How do you like Windows Vista? Do you have the Premium or the basic. I understand there is also a higher grade than Premium, Ultimate, not sure of the name. I have heard that the Basic is terrible, but I have heard various opinions on the Premium. How is yours working for you? How long did it take you to get used to it? I prefer XP but I know that won't be priority much longer since MS is all but forcing us to go to Vista.

This is the 8th time i am trying to use vista. This time i have installed ultimate version. Since now i am not playing games it is working fine for me. The start is faster & also shut down. ANd programs are also opening faster. The only problem i face now is some programs require permission which is very annoying. Also the defender is making a problem for me. I can not find a way to disable it.

Your story is what I am afraid of. That is scary. I have heard that some software programs won't work well with Vista. I have heard the Ultimate is supposed to have more stuff than the Premium but I have not really seen any computers on sale with it.

Don't be afraid. If you are intending to use vista then go for ultimate or premium. These two are better in my opinion. And the feature thing you can customize it later. Also for softwares now most of the softwares are available for vista. At first there was a problem not now.

Yes I like Vista It is running just fine for me. I personally have the Business version of Vista, It took me about 2 days to get use to the Vista Business Yes you can no longer buy XP Microsoft did away with it back in June no longer selling on new computers or NIB (New in Box) it that respect they are forcing us to take vista but then they did the same thing with 95 to 98, 98 to 2000, 2000 to XP, etc Every OS has problems when it first comes out and just have to give them the chance to fix those problems

Well what happens is the Beta testers test out everything they use and not what the ordinary person might use so when it is out for open release there is problems with it. You might use Coral Office for your work program and the Beta Testers use MS Office MS Office has no problems and Coral Office does Also when you have a program that shuts down do you send the info to Microsoft? If you do that is good as that helps them fix the problems that are found if you dont then how can you expect the problems to be fixed.

That is good. Do you know what is different in the Business one vs the Premium or Ultimate? You are right about the previous os's I had 98, 2000, and xp. Some people still think that 2000 was the better one. You are right that every os has problems at first but why do we have to be the "lab rats"? LOL.

I have a windows vista home premium for a little over a year, and it works great. I would say it took me about a week to learn how to use it. There are still some areas that I haven't even gone into yet.

I know I won't be much help to you since I am not good with dealing computers and all they are about. I just sign on and go about my merry ole way. hahaha I do have XP still on my desktop and on my newer laptop it come with Vista. I have the Home Premium. It did take some getting used to. One thing I did to make it easier for me, I went and changed the looks of windows to the classic look, it makes it feel more like "Home" to me that way and easier for me to get around doing things.

First of all I would like to tell that MS is not forcing us to go for Vista. Release of XP SP3 is a proof for that. Coming to Vista, I have Ultimate loaded in my system. Initially I was annoyed with that, but after installing SP1 I am coming to terms with Vista and now I am liking it even better

You say they are not forcing us to Vista but I find it very hard to find a new computer with windows XP anymore and believe me I did look when shopping for a laptop. I even ask if I could get it with xp and was told no, it only come with vista.

Most of the ones I have seen have Premium, do you think the Ultimate is better or worse?Man, there are a lot of horror stories. I really don't know why MS decided to dump XP, most people I know liked it. But the powers that be have decreed it will go away and very soon we will not even get support for it.
