I will stand by you, fellow coffee adict! I too consume large quantities of the energy giving, best way to wake up stuff of life. It has never affected my ability to fall asleep. In fact, many times it's the only thing that will help me stay awake. I am a night owl and not an early morning person so I NEED that first cup of coffee in the morning just to help get me going. Besides that, I just love the taste of coffee and really enjoy trying some of the new flavored coffee. I don't buy from Starbucks, though, it's too expensive for me, but I buy Eight 'O Clock, Folgers and Maxwell House and alternate between the flavored coffees. I do like Dunkin Donuts' coffee and especially their Iced Mocha Coffee. As Rachel Ray would say, "Delish!" And actually, tea has more caffiene than coffee.

I am also a night owl and for a while I was depending on my cup of coffee for a good nights sleep too.
Yup starbucks expensive so THAT could be my reason for not stopping by there lol
I will end up having some at work lol

well, I think drinking too much coffee is bad for nervous system. And it does harm to your health. You won't get asleep so easily. I think you'd better give up coffee. If you are really addicted to coffee, force yourself to get rid of it, LOL, though exactly it's very very uneasy. But just have a try.
If you catch insomnia, i think the situation is definitely worse.
I'm not a coffee drinker, but i tried ever, and coffee can of course be agrypnotic. But then i just can't fall asleep, maybe i don't get used to coffee. Then i never try it. If you guy really get used to it. and you cannot live without it, then you just have it.
But i think you'd better give up it

To tell you the truth I have such a good nights sleep when I have a nice warm cup of coffee and a slice of pie..
So I guess the insomonia thing doesnt affect me.
And One way or another Ill end up giving it up when enough people start to yell at me lol

well hello there my fellow caffeine lover! I love coffee and soda very much. I always have coffee in the morning to make me go working all day, If I dont have it I just feel sleepy and sluggish so either coffee or soda. Im just dependent on it I guess and but will do stop my intake of caffeine. Yes too much of it is really bad. Effects on me? well its interfering my hormone to function well, well my hormone is has really gone wrong and made it worse when I started taking caffeine everyday. and well I dont think its good for my bones too so I might switch to drinking milk lolz... for more calcium...

wellyou can still have coffee although just take it easy. My plan lessen my intake of caffeine and stick to water and juices. then if my body is not that really craving for caffeine then Im sure I can quit drinking caffeine. If I stop my caffeine intake it might make me drink more so lets just lessen it for now then see what happens _^

Hi Mark, welcome to the club.
Me for one, can't do without my daily cup. I've cut down to 3 cups now (too much nagging from hubby). Used to drink 5-7 cups per day.
I would need one cup early in the morning, to wake me up. Another one in the afternoon, to keep me awake (sometimes it gets very boring in the office). And the last one before bedtime. Surprisingly, I sleep better with coffee. Doesn't seem logical, right?

Sounds like you are definitely addicted to caffeine. My husband feels bad and sometimes does have a headache if he doesn't have his coffee. I used to drink coffee with him. But it bothered my throat and gave me indigestion, so I decided to stop. I never was addicted, though. So, last June 2007, I had my last cup and have not had a drop since! I don't even want it anymore. Why don't you try drinking just a little coffee every day until you can completely get off it. And, why not go another way so you won't drive by Starbucks.

Move to the desert and you wouldn't be distracted by Starbucks. Just kidding. But I do understand what you are saying. My husband said last night he wished he could give up coffee like I have. He isn't drinking as much, I don't think, but I don't ever think he'll give it up entirely.

I don't own a coffee maker. I own an urn. I have coffee 365 days a year and I'm sipping on a cup right now.
Air conditioning was invented so I could enjoy my coffee in the summer!

I am a coffee addict too. I grew up where everyone drank coffee, but I'm the only one among them who overdid it. It started in college when first, I used caffeine to help me stay up while cramming (I hope college students here don't see this as a good thing, believe me, it didn't serve me well),and second, I discovered that the coffee helped prevent my ashtma attacks (again, I am not recommending this to other asthma sufferers). Yeah, I have long noticed that I get terrible headaches when I don't have enough of the caffeine that my system is used to getting in the morning. Lately, I've been trying to gradually cut down on my intake, for health's sake.

A little coffee doesn't hurt you. A lot can, however. What I would recommend if you wanted to stop would be to pick a long weekend where you don't have too much going on (or if your job permits, play hooky and say you're sick- you'll feel like it anyway). Then, on that weekend, stop drinking coffee cold turkey. Instead, reach for orange juice and berries- they wake you up in a healthier fashion, and tend to last longer for you anyway. It's just not as noticeable a change as when you drink coffee.
You'll likely get the withdrawal headaches- that's why you don't want much planned for that weekend. Find something to keep yourself busy with instead of thinking about coffee. Try to resist going into Starbucks.
If you can do that, you'll save yourself several dollars you'd otherwise spend on your "addiction", haha.

I'm definatly addicted to caffeine as well...If I don't have my morning coffee(which very rarely happens)I won't feel like myself all day...It's terrible that I now have to really depend on coffee now, but it could be much worse...There's way more awful addictions out there that I'm proud to say I've never even bothered trying!

my husband is for sure, and believe me...i seen first hand what coffee does to you when you drink 12 cups in an hour and a half, for years. After he has even one cup now, he throws up. It tore his stomach up and he gets ulcers.
beware, everything you intake should be taken in moderation!

If you got a headache from not drinking coffee... i dont think that is a good sign. That is a withdrawl symptom, and to be withdrawing from caffeine certainly isnt good. I would definitely cut back on the coffee intake. I am not exactly sure if it can harm you, but I dont see how it can be good for you either.

Yes like everything too much can be a bad thing for you. I have a friend and he would drink a carafe of coffee a day. He is not a big guy by any means but after awhile he started noticing things. He could not get his hands to stop shaking, he had erratic heart behavior etc. He had an appointment and ended up in hospital for awhile. He had Caffeine at a toxic level in his system. They took him off ALL caffeine, no coffee, chocolate, soft drinks etc. It was like a month or something before his hands would stop shaking all the time. No he has coffee but in moderation.
As for me, yes I am addicted in that I need a coffee to get going in the morning. I usually have an emergency stash of dollar store instant coffee around as well in case I run out. I know I know belch but when the stores are closed, and its a long weekend that emergency coffee will temporarily fill the void.

Hi my name is Mara and I'm a coffee and milk addict. Seriously, I am. Anyway, it's actually okay to drink coffee or have caffeine intake every day. It's just a matter of how much caffeine you have. 1-2 is not bad but I think more has some side effects although it may also depend on the drinker's health conditions.
I've read this article about coffee:
"The latest research has not only confirmed that moderate coffee consumption doesn't cause harm, it's also uncovered possible benefits. Studies show that the risk for type 2 diabetes is lower among regular coffee drinkers than among those who don't drink it. Also, coffee may reduce the risk of developing gallstones, discourage the development of colon cancer, improve cognitive function, reduce the risk of liver damage in people at high risk for liver disease, and reduce the risk of Parkinson's disease. Coffee has also been shown to improve endurance performance in long-duration physical activities."
Here's the link in case you want to check out the whole article: http://www.health.harvard.edu/press_releases/coffee_health_risk.htm
I have about 1-2 cups of coffees a day and like you, I have a hard time passing by Starbuck's or Coffee Bean without having to buy Coffee or Ice Blended drinks.

drinking so much coffee is bad for the health and it is the risk for the cancer. i think you will be suffered from the sugar problem . so my suggestion is that leave that addict and habit and make extra prssure on water so try to drink lots of water. water cure 50 percent of the human diseases.

Well I started drinkin coffee when I was three. And i'll tell ya... it really does stunt your growth! haha but seriously thats about as bad as it gets. If you drink it black and serveral cups a day. You might want to talk to a doctor. But other than that it won't kill ya.

Hi Mark,
I'm Andrew and I can tell you, I am a caffeine Addict!! I get my caffeine buzz from lots and lots of cups of tea throughout the day!! If I'm reading a book or watching the telly, or whatever I'm doing whilst sitting in my chair, then I need a good, strong cup of tea!! I favour PG Tips! That seems to do the trick. I would probably agree with you about having too much coffee, but I guess when it comes to tea then I think you can drink as much or as little as you like. Cheers.
