how your parents choose your first name?

Did your parents tell you how they chose your first name? maybe named after a relative. or maybe a singer or actor.
as for me, when my mum was pregnant with me, she was almost due and was watching this film about a little girl named Mandy whom was deaf and blind, soon after she goes into labour..
At that time she thought of mandy as only a nickname of amanda and didn't think she could put mandy on birth certificate (she was wrong though lol ) so it become Amanda..
She loved the film, little sad and happy with such a sweet girl and her struggles to be able to communicate.. with no hearing or sight.. Makes us appreciate what we have.
and so i always been called mandy since birth
I did this discussion because i wanted to tell mylotters how I got my name, after the last discussion i did, saying about my real name being Amanda

I was named after a famous country singer,Tanya Tucker, my first name is Tanya :)It was my mom's favorite singer of all time, she used to sing me delta dawn by her when I was little. She still sings it when i ask her to even though I'm a lot older lol.

thats a nice story and i think tanya is a really nice name due to singer or not.. short and sweet and cant be changed so easily by others.. like to know how you got your mylot name now haha.. maybe you responded to my other discussion about that? lira is Turkish money

my parents had two choices for my name, the first one is Dominique and the second one is Diamond..they chose diamond... when i asked them, they said because its precious and unique.. they just chose it out of the blue, that's all.

I wish i had a more exciting story but i was only named after a soap opera character. The soap opera is called the Young and the Restless, not that i dont really like my name, it is just kind of weird knowing that you are named after someone on TV. By the way, I love your story (it is a lot better and more interesting than mine )

thank you, well i wanted to explain how come my name is amanda and mandy hehe.. To a foreigner they seem totally different names. And i do like way i got my name about the only sentimental thing my mum as done.. i am surprised i wasn't named after a soup opera, my mum was addicted to them..

My name is a combination of my father and mother's names. my first name is frances. a lot of people mistake my name as that of a guy's. but i'm really a girl.

thats strange because i do think of it as feminine name.. And you use it as your mylot name my last discussion was about how you come to make your mylot name and i thought so interesting
