Did you know I had two children? I sure didn't!

Yeah, Michael and Majesta are apaprently my two children according to the Housing Authority. According to the letter I got this morning if I don't bring in the birth certificates of my two children, Michael and Majesta, they are canceling my housing as of September 2, 2008.
But you guys know I'm single and have never had any children. I checked the address twice, and yes it was addressed to me with my address. Well, I placed a call to the housing office and of course got a message service. You can bet your bottom dollar I'm going to get this taken care of quickly because I don't want to lose my housing for two children I don't even have!
Now I know someone must have been put in a position like this before. Perhaps you got a letter addressed to you, but in the letter they are talking about things you've never done, you've never heard about, and have no idea where they got the information. Or maybe someone has come up to you, knows your name, but when they ask you about your life, they are associating someone else's life with your identity... Any stories?

The IRS put a lien on my house because someone with the same name as mine owed on a school loan. I only found out about it when my husband tried to increase the amount of our equity line of credit, and was turned down. Apparent IRS doesn't bother to check to make sure they have the right person, nor do they notify the person who's house they are putting a lien on. I had to go down to the bank with my ID's to prove I was not the person with the late school loan.

Well someone has been using my real name sending spam emails to people all over the world, I have reported it but nobody does anything. I have put up a website to explain what happens, other than that I don't know what else to do. I am sure these spam emails have ruined my reputation, or even worse make it hard for me to apply for anything online where I have to put my real name. It may also explain strange reactions of either strangers or family's friends when they know my name, I could just forget it all since what's important is that those who love me and I love know about me, but now that I am running a business I have no choice other than putting up a website to clear up my name.

I can relate that. It is difficult to clear up name, but time heal everything. I worked for someone, but someone pretended to be me and ruined my reputation and ebay account. I had to give up selling because of this. Some people still want money back but i do not even have them. It was someone's responsibility.

Hi AmbiePam, I received my yearly council tax bill and it had been folded into a window envelope with another persons bill too. All I done on this ocassion as their address was on it was forward with a note explaining otherwise they wouldn't have received and would be getting reminders. I had a baliff turn up at my door for a previous tenant and had to get my passport to prove to him that I wasn't this lady. [i]Congratulations on the birth of your two children /i] Ellie :D

hi ambiepam sure hope you get that straightened out soon.
I kept getting billed for prevention magazine which I had
]not ordered and had never received even one copy, then we found out someone was using our address here in our apt complex, getting the magazine and letting mine name get back to the
magazinebillers, because they used a spelling of my name I never used, for social security purposes I always sign anything with Patsie M. Hatley and this dame used Patsie Hatly so both the middle inital was left out and my last name was misspelled. lol. anway the billing dept quit billing me when I made the point of how I signed up for things. seems this lady even had the same number as my address only letters were reversed. anyway theyfinally tracked her down and made her pay . thank goodness for that.

You won't believe this Hatley, but after contacting the housing authority and actually going in, I got ANOTHER letter today telling me I would be out by the 15th of this month if I didn't bring in my birth certificates of my two children, Michael and Majesta. I mean good grief, how many times and how many people do I have to go through to get this fixed?

How can you deny little Mikey and Maji? They look just like you. Do you think you could claim them as dependents?
The only similar thing that happened to me was that I received a letter in the mail from the Chancery Clerk saying that they had discovered I was not eligible for homestead exemption on my taxes because I had a spouse living out of state. At the time I wasn't and never had been married. One of the girls I worked with knew someone at the Clerk's office so she called them and told them if they knew where my husband was I'd go pick him up. Turns out they had sent several people that same mailing in error.

Sounds like you and the mother of Michael and Majesta have the same last name and initials. I hope you got it straightened out. My late brother-in-law had a very common name, and he only had a first and last name, and there was a scum bag with the same name. So that the government did was to send letters out to everyone with the same and last name that their property was on lien and he had to send proof that he was not the guy and it cost him a bit of money to go to a lawyer and show proof. And when they decided to sell their house, they could not because even though they were innocent there was a lien because of a crook with the same name.
And there was also a man with the same name who had an account at the same bank when my husband was paying for his car, so they had to write X X who is married to A X X
so they would know it was him.

My goodness AmbiePam...so you have a secret life we don't know about?
What morons the Housing Authority...sheesh.
Well I have a story to tell. Now a lot of my friends here know that my mother and I were nearly evicted twice, once in 2001 and again 2006 uh, due to the cat problem my mother created. But some years before that, even long before the cat incident and we hadn't too many cats, around maybe 1992 I came home to find this letter stuffed in my door...it was an eviction notice..the kind that gives you only 72 hours to vacate or else ...Like WTF?
But in this case, the address and apartment number was right, but the names wrong...There are two sections of the building, one has one address with a 55 on it, the other 65...no doubt the eviction notice was meant for the apt number (same as ours) but for the "65" address while we're the "55" address....STILL I nearly had a stroke...I had to quick call the landlord, the lawyer mentioned the Housing Authority section for eviction issues that they got the wrong party and to please correct the issue. The reason these people were being evicted was for an eviction issue over non-payment of rent, which of course we weren't guilty of. Sheesh

Well congratulations to you on your two children, have you got everything you need to take care of them! Seriously though, that is a bit weird, how on earth have they gained the idea that you have children? It is either mistaken identity or something is not right, I cannot wait to see what they say and how on earth they have come up with these children even with names too. Very strange.

My caseworker with housing doesn't have her screwed on straight. I think she wasn't paying attention when she sent out letters to people who needed to provide information. Still, I've got to make sure she knows she made a mistake in case she really is associating my housing with another woman's. I don't want my housing to be taken away, and the other woman needs to know she has some unfinished business!

Well, you surely picked some cool names for those imaginary kids of yours.
Back a bunch of years ago, when I was still married to my son's dad, we got an electric bill that had a huge past due amount on it and a new hefty deposit that they wanted. And they were threatening to cancel our electricity if it wasn't all paid in 10 days. My son's dad was on Social Security and I worked only part time, so there was no way we could come up with $600! And we knew we didn't owe it anyway.
The electric company informed me that my husband had a second home about 2 hours north of us and he owed a bunch of money for THAT home. I told the lady she was crazy. She told me that the man gave my husband's name and SS# to begin service, but has never paid. She actually told me that my husband must have gotten himself a second woman and family and I didn't know about it. Wow.
After collecting the address, I called this little town in northern Florida and spoke to the town manager. She knew the house and the person who lived there. She gave me his phone number and the address and phone number of his mother as well.
I turned that into the electric company and they were able to charge the correct person. Seems they could have done what I did, though. Hmmph.

My s/o got mail the other day, and informed me that he has a son........he never knew existed, the letter was addressed to a 'jr.'. My s/o is not a jr, and he only as 1 daughter lol. But, his 'son' was offered a good deal for a car loan, he must be doing okay for himself lol When I saw it, I asked him 'is there something I should know?' LOL We also got mail addressed to a couple (her name is same as my first name) he wanted to know if there was something I wasn't telling him LOL But we have not received anything like you received, good luck on getting it straightened out, you might think about the tax deductions though LOL

Wow is it that easy to have children?? And already named aswell!! maybe someone wants to put their kids in a good home!! lol
They have probably got your information and someone else's mixed up, Im sure they do this from time to time , its when they are trying to do two jobs at once and they get muddled up!! They probably were sending out the same letter to this other person and forgot to alter the children on your letter. Im sure once it is cleared up and they accept they are to blame then they wont push it further. It must cause sleepless nights though worrying about losing your housing because you have to prove that you have two children when in fact you havent given birth at all!!
Hope you get it sorted and are able to relax about the outcome!!

This is terrible! I've never had anybody send me something demanding birth certificates for children I don't have, but the gas company once denied me service - get this - they would not let me PAY my gas bill. Even though my husband's name AND my name is on the CHECK I was trying to pay with, our address is on it, and it matches the address for the gas bill, which I had with me. I also had my license with my name and address on it! On top of that, they started harrassing me about an outstanding bill for someone who apparently has the same name as my husband but he lives somewhere in NEVADA and he's about 20 years older than my husband! I had to call my husband and tell him to call the gas company because I wasn't about to get a late notice because they wouldn't accept my check. Turns out that because I wasn't listed ON the account, they weren't authorized to take a check. I should have just put the payment in the drop box. Grrrr. It's been fixed so now they're very nice to me, figures.
I do have something else funny to relate. This is actually funny although it makes no sense. I have two sisters, and I have had people who don't even know me (not to mention either one of my sisters) call me by one of THEIR names. It would not be as odd as being called someone else's name but after growing up with them and having my parents accidentally call me their names, it causes me to pause JUST in case there's a possibility they do actually know me.

The internal Revenue Service said they could not complete the processing of our 2007 income tax return because we didn't file our custody papers since our divorce! We have been happily married for 22 years. Not to mention our youngest son will be twenty one in November. That's why he haven't received our stimulus check yet. Well, finally last Monday we got a letter saying our check will be mailed this week! That's government paperwork for you.
