... of my latest project?
Before buying more yarn, I'm going through the partial skeins I have to see what I can use up, then will buy more of those colors to finish the project. I'm having fun with different color combinations that one may not normally find together.
I'm going to make some afghans to fit a twin size bed that I will donate to patients at the VA to give a little color to their otherwise sterile room.
Here's a picture of my most recent project in a simple ripple pattern.
What are you working on? Do you donate or sell any of your work?

I bought a green knitting loom. I have had some playing with it. I have really only made My husband with it so far! I really do not have any old yarn here. I have not done that many projects. I would like to get a knitting machine one day, and make some blankets with it. I have heard that once you get them threaded you can make a blanket very fast

Hey that's nice! I also love crafts but I'm a frustrated crochet crafter. I can do alot of things except crochet or any kind of yarn work. I have tried learning but no, I can't do it.
My expertise is cross stitching. I have sold a lot too because we have a craft store before. I also gave some for free as a gift. I also accept orders from people who can't sew but wants a specific design so I sew it for them. I can also do some beaded jewelries and I sell them too.
With regards to your question whether to sell or donate, it depends if I make the project merely just for giving it, I will give it for free of course. Otherwise its for selling purposes.
Ciao!

I did cross stitch also for several years and had built up quite a large amount of thread, several of those plastic containers full of the cardboard bobbins. I had trouble finishing projects, though.
Ended up not really doing anything for a year or two and was divorcing/moving and needed every penny I could get my hands on, so I sold all my thread and patterns on eBay. Make a few bucks on the thread, that's for sure.

I sold my cross stitch supplies.
eBay is pretty complicated anymore, and yes, there are fees.

I would love to learn how to quilt, but don't have the patience, or anyone to teach me. I had a book once with all sorts of needlecraft and it showed how to make a tied quilt very easily, and often thought I should try that.

I think that it is really lovely, I am knitting a baby blanket at the moment only a practise one to see how it turns out. If it turns out nice I will try and sell them, although I would consider donating as well if they are up to scratch! Although I can see by looking at yours that I need to do a lot more practising!

I am my own worst critic I think, I always think that my work looks bad! I have no photo of it yet as I am still completing it, but when its done then I will show it off!

Why would you say that you need more practice compared to mine? There is nothing special about what I do, I prefer the simple patterns that don't require a lot of thought and counting, that I can do easily while watching TV or whatever, and not lose my place.
I'm sure your blankets are lovely. Do you have a picture to share?

That's nice!
I want to know how to make it rippled like that.
I can only make straight rows. How do you get it to do the turn?
I can't figure out how to read instructions on that kind of stuff either.
I need someone to show me.
I just finished up something yesterday. The only thing I can do to make it not so bland is to use multi colored yarn. Then put solid stripes through it.
So that's what I did. I just made a throw that is multi colored pinks and purples.
I keep the things I make or give to friends. I don't think mine are nice enough to sell. I don't have the patience to make them perfect. I just like to crochet to relax.

The ripple is about the easiest pattern to learn. All you do is put three double crochet in one hole and that's what makes the peak.
I find crochet very relaxing too.

Oh Wow, Thanks! That sounds Easy!
Why don't they just say it like that in the 'Learn To Crochet' Books? Lol!
One more thing...
How many do you crochet in a row, and what number of the row do you do ripple?
I'm going to Walmart today to buy some more yarn!
I still have some from the last one I made, but after I get done making one, I no longer like to look at that color yarn anymore. Do you get like that?

I think that is a wonderful idea. I am working on a similar pattern with a varigated yarn. I've been working on it for the past three years and I only have half as much done as you do in the picture. LOL
Most of my creative energy these days goes to scrapbooking because I can finish a page so quickly (in comparison to crocheting). I think that I will get more time in the winter when the kids can't go to the park. :)
The veterans will love the fact that not only did you think of them, but that you put the effort into doing something for them.

I am a veteran myself and use the outpatient facilities there, and my husband has been an inpatient, so I see how they live. The accommodations are adequate, but obviously very hospital-like.
I've seen the rooms that have an afghan folded on the end of the bed and it looks so much nicer and I know they appreciate it.
I'll make some throws the size that would work with a wheelchair too.

I like the colors you ae using so far. You do nice work, the stitches seem to be very even. These colors willwork for male or female. It is nice you are doing this to donate to the VA hospital. I once made samll lap quilts to donate to a nursing home my grandmother lived in. It was fun seeing them being used whenever we went to visit grandma. I've grochets baby afghans for a hospital before too.
Right now I am working on altered art. I am painting car tags to turn them into wall art. I will consider selling them and donating some of the money to a Boy Scout Troop. Right now I am just enjoying the creative process.

Turning license plates into art? That sounds really neat! I'd love to see pictures of what you've done.
I had these colors on hand and decided to see what I could do with them, and decided this worked. It doesn't hurt that they're the same colors as the camouflaged uniform is, LOL.
I've got one for a wheelchair that is almost finished, just need a few more rows.

That is a very nice afghan... i like the color combination... you sure have a talent when it comes to crochet... and combining yarn colors... this made me think of my cross stiching days... i did a lot of those large Angel designs... some of them i sold to co-teachers... and some i gave away as gifts...
I think i will start cross stiching again... i just hope i fine time to do it...

It is terrific to hear that you are donating your creations to the patients at the VA. I often knit a few scarf & hat sets for children and donate them to causes that will get them to those who need them most. I don't have the time to knit as much as I once did, but I still make the time to make these sets. (I hate hearing about children going without and all of my sons winter coats, gloves, boots etc get donated to Goodwill or any group that gets them where they are needed most)
The Etsy group that I'm proud to be a part of, EtsyNJ, also donates items for Chinese auctions when the auction is held for a good cause. We have done a couple and have another coming up next month (this one will benefit animals)
I think the last one we took part in, over 40 pieces went into a large basket and it raised a great deal of money. Hopefully, we can do just as well for the animal organization.
I love the threads where myLotters are giving back! A big to you!!

I've always wanted to donate an afghan of mine for an auction for a good cause, but I always seem to find out AFTER the auction is done!
I need to keep a look out for that sort of thing, though. I think it would make a nice donation and I'd be interested in seeing how much someone would bid for one of my afghans.

That is a wonderful thing that you are doing and I am sure the patients will appreciate it greatly! I have made baby things before and donated them to the hospital for the little ones that have to stay in the hospital for a while.
My grandchildren have come to expect their knitted stocking caps every year for Christmas. The older ones have pretty much outgrown mittens, but the younger ones still like them.
Years ago, when I was in high school, I knitted things and sold them to the other girls, but I just knit either for family or as gifts.

I've always thought that I wanted to learn to do gloves and socks, but I've never learned to do four-needle knitting. I have done a few sweaters for my nieces, but generally just smaller items.

I try to spend a little time in the evening while watching TV, and since I'm home all day, I'll take a break here and there and do a bit too.
Like I posted above, I have new colors now and can't wait to get started on another!

I learned to crochet many years ago and haven't done it since. I can tell you that I love afghans. In fact i have one on the back of almost every chair and sofa in my house! I think it's great that you are donating them to the VA and wish I could something so nice!
To answer your question, my newest project is to care for a family member. Far from making something but still a giving project of sorts!
Bless you for your efforts woman!

I have them scattered throughout the house too, usually one neatly on the back of the cough then an older, grungier one that I use to cover with. I'll often have one on the end of the bed too, for when it's cooler than normal.

Sound like you are enjoying yourself with your project it looks very nice. Most of my blankets start out using left over yarn & just start building from there.
Sometimes I shop on E-Bay and buy bulks of yarn when I buy it usually have not a good idea whats in the bundle but all the times I purchased yarn I always got a good amount & was able to use mostly all of the yarn so good luck. For my projects & supplies I need a whole room so we have a 3bedroom house with a den the den is the office ,our room , the guest room & then my yarn supply room my hubby just shakes his head have a good day

I still have a ways to go on this one and I bought more yarn this morning at WalMart for yet another one.
I'm anxious to start the new one as it will be colors I've not used before and I want to see what it will look like. Obviously I'll post it when I have enough to take a picture of.

Those colors look well together, and what a good idea to donate them to the VA. I haven't crocheted in probably close to 5 yrs. I use to make blankets for my kids and grandkids. I have been trying to concentrate on writing, hehe the never ending novel, so a lot of the things I use to do have just fallen to the wayside. I may just have to pick up so yarn and a needle or two and make a little time for it. Thinking about it I remember what a good stress reliever it was.

It really is relaxing, and you can do it and still watch TV or hold a conversation, or even while riding in the car (although I wouldn't recommend it if you were supposed to be driving).
I always have a smaller project that I take when going to the dr or some other appointment, so I have something to do while waiting. Great conversation starter, too.

That's a cool looking afghan and a good idea to use up what you have on hand. I only knit - have never been able to get the hang of crochet. I can't knit very long at one time any more so don't get as much done as I'd like. Right now I'm making a throw for my daughter for Christmas, then I have a couple more planned for Christmas if I can get them done in time.

Very pretty and a great thing to do, once my class of students painted memory boxes that we donated to a hospital for the parents of babies that really never lived. It is a place for them to keep what memories they have from their child - a hospital bracelet, a little shirt and cap etc.

I am doing the same thing, I am using two yarn colors together at the same time. I am using pastels together with multicolor brights and I wasn't sure how it would look at first, but it looks really good. The pattern is a ripple using hdc and tr, I am using a size H hook with worsted weight yarn.
