If you could cryogenically freeze yourself would you?

Okay. My full question is this: If you could cryogenically freeze yourself would you do it, and when would you have it set to wake you up? In all honesty this has been a question I've been thinking about for a long time. It started because of a show I watch called Futurama, and it kinda made me think. Yes, the future would be full of wonderful possibilities with amazing advances in technology and science. The idea of teleportation might actually exist and maybe we travel in tubes from destination to destination instead of driving cars or flying planes. That part sounds very appealing; however, I then begin to wonder about the other aspects of this. What if you were to awake into a future that wasn't what you wanted it to be? If you were to awake in a thousand years and robots ruled the planet, or aliens had taken over the world what would that be like? We've all seen the movies so of course you're able to put different scenarios into play here. The only possible solution that I could come up with is that I would need a list of terms and conditions that would have to be present to be woken from my frozen state. So if that is the case then what would your conditions be? The only things I've really been against so far are the following: 1. Zombies/Aliens/Robots can not rule the Earth. 2. Video games must still exist. (Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll be virtual reality) 3. I want puppies to stil be in existance. Robot dogs would be cool so I am willing to be settle. As you can see I've really gotten nowhere in my list. What do you guys think?

I think if aliens or robots attacked, they'd get rid of cryogenically frozen humans as well =P. If not, well I don't think I would. I love this time period and everyone I know lives here. If I were cryogenically frozen and wake up some time in the future, everyone I know will be gone and I'd be alone. While it may be interesting to see how technology will evolve, I think its better to take one step at a time and see technology evolve while you are living your life. I may never see humans colonize planets, but I may yet live to see cybernetic immortality!

I like your response. Okay, so you do have some good points. And just for the record, when I mentioned that aliens take over the world the cryogenic freezers are secretly stashed in some fascinating underground labratory. =P You are right though. Leaving everyone you know in this time period would be a difficult thing to do. Perhaps there is a family out there that would want to go together. I think, realistically, that seeing some of these crazy technological advances is possible within the next hundred years. And cybernetic immortality is so the same as freezing yourself, but with less body and more internet! =P

No way that i would like to freeze myself and awaken at a later point of time. I'm quite sure I would not be able to deal with the future generation however scary or nice it may seem. The whole thing will be so unreal like a nightmare.

I can see what you're saying with that =) It would be scary - especially depending on what you woke up to. I think that freezing yourself is a thing that not anyone is possible of doing. There are so many things you would have to give up to go on that type of adventure - but I do think there are people out there who would do it. Isn't anyone as curious as I am? =P

Oh no I wouldn't wnat to come back , I would hate to think what this world will be like in even a matter of ten years let along further down the track, I think i will be happy to just live the time I am given.

In that sense there are a few view points I'd like you to consider. If what you are saying is true, that you are concerned about the trek the world is headed on, then if one were to be frozen for a thousand years, would society not have enough time to crumble and rebuild itself as it has before? The other view point I'd like to offer is that I am concerned about the problems we are facing today as well, but I am also hopeful that we will be able to find a resonable solution and continue on..
