Why can't my sister accept who she is?

I am half Filipino and half white (with some Amerian Indian mixed in. I am proud of my heritage. My sister on the other hand is another stor. She is full Filipino but insists on telling people she is white. When she fills out forms asking about race she marks the Caucasian box. When people ask her about her ethnicity she says she is white. She even told me that I should not mark down other or mixed on questions that ask about race because Filipino is white. I know that it is her life but it upsets me because it is like she is trying to deny her heritage and it upsets my mother who feels insulted by my sisters actions. I just had to get that off my chest. Has anyone had any similar situations with family members or friends?

Is there any reason for her to not liking the Filipino? She is full Filipino blood and yet denying it! Because she is an American citizen now! You can always change your citizenship but not the blood that is running through your veins! To be honest I don't understand why! And I can understand that your mother feeling insulted, ohhh boooy that sad though!

Yes it is like a slap in the face to my mother. I guess she thinks that she will be more accepted if she says she is white but she definetly looks full Filipino.

I think you should let her do what she wants. I dont know either of you so i can't judge, but, personally if you were marking that on a college app. you want to mark other than caucasian! :P hey im 100% Greek, i usually just mark caucasian. what should i mark? haha
