My friend PC was infected by Anti Virus 2009 but I could not sure yet how to
fix this.
Do you know some informations how to fix this issue?
He couldn't use or access to any internet site and he is prompting to register
his anti virus 2009 software which he mistakenly click the update button when
and alert pop-up the time he is surfing the net.
My advise to him is to do a System Restore. Would you think it will work?
Please advise.

reinstall the whole system again, format your hard drive and let an antivirus check your documents and software (that you've made a backup) from another non infected system.. It's strange how antiviruses don't detect these viruses.. I had the same problem.. I get rid of that problem by doing what I'm telling you to do.. hope this helps..

I have never trusted in Windows System Restore.. because it never restore my system.. I used to use GoBack to restore my system, but I realize that consumes too much space, so when I have a problem and can't be solved by googling I just start all over again..

Its a virus by itself and you are right that its not released by Microsoft. Its released by some hackers who just wants to make people worry and scratch their heads with slow computers. This virus continuously loads .gif and .jpg files on your computer. If your computer is infected with it, trying seeing the task manager and processess tab. You"ll see many strange files loading and then slowing the computer.
I tried installing Threatfire but no good results. You cannot restore your computer as it blocks system restoration. The only solution according to me is to format your hard disk, install Windows again. I have installed NOD32 (Registered) now and I didn't have any problem since.
Never install a anti-virus saying over internet "Scan your computer found threats or virus". Its a virus by itself.

You shouldn't have installed it in the first place, but just uninstall it using an uninstaller or manually remove it from both the registry and the file system. There are some programs available to clean your registry, so just delete the anti-virus poser and run a registry cleaner.

I think System Restore should work, but he should have a good restore point prior to the installation of the said program. You can try running Hijackthis and post the log on some reputable site for analization. Last option would be reformat the whole system but it surely take some time especially if he has may important documents on his pc.

Yes, I had this problem also. I did several runs with my McAfee that is free with AOL. it did not seem to help much I, uninstalled That antivirus2009 several times. Then I upgraded my McAfee to one that comes with an antispyware program and suddenly it was gone. I did try those antispyware things, but they do want you to buy to fix things. So I figured if I were going to lay out money it might as well be with McAfee.

i've also experienced the same problem. Antivirus 2009 suddenly istalls itself, i didn't even know where that came from. Its a fake antivirus that produced results of scanned files on your system infected by spywares.. It lures you to purchase their products.. ..
But when my PC was infected, i could surf the net, what could be the problem of your friend's PC.. i did'nt tried System Restore.. There was an instruction in the internet on the removal of Antivirus 2009.. I couldn't remember all the instructions since it involves deleting of some folders installed by the antivirus, killing the processes that uses it, unabling it on startup and deleting some entries on the registries.. sorry...
I reformatted my PC and installed a lot of genuine anti-spywares that are free
you could install lots of free genuine antivirus like Spybot, SuperAntispyware and a lot more.. be sure to update them though..

HEy, I too was a victim of that Antivirus 2009. It can't be uninstalled. I deleted the file containing that antivirus 2009. After that, everytime I will turn off my computer, instead of shutting down, it would be restarted. I uninstalled my Avira because it can't detect the virus and then I install AVG. Luckily, avg detected the virus and I don't have to reformat my computer because that antivirus 2009 was succesfully removed by AVG. I hope it could help you. You can do it.

Sounds like Horton syndrome. You see, some Virus protection programs make their own viruses so you will buy it again or pay them more money to "upgrade" it. Uninstalling Antivirus might help. or you could install a new one, like shaw secure or Mcafee and get them to get rid of it.

Usually after system restore there still will be some things left behind. I am a 'neat' guy so i prefer to format my comp.
