When paying my bills I write checks and send them off through the mail. The ones that's local I go and pay them in person. Electric, water & sewage, etc. I would like to pay my bills online I have that option but I have my doubts too. I just can't make myself do this. Do they still send the statements out through the mail system? Or do they email you statement? What if your computer breaks down and you can't get access to the internet.
How do you pay your bills?

Hey Chevee,
I love to pay my bills online. I came to realize that it is probably safer to pay your bills online than to put it in your mailbox, or even if you take it to the post office. How many times have you been told they never received your payment, even if you have the returned check? In todays society, their is risk in every thing we do. People are desperate. They steal your mail hoping to find money or access to it. Kids love to go into peoples mailboxes. They don't realize it's a federal offense.
Online billpaying saves me so much time, money and gas. No more checks to write, stamps to buy. And you get a receipt that you print out and you're set. You can still receive a bill in the mail, or receive it online. As you can see, the advantages for me, out weigh the risk. And if your computer breaks down, you get it fixed. Or do it by mail until you can get it fixed. I wouldn't go back to snail mail if they paid me.

I pay them all online. So does the rest of my family. Even grandma! I'm on capital one since that is my bank. I just log on to the websites of tmobile, dish, etc. Pay them online, then check my account a couple days later to see if they cleared. They will also mail you a statement or you can print one offline.

I pay pretty much everything online. In most cases you can opt electronic statements or if your not comfortable with that you can still get the bill in the mail. I get a lot of junk and spam in my mail, so I prefer to get the paper bill so that I don't have to worry about deleting it by mistake. Even if my computer is out of service, I can usually get access to one if I really need it, either at work, or a friend's laptop. It saves me time and money not having to run around paying bills and is sure does cut down on stamps. I guess that's wny the post office keeps rasing rates quickly.

All of the companies that I deal with which offer online bill payment don't make it a one or the other choice. I can mail a check or pay online, it's my choice, but I do pay many of my bills online. With my satellite tv company I opted to go paperless so I do get my statements via email, which I save on my computer, but I can easily change back to paper billing. Many of the companies which offer online bill pay also will take the payment over the phone so, if I waited until the last minute (which I usually don't) and couldn't get online, I could always call and do check by phone. I do find paying my bills online to be much more convenient and have never had any problems doing it that way.

We pay most of our bills online now. I alway get a confirmation number and save the receipt to a folder I have on my computer just for that. I will print them out sometimes, but have been paying most things online for close to 5yrs and never had a problem with a lost or late payment because of the mail. I do sometimes worry about internet connection being lost and ending up with payment not getting made because of that, so I have set my larger payments up for auto-debit and that way I know they will just get paid. And those places always send me an email to let me know when it is close to time for the debit to come out and then they send another email after the debit with a confirmation number, those are all saved to my email so I don't have to worry about my hard drive crashing and loosing all my receipts.

Hi Chevee,
I can understand where you're coming from. I tend to pay most of my bills online and they go out once per month from my bank account via direct debit or standing order. This is definitely a convenient way of paying your bills rather than having to send a cheque through the post. A cheque is still a good method of payment but I think that paying by online transfer through your bank is far more secure. If you pay your bills through your bank online then you will receive regular statements online. I have this option but I also chose to have statements sent to me through the post also so that I would have something in print. If you are unfortunate and your computer does crash then you can temporarily resort to paying by cheque.

Ohh...We are paying online in almost all of our bills here! Like phone bill, utility etc! We find it easy because we can just transact in one day!

I pay mine about the same as you do yours.. Some I pay by check, some, I pay in person and some by phone.. I like to pay by phone if I am not being charged to make the payment.. I don't like for a company to tell me I owe them an outrageous sum of money and then tell me I have to pay them more just to make the payment over the phone.. We used to have a cell phone service that sent a paper bill and charged .55 extra a month just for sending a paper bill in the mail.. I got so mad at them one day and told them to send my bill by telepathy and I would send the payment by the same method.. I never got another paper bill.. I think that sometimes they go too far in making up phrases to steal your money.. But I always pay mine by whichever way is most advantageous to me..

I always write checks for big bills but pay in cash for smaller ones and I pay them myself by going directly to their office or if I am not available I send my son or any or my relatives available for the job. I never send checks via mail.

My hubby does a lot of online payment; those that we can't pay online, we'd mail out the cheques - it beats getting caught in traffic jams, queues and the hassles of parking space.
My dad still prefer to go to the post office to do his payments. The post offices over here are multi-payment centres for utility bills, insurance and taxes. He's very conventional, and wants to see the receipt for his money immediately. He doesn't have much faith in the postal system, even less in the internet.

I have little choice but to pay all of my bills online. Most of my bills are back in Australia and I live and work in Egypt so sending cheques or paying in person is just not possible. I have been doing this for years now and have never had an issue with security or anything like that. I find it extremely convenient. I also request most of my statements electronically as well. And if you are concerned about your PC breaking down you can always schedule bill payments in advance so they will be paid automatically without you even having to log-in on the day.

We pay our bills through regular mail. But my husband has made a few payments online when we would forget and get right up to the time we would be afraid they wouldn't make it through regular mail. He would usually have to call the company in order to make the payment since we aren't set up to make all our payments online. But it's nice to know you can when you are pressing for time.
