Can you sleep on a standing position?

Does anyone can sleep in a standing position??? i guess that is not sleeping but mere closing your eyes, because i believe in order to say that you are in the state of sleep you must be relaxed and not thinking of anything even balancing , If you are in a standing position you are in a balancing act so how come ???? hummm

Oh that would be too hard. I can't do that I am sure! I can only sleep when lying down or sitting in a very comfortable chair. Other than those positions, sleep will no longer be attainable. What you watched is really something incredible. What could be the reason why he would not want to seat down? There must be some disorder in him!

I guess if I was sleepy and tired enough, I could sleep standing up. I knew a man who did this at a job where I worked. I would not want to do that for three years, though.

Hello there slave. I can't and would never sleep on a standing position But I know someone who can sleep like that. He's a choir instructor. While he stands in front of his choir group, he could sleep without falling. I couldn't believe it but it was true. He has health conditions.

I don't think it was possible for me to sleep upright or standing. It was too uncomfortable, and even though I am very sleepy, I don't think I still can. It was quite odd too for people who can do that and well admiring too.

hahahaha no, I cannot do it. And I haven't tried it. There are so many unbelievable things in Ripley's Believe it or Not and I think that it's awesome when people have their own special abilities. Some are really weird abilities. =o)

I can if I am tired enough. Matter of fact, I have done that before. At work one night, but I was beyond tired.

i dont think i can sleep while standing unless im standing in an area where i can lean on or whatever..wow...so is it possible then....

No way could i sleep standing up...I know my Mom use to be a nurse & she worked nights and sometimes she would get so sleepy she would fall asleep while walking & would walk into the wall & it woke her up.I supposs you could fall asleep if very tired but no way could i ever sleep standing up..

Oh I can't sleep standing, I might fall. i can't believe someone can. I don't know what happens to my feet and legs after standing for three years. I can't do that.

Wow! Thats very odd! It is funny that you brought this discussion up. I was talking to my brother not to long ago about how tired I was lately and we both found out that this has happened to us!Not full blown sleeping,but falling asleep standing! It happened to me twice. I've just been so tired lately. I was standing up, closing my eyes then the next thing I remember was feeling like I was about to fall,that made me wake up really fast! The worst part about it is it looked really dumb. My mother was in the room and she was just staring at me then finally said "what was that about?" Thank God it wasn't out in public!

never never never!!!! thats would be an embarrassing situation!!! i cannot sleep until i lay down flat in my bed!!!!!

don't know about that.. you would have to be really tired and wanting to sleep badly and you are in no position to lie down or rest that you would fall asleep standing.. i once remember a train journey in which i had to stand for 5 hours because of the rush before i could find some seat.. it was night and i was all alone ..so it was kind of boring.. i tried sleeping standing on my feet just to pass some time.. i couldn't snooze off even for a minute.. guess it comes with real practice...:)

I would go nuts if I had to stand up for any length of time. I have a physical challenge that makes my life more comfortable to live on my butt, rather than on my feet, I would not imagine sleeping while standing up. I like to be sitting down or dying down. I only stand when I am walking somewhere. Why was the guy standing? Trying to break a reecord, or because of a medical condition?

I can't, but my cousin can. My cousin has a story, in fact. While travelling in a Govt.'s bus in Delhi which was so congested, he fell asleep standing. Since it was so congested he did not have to hold the rope also. Suddenly he started speaking while he was still asleep. Then co-passengers woke him up. Fact is that he talks every night while still having sound sleep. So he did it that day, not night, too. Came back with a story to tell, and we had a great laughter!
