Ugh, I hate myspace. hehe. Anyway, I think your numbers are wrong. I think it could be below 90% since I've known a lot of Filipinos who have double or triple accounts in friendster. And some even have their baby's account, and some their dog's. Not to mention group accounts.

That's the problem with friendster also because they don't limit their member, unlike other social networks that monitors it. Some only allow one user per IP address to limit spamming. Friendster is the most visited community network here in the Philippines, while abroad, they use facebook.

Yes, I've noticed that too. hehehe I don't think it's fair to the Filipinos to have the IP address locked to one account. Most Filipinos still doesn't have their own computers. And it's already a luxury if they have one at home (that is internet connected), but that means that the family members have to share it. As for the others, they go to internet cafes just to access the internet.

well, i'm not part of the 90% of filipinos who visit friendster. i don't even have an account there. never had one, never will have. i don't have plans of socializing with people i know through the internet. i can do that well in person you know? lol! anyway, when friendster first came out, my then ex-girlfriend kept on insisting on opening up an account for me, i didn't let her. at that time, friendster and those that have accounts there, in my opinion were people with very low self esteem, i think that is still the case now. lol! if a person needs a fancy profile page to make friends, then that person in my opinion, isn't worth keeping as a friend at all. lol! just my thoughts. oh yes, i do have social networking accounts but only in those that pay its members to keep an account with them. call me callous but i prefer money over friends. let's face it, if you have no money you have no friends but even though you got no friends, you can always have lots and lots of money.

I think your perception of friendster is a bit wrong. Not everyone in friendster made an account to make new friends, accepting strangers to their list. Although most Filipinos use friendster that way, I know of some who uses friendster to keep connected to old friends. I am one of them. I don't have a single friend in friendster whom I don't personally know. Although some of them I haven't seen in ten years or so, but still they are my friends. And since they are my friends, I don't think it matters to them if I keep a nice layout or profile on my account, because if it did, then I don't think they are worth keeping as friends after all if they let something stupid like that decide if we're friends or not.

Obviously this is true. We are not Myspace lovers because Myspace is filled with Americans. America:Myspace while Philippines:Friendster.

*lol* I actually am one of the few people who *DON'T* have a Friendster account by choice, considering that I've been practically *living* on the internet since I was 14. I mean, it should be *fun*, otherwise, it wouldn't get flocked like *that* but, well, I've always loved anonymity on the internet so social networking sites are not really my style. Well, it's not really surprising that Filipinos are avid users of social networking sites. Filipinos, or really, people are social beings by nature. Add to that the fanaticism of our culture and there you go... =)

Yeah I guess friendster was the one who started it all on social networking sites. They were the ones that started this trend and we the Pinoys were the first that appreciated this concept and it has become widespread usage. But with the introduction of these many social networking sites nowadays the traffic was divided already plus the fact that there came a time in Friendster management that they have failed to manage the site properly that paved way to many more sites like it that became popular. but right now Friendster is also the site that I am used to whenit comes to social networking.

Well, that is not at all surprising... since most members of friendster are Filipinos from all over the world... and that number keeps on getting bigger and bigger... even Filipino kids in grade school have a friendster account... and even those who are old and retired are now spending a lot of time updating their friendster account...

Your absolutely right about that, and you know what? I was being thankful in that site. I found All my former batch mates and friends for almost 20 yrs not seeing each other... imagine that 20 yrs.. and only friendster gave us clue where to find each one. We conduct our 20th year reunion this last June and with the help of friendster we successfully made it the best reunion ever.

yep! I am so sure of that fact as well.lolz.. At first I thought friendster was only a community for filipinos because even if I look at the search engine of friendster it always gives me the list of filipino members. I think friendster is better as well than myspace.

If Friendster is the second, then what is the first and the third? I think Friendster is thee most popular among Filipinos because it was publicized and people know it very well. And I think Filipinos are too friendly so they make new accounts. Who in the world would have more than 2000 friends from other countries! hahaha

so true, I think even the kids here have friendster accounts 9guilty of that, have one each for my kids ) I also thought that friendster started social networking, i never heard myspace, multiply before. Now there is facebook and still a lot prefers friendster. I like friendster if not for the issue that I had with my relatives in my account (sad to say I have to delete my account) and now I only use multiply, but ever since I have joined mylot, I am here mst of the time, hay, talk about social networking
