesn't mean they are mean spirits. You would know if there were any mean spirits around you and there are people you can call to eradicate them and help them move on.

Are there such things as ghosts? Yes, I believe there are. How do I know? I have one in my house. A for being worried....I guess that would just depend on the spirit.
Spirits don't bother me. If they want to reside in my house, as long as they behave themselves, they are welcome. I have seen and felt spirits all my life, and I cannot remember one that was sinister, wicked or evil.

This particular spirit has never taken shape for me. She is a little girl. I know, if I don't see her, how do I know. It is just a sense I get from her. The things she does are very much like a small child. I don't know if my daughter has seen her or not. She told me one day that there was a little girl in her room. Like I said, I don't know if she saw her or just sensed her the way I did.
If you come to haunt my house someday, just make sure you behave yourself. I don't allow naughty spirits.*L*

I have never experienced anything that would lead me to believe in ghosts. That is me personally. However my friend was living in the house of my mother-in-law whom my mother-in-law did not like and my friend told me that when she and her husband would go to bed at night that the pots and pans in the kitchen would start moving around she heard the refrigerator door open and close and all different kinds of noises. She said when her husband and her decided to move was when they locked the front door when they went to bed. Now they had even put the deadbolt on and when they got up in the morning the door was wide open. That was it they decided they would just move. The funny thing about it was that the people who lived there after my friend and her husband moved out never had nothing happen at all like what they were going through. So who knows about the world of the people who have passed on before us.

Hi p1,
I guess we have around..lol! but, not everyone will feel it and will hear them or will see them!
In the family, I am the only one who have seen 2 strange persons in the place where we are renting..Ohh.. I remember my sister also one time, she did!
I know because I hear and see! but, since they don't scare me, like they are just passing, I am not scared at all but I can't deny that there are times where my skin I feel a little bit uneasiness!![](/Content/images/emotes/thumbup.gif)

Yes, I believe in ghosts and spirits and things that go bump in the night. I have lived in two homes that were inhabited by something that was not living. I could go into many details, but just take my word for it that there is a world beyond ours and sometimes its friendly and sometimes its not. I have not seen a ghost, but I have felt their presence and seen some of the mischief that they can get up to. I believe, I really do.....

Oh hello winnie, I thought you were someone else for a minute. I cannot answer your question for you as I am not entirely sure of the answer. I envy you staying in haunted houses, I would love nothing more than to go on a ghost hunt, and who knows when the kids are older maybe I will get my wish.
I have been intrigued with this kind of thing from a young age, fascinated with it all. But I am very skeptical and yet I have witnessed a lot of things that are strange, even in the house I am in now things happen that have no rational explanation to them yet I still question it and tell myself I am imagining things. I think that even if I saw a ghost materialise I would still try and tell myself there was an explanation! But if we were in the same room and we saw a ghost then it would not just be you needin a cuddle, and I would hope that you had strong arms because I would probably be jumpin into them LOL.

you are correct that you should not worry about those ghost. it is better that we don't just say that those things don't exist. and if they do, we should not really be bothered by them. we should continue to live normally. cause thinking about their existence whether true or not, will not going to give any benefit to us. cause they will not make our lives better. there are so many documentaries about those ghost sightings and etc. though i do believe in them . i don't do ghost hunting. i just want to focus my energy and thoughts on reality and continue living.

Nope. I don't believe there are ghosts of any sort anywhere. I have also spent the night in a supposed haunted house...I got nothing. I have never seen or heard anything that would cause me to change my opinion on the matter. I still enjoy a good ghost story though. lol
