My favourite book is Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, the story enthralls me, it's wonderfully dark but romantic at the same time - a timeless classic! Even having to study it for my English literature A level a few years ago didn't put me off it! DO you have any books that you love and can read over and over again? What's you're favourite book you've ever read and why? xx

i can't think of an out and out fav as i have a fair few in my collection although i remember reading Burial (graham masterton) as a kid and really thinking what a difference a fantastic author made. His discription of the events (mainly pulling the insides outside in particular) were just so good i barely had to imagine. Think that was the stage i went off teen books and onto adult (even though i was still at primary school i was always mature and had been reading since i was little). I must read it again sometime to see if i still enjoy it as much. I have the majority of Richard Laymon books i re read his all the time when i'm out of things to read and James patterson i'm collecting his aswell.

hiya chick! sounds like you're a right bookworm! it'd be interesting to see if you still thought the same about it now as you did when you were a child! I still occasionally read the first book i can remember properly reading and it takes me right back to my childhood every time, it's a nice feeling!!! xxx

hehe i can't read two books at the same time, i end up getting confused!! haha am a simple creature!! i always loved reading as a child and probably read a lot more than a lot of my friends, i wasn't all that popular as i was the fat kid in the class so it was a bit of an escape for me to be able to go into another place through my imagination and reading a book! I always did read loads and loads but i had a bit of a, well let's call it a wobble!, a few months ago and since then i have had difficulty on concentrating on things for long periods of time which is frustrating so i've not read so much recently! am getting better at it though, am reading a novel which is like and autobiography of elizabeth I at the moment which i'm really enjoying!! xxx

oh yeh i am i've tried to cut down cos i waste to much time trying to multi task i'm usually trying to read at he same time lol. My mom had me reading from a young age because she taught my dad and saw how he struggled and i think it hit a nerve plus she missed her calling in life she should have been a librarian. Shes outread the library i would reckon she reads one a day shes mad. I usually have 2 on the go at the same time. One upstairs one down helps me relax and makes me feel less anxious when i can't sleep. Yeh i think mum still has my copy i'll have to ask and give it ago see if its still the same.

It's hard to narrow it down to just one book, because there are several that I love enough to re-read several times. I can give you a short list.
First, when I was a teenager I absolutely loved John Christopher's Tripods trilogy, a rattling good action/adventure story about resistance to an alien invasion. I don't know how many times I re-read them, but I never got bored with them. Somewhere along the line I lost possession of the though, so I didn't read them for years as an adult. I had a spot of luck at a Cult TV convention late last year though, I saw all three of the original trilogy plus the sequel on sale second hand, so I bought them and re-read them, and I found that I loved them just as much as when I was a kid - but this time I saw deeper levels to what was going on.
The novel I came to as an adult that I most love is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. This is a massive book, roughly 1,000 pages, but each page loaded with ideas. When I first read it, it confirmed and clarified a lot of my own feelings about how life works, the nature of morality etc. I've re-read it once or twice since then, and I don't suppose it'll be long before I read it again. Looking back, it was probably a key part of my evolution to my current political outlook (libertarian).
Given my obsession with space travel, my third choice would have to be the first astronaut autobiography I ever read, which is Seize the Moment by Helen Sharman. This describes how she was selected and trained to be the first British astronaut to make it into space, and what it was like to spend a week on board Mir. I've read that at least a couple of times.

Cheers Munchkin.
I've got to admit that I've yet to read Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, but I do like Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush:

Sounds as though you do a lot of reading! It's good that you were able to reread the books of your childhood again and not only enjoy them but were able to see parts of them from a new perspective, that must have been really good for you!! xxx

Wind in the Willows Munchkin. I grew up on the banks of the Thames and swam, sailed, canoed and rowed in and on it. I like to read it in winter in bed. I pull the duvet up and start to read about Ratty, Mole, Badger and TOAD! I even have mental images for where various events took place. In fact the book was written about five miles down stream of where I lived. I am not good at boy/girl romance I am afraid. I have read most of Jane Austen's works, but little of the Bronte's i am afraid. You'll have to convert me.

Maybe I will try to read it. I am sure that my girls here will have a copy somewhere. I read the Borrowers at school. I thought that it was set in a house. But it was a school was it? I am pretty convinced that we have small people here. We seem to lose everything!

My favourite book I guess has to be the other boleyn girl, I could read this book over and over. It is beautifully written, and is a fantastic look into what life was like in the tudor period.

I have not watched the movie, I tend not too if I have read the book or if I know that there is a book out. I would much rather read the book.
I have read "the other boleyn girl" "the boleyn inheritance" and I am currently reading " the constant princess" and they are all great. Not sure how many other books there are in the tudor section though. I love historical novels too, and I intend to read as many of philippa Greggory's as I can, she has a new one coming out I believe soon. I have never heard of sarah dunn but I will look out for her now that you have mentioned she does similar writing.

i think there are a few more in the tudor series, it's difficult to remember because i've read so many now and i pass them on to my mum as soon as i've finished with them!! hehe there are a few authors out there who write similar types of novel, jean plaidy is another one, she was writing them in the 1950s i think but they're still just as good now!! The film is worth watching as long as you take it for what it is and don't expect to much, i do like a bit of a costume drama though!! probably not something many people of my age would agree with but nevermind! xxx

I am in agreement with you, the other boleyn girl is a fantastic book, much better than the film, i read the book first and was a bit disappointed when i watched the movie! i love historical novels and have read pretty much all of phillipa gregory's books! Sarah Dunn is another author that writes similar books! you have good taste girl!! xxx

Mine's surely Lord Of The Rings.
I love all the environment that Tolkien created.. It's so detailed that you think that it's world is real!
And, considering that it's a HUGE book, but it's interesting from the beginning to the end, I'm really sure about choosing this book as the best that I've read.

The Alchemist of author Paulo Coelho. It's a great life-affirming story about a shepherd and the worlds great mysteries.
It made me think a lot more about how I saw at the world in my weekdays. Great story that's certain.

i am starting to like the books of francine pascal.. i love the fearless series by francine pascal..i love the stories of each book, it just nice and easy to read...and i can relate to the way the author writes the story, because of the dialouge she is using (realistic), overall, its a nice book for teens, and also adults...

My favorite book is The gift.. um i forgot the author though.. I'm into romance novels so the story is about an arranged marriage between two clans to have their clans stop fighting. The main characters were married at a very young age meaning the girl was 4 and the guy was 14... it's hilarious and it was a historical romance so anyways i love that book i'm still asking my aunt to give me the book with an extra dose of puppy dog eyes... x)

I love books and love to read. My favorite book of all time is The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck. Probably, I love the book as much as the situation at the time of discovery. I was in the 6th grade when my teacher suggested the book. A favorite teacher - a favorite book.
Another book that comes to mind is The Secret Life of Bees. A more recent read, but a really good book. Hope this inspires some of you to try these two books.

My favourite book of all time is "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" by Richard Bach. It is a short story about a seagull that chooses to ignore the standard behaviours of other gulls and rather than spend his life fighting for food and merely surviving, he chooses to master flight. By doing this he is ostracized from his family and disgraced in the eyes of his flock but ultimately ends up experiencing pure perfection and finding others like himself. I love this book because it is inspiring with a simple message that we must all aim for something more than normality! If you have never read it I suggest you do! It takes all of a couple of hours to read and I have read it myself many, many times and never get bored of it.

i am not really into reading books especially the long ones.. i prefer pictures.. hehehe... but once we had this novel reading in our english class and we were required to read a book.. i bought Amy Tan's Hundred Secret Senses, because i like the colorful cover. i was intrigued by the plot which involves a story of reincarnation among the characters.. I came to like it and so i started to buy some novels after that one. so my favorite book is Hundred Secret Senses by Amy Tan..
