If you were named after one of the states of the United States of America, which one would it be and why? Why did you choose that? Please be original, ones such as Carolina, Virginia, and Dakota are strictly out, yes I know they are part of the United States but are very nice sounding names...
I think I would prefer something such as Texas, it's unique and definitely something that would make you think. I suppose I'd like the reputation, atleast the sweet southern girl reputation that I would hope to get from the name.
So what about you?

I would say name me after Arizona. I think its a different name and would give people a differet prospective of the meaning. It's very unique and for short, people could call me "Ari". I think its beautiful!

Ari, that does sound beautiful. I think that a lot of people would have different perspectives of the name and with a name like that you might just be popular! Great choice! I appreciate the response!

Well baby you eliminated my first choice which would have been Dakota because of Dakota off of the old cartoon Cowboys of Moo Mesa but other than that I would have to say that if I had to be named after a state I would pick either Montana or Colorado because the other two characters in the show Cowboys of Moo Mesa are called Moo Montana, and the Colorado Kid,and I would love to be as tough as they are on the show.

Montana or Colorado, Pretty Cool Sounding Names! Montana could be shortened Monty for a guy, or Tana for a girl as I don't see Tana as a shortened form for a guy. Colorado could be Cole, or Collie (though sounds too much like the type of dog, border collie) or Rado even!

I am not quite sure what your saying... You saw a movie with a character entitled Montana? Montana is a beautiful name though, a few other people had picked that as well. Have a wonderful day.

I choose Nebraska - I'm not sure why... I just like the sound of it. I spose it would get shortened to Neb or Nebbie? I dont really know anything about Nebraska but I wouldn't want to be Wisconsin (though, I could then be Wissy)because I had some horrible cheese that came from there

Colorado. The ending of "o" signifies it is mail, since it is Spanish. And I like the state.

Colorado is Spanish? What does it mean? I've never heard that it's Spanish? I appreciate the response.

It means "ruddy" or "red" in Spanish. Nevada, Florida, New Mexico, and California are all Spanish.

I would say Kansas as a state not wonderfull but as a name its pretty awesome. I think I would choose that because when I think of Kansas I see a tornado and that is an excellent way to describe me. I am wild and crazy yet facsinating and destructive.

That is a very imaginative way to put it! I really enjoy that. So Kansas would be your name! :D

Hiya SomeCowgirl. I think you forgot to exclude Georgia on that list. LOL Anyway, I'd probably have to choose California just because I'm a California girl. That and because I could always shorten it to Cali as it could always be used that way instead. Just take a look at the link below and you'll see it's on the list of baby names... LOL
Happy mylotting!

Interesting discussion. I've never thought about this before. And I wouldn't choose the obvious like Dakota or Carolina. Those don't really sound nice to my ears anyway. And I don't think they would suit me. So I choose Wyoming. I also like the way Arizona, Indiana, Alaska, and Nevada sound. But my favorite is Wyoming.

Wyoming would be a great name. It reminds me of the name "Wynonna" and I am sure you'd get a lot of questions as to whether that is your name or not! Great work! I appreciate the response!

If I were a girl, I'd choose Maryland, because it sounds happy. Heehee.
Kidding aside, I'd go with Alaska. It's cold there, and that cold makes one tough against nature's blows. So yeah, Alaska. Low population count, kind of makes an impression of a loner, which I am at times. So yeah, Alaska.

Hmm, yes I think that Alaska is often seen as one of those States less populated then others. I like it, that'd be a strange name.

I would like the name Colorado. I love the mountains. Or maybe Nevada? lol But my perception of Nevada is yucky and boring. Am I wrong? I have to admit, never been there.

I know this question is old but I wanna answer it. I didnt read everyones responses yet so i dont know if anyone else mentioned this name yet but I would say Oregon. It may sound weird at first but it would be unique thats for sure and I think it could catch on. I guess I picked it because its my favourite state lol. I have always wanted to go visit over there, I think its beautiful.

While doing genealogy and working with the public for years I've heard pretty much all the names that have been listed so far. I also remember several people named "Kansas" and some named "Louisiana" and "Tennessee". I'm sure that there have been folks named for almost all of the states.
That being said, I might choose Kansas or Montana (since you knocked out Dakota!). Although not a state name, when I was at Girl Scout camp in the 60s my "camp name" was "Laramie"!

Yes, I can see the attraction to choosing an obsure one, so it stands out. But my favorite state name for a person is one of the most common, it's Georgia. Something about that name just makes me feel good. Maybe it's how you're reminded of a peach when you talk about georgia, I don't know.
