Would you prefer E-mails to traditional letters?

As one of the greatest invention of the past century, E-mail is playing a more and more important role in our modern life. Many people are exchanging information by using this swift and cheap communication tool. Some people believe that E-mail makes the relationship of people closer than ever before, while some others insist it makes people drift apart. For my part, I share the former point of view. First of all, sending E-mail costs much less than sending a letter by traditional way. This can surely make the communication among the relatives and friends more frequent. Wherever you are, you can send an E-mail by a click of mouse, and it could be received by someone else even in the other end of the world after a few seconds. E-mail is the easiest and fastest way of communication. By this way, people can send letters to anyone in the world who can have access to Internet without concern of the high postage. Compared with the traditional letters, E-mail undoubtedly has a lot of overwhelming advantages. It combines words, pictures and sound into one file, making the mails vivid and enjoyable. No wonder more and more people, especially the young are showing the enthusiasm for it. E-mail provides personalized service to us, so that we can know each other better and maintain the intense links with others. My friends, do you agree with me? What would you prefer when you'll exchange information with others?

I like getting emails from friends but nothing compares to receiving a real letter in the mail. Maybe its becaue it is so rare or maybe it is because you know it took time.

So long as my friends and family are making an effort to keep in contact with me, it can come in whichever medium they choose. When it comes to contacting them, I prefer the phone during normal waking hours, and email when it's late at night (late enough that it would be rude to call just to chat) or if I know they're at work. Tangible cards are always nice at holidays and birthdays, but an ecard is just as good. Anymore, I don't want the paper clutter around my house anyways.

I am a supporter of both. Email certainly makes things a lot easier when needing an immediate response. However, when it comes to being more 'intimate' or 'personal' I prefer to use old fashioned paper and pen. When it comes to letter writing, I even go as far as using a quill, fountain pen, or even calligraphy pens. Sometimes, I use parchment paper. Most of my letters are sent with a wax seal. I think it depends on the situation which is better. well, it is for me. Email is great but I stick to the great art of letter writing when I can. Liv

I prefer email because it is quicker, more convenient and keeps me in touch with people no matter where they may move to.

Im indifferant about the two. I would prefer traditional letters, because there is an excitement about receiving a letter and reading thru it. It kind of keeps that connection with the "actual" human world. Email on the other hand is very convienient if you have access. You can simply type up what you want to say to someone and press a button. It does not involve fees or the cost of paper and ink. Not to mention is quite time saving because most people can type faster than they write. Email is not as intimate as a written letter can be.... But you can personalize your emails quite a bit. I would have to say though I still like to write traditional letters.

Email is indeed a great invention. It's as great as SMS. However, perhaps I have not written a letter nor received a letter for a long time, I prefer traditional letters. Through a letter, I can put my artistic talent (or lack of) into use. I can draw all the cute diagrams I want and use my favorite pen to write. I also love to read letters as through letters I can see the personality of a person through their handwriting.

I will say i prefer traditional letters ^_^ Because it brings me much anticipation as compared to e-mail which is so fast.. lol =D Fast or slow doesn't really matter to me, as i only want the process of waiting.. hehe.. The waiting is a feeling whereby one both parties will know and the unexpected waiting time for the mail to arrive makes it even more fun.. lol E-mail on the other hand is fast, but it lacks the emotion and sincerity from the writer themselves, which makes the whole thing like lifeless, with no emotions.. Thus a traditional letter will be the one for me ^_^

I personally prefer emails, but certian people either do not have this knowledge and/or accessability. I used to go out every sunday morning and get the sunday paper but now prefer CNN and the internet. Think about all that paper and the trees. Such a waste.

I like e-mail messages. That way, I can reply right then. When I receive a letter by snail mail, I'm inclined to put it aside with the thought that I'll answer it later. Usually I forget about it until I run across the letter. Frequently, it still isn't a a convenient time to sit down and answer it, so the letter gets set aside again. For me. e-mail is better so long as we're not exchanging confidential information.

i would say i think both of them have their respective features~~ i am using email more often than traditional letters, for one reason,i spend much time in going online so it is more convenient for me if i want to contact my friends through internet, for another reason,it is for free! However, this is not the only way i like to communicate with my friends,i also like writting letters~~when you write you put more heart into the letter and the letter would be filled with the writer's enthusiasm and happiness, plus the pleasure of sending the letter and the expectation of waiting for the arriving of the responding letter is fun~~~ i dont think modern email would take place of the traditinoal letters~~~

i havn't written paper letter for many years, email lead this happen,it is convient and fast,so it has bcome the first choice for most of us.but i still to say, traditional letter can express our emotion better, though it cost you more time, but it can show your effort, that is what the email can't retain.so ,if we have time, why not to review that feeling ang give your friends a surprise.

e mail is preferred because of speedy delivery. Another reason is that its cost effective and can carry long message as well.

i like traditional letters because you can keep it in your belongings and anywhere you like to put it. but emails are now the trends because of fast delivery in just seconds. so it greatly depends on what type of mail. if it is love letter i prefer it to be send traditionally, but if it is a business mail or just saying hi, then email is a good method.

In my younger years when I was in a relationship before marriage, there was no such thing as the internet, and email was not even in existence yet. The most common means of communications with your loved one you are dating is either through the telephone or through letter writing. Nowadays thanks to technology advancements over the years, email, messaging and SMS texting have taken over snail mail as the convenient means of communications. I too am embracing these in my dealings and comms with others. But if you ask me, nothing replaces letter writing between couples in a relationship. Letter writing is an art..it teaches one to express himself or herself, translate thoughts and feelings into words, and allows the person to share and express his/her feelings with the partner in ways emails and texting cannot achieve. The warmth of a relationship can be expressed and felt through letter writing. My girlfriend (who is my wife now) and I used to write letters to each other. It is always a joy to receive a letter from her in my mailbox, and I will always wait with anticipation for the postman to come by with her letter. I have now been married 22 years, and you know what? The letters I have received from her were so sentimental to me that even until today, I have all her letters nicely kept in my cupboard drawer. Those letters were so meaningful and special, and I will forever cherish them as long as I live. If email was around when I was courting and we exchanged emails in our courtship, I probably would not have them around anymore today.

I will say that email is remarkably faster. I like that. Then again, getting a post-office delivered letter implies a certain sense of effort and time which might make it seem more precious because of its rarity.

I prefer E-mails, I think there is less miscomunication that way. Letters take so long to get to people and then the person has to take time to respond. I now use the mail only for formal things like Thank yous and such. LOL

I would have to agree with the majority of the people here, I like both, but it's always nice to recieve something in the mail such as a letter, birthday card, and because of email, it actually makes it more special to recieve something in the mail. Just the other day I recieved a letter from a friend back home, the downfall? I lost the letter, which COMPLETELY SUCKS!!
