Have you ever thought why India performs so dismal in any Olympics. Only abhinav has won a gold medal. I think its his personal effort only. No hopes are there for India. I do not know why, In a country of bullion, for 4 consequtive time, we are contended with just a medal. No steps are taken also. why only indians palyers do all the faults?

It is the typical Indian mentality. We need someone else to be honest, someone else to be a martyr, someone to get medals for India, someone else to be not corrupted. It is never ourselves. We are very good at shrugging off our responsibilities and passing the buck.Have you ever heard of a young person getting angry at our dismal performance in Olympics, got motivated, worked day and night to become a great Sportsperson. What they do is to laugh at the performance of others and go to the matinee show. What else do you expect us to get in Olympics?

Hi, just when you were thinking we won't, we have WON!! One more, a bronze from Sushil kumar in wrestling! Well, we won in cricket too!
But what is a bit disappointing is that the boxers who aroused so much hopes by stunning performances in the earlier rounds are bowing out one by one with dismal defeats.

You are lucky that you already have a medal... and a gold one too... the last time my country won an olympic medal... was i think in 1996... that was in boxing... and it wasn't even gold... but a silver medal... right now we only have the two taekwondo athletes who will fight today... i hope they win one for the Philippines... at this point... a bronze medal will do...

Hi Subha.. i can't say that the steps are not taken, or there is lack of potential.. but the thing is the steps taken are not implemented with the fullest motive of improving the potential but rather to fill the coffers of the officials and the planning personalities concerned..

The thing is not about players... there are so many players in india in each and every field... What fails is their training...
Can you imagine ... why 1 person from america Michael Phelps gets 8 medals in one olympics... and India has not got that many medals in olympics ever...
Thats not about the player... the people behind and around the player...
Anyways.. hoping that India.. win more medals in the future....^_^

hello subha12 I think you are right. Really it is matter of great shock that country like India having a population of more than 100 crores can not produce a player who can earn a gold medal in the olympic. I think for the same we Indians as well as our bureaucratic system are responsible. We have no future plans . Countries like Chiana, and other foreign countries preparing their players from the closure of last olympic games and during these four yrs they trained vigorously their player to the standard who can compete and earn gold medal. Lack of planning, preparation, resources etc. are the main hurdles for us. Thanks to Abhinav who atleast make us proud. Govt should think about the same. We have the potentiality, we have better skill than others.

Congratulation to your country at least you take home a medal. Not just a medal but a gold medal. Sadly, Beijing Olympic is nearly to end but our country never won any single medal. Well, winning is not the only motive of this even. But the main spirit of the Olympic is to unite people and races around the globe.

There is no shortage of talent...There should be a talent hunt for all sports.. then the government should look for good sponsors,...have reality shows ( just like STAR VOICE OF INDIA)
Then , they should promote the top five..give them all facilities , and good professional training for at least two years in advance...
When this selected people will perform . I think you can expect positive results...

Subha, in our country we are giving importance only to cricket. This situation should change. We should encourage all games. Then only, we can achieve more in international sports.

Subha, Keep Hopes In India...and our Athletes.... This Time Atleast we have gold Better than a Silver Last Time and a Bronze two occation in 2000 and 1996. Anyways yesterday we lost one hope of Medal with Akhil Kumar crashing out. But Still we can count on Vijender and Jithender are in Quater final. if any one of them wins meens a Bronze medal for sure bacause in Boxing both the Looser from Semifinals will recieve Bronze medals... If they too Fails then There is Always.... A NEXT TIME for US... 'If You dont try for It... You Wont Win It..' So Keep rying...
Hope My Response Make Some Sense. Thank You.

i think it's not only india.. also the Philippines.. the government lacks support to those who will represent in the olympics.. the last i remember was "onyok" for boxing.. he won a silver medal before.. other than that, i can't remember anymore.
i think the training and the equipment matters.. rigid preparation is vital

Subha, The medal that Abhinav won made us all feel proud and give us that confidence that yes we can be on the top too. It's sad that this seems to be the only one. I hope that all the concerned bodies and the govt wakes up to this and gives the right encouragement and support to all the sports disciplines. There is so much of talent in this country and I'm sure we can do much better.

it is because of lack of preparation i guess. country like china are spending so much of money on players for grooming them from childhood. some athlete are training more than a decade.but the story in india is totally different. we are talking about medals during the olympics time only. we will forget all things after this olympic. Again we will start in next olympics..
