Urgent: 11 Year Old Boy in Desperate Need of Your Prayers!

When something like this happens it really makes me realize how petty and actually unimportant some of the political nonsense we argue about here and elsewhere actually are! An 11 year old boy, a classmate of my granddaughter and a former teammate of my grandson who is two years older than him in both Little League Baseball and Midget Football since all the kids were tiny little things id literally fighting for his life as I write this. About two weeks ago he was riding or driving (I'm not sure of the exact details) a our-wheel ATV and it rolled over, trapping him beneath it. He was taken to the hospital where he was diagnosed with internal bleeding and injuries and bleeding but he was discharged in two or three days and simply told he couldn't play football for about three weeks. Just the other night we were talking about how lucky he'd been! Turns out, today he started running a fever and it spiked to over 106 degrees and he started with vomiting, diarrhea, and severe pains in his abdomen. Luckily his mother is a nurse so she immediately rushed him to the hospital. It was discovered he'd punctured his intestine and because all the contents went into his sustem and bloodstream he has a very serious infection. He came extremely close to losing one of his legs and his kidneys and other organs have started to fail and hes now on a ventilator. As I understand it, the fact he was in excellent health and very good physical condition because of his activity in so many sports is the one positive that may ultimately help him pull through this.
A few short days ago I and other parents and grandparents from the local football organizations were saying how it was so unfortunate the team had lost him for the first few games, the first of which was tonight. I and several others expressed our dislike for these kind of vehicles and we were talking about how, as I stated above, it could have been so much worse and many of the other parents vowed to not let their young kids ride or drive these ATV's in the future.
Some of you who are or were from Pennsylvania or surrounding states may be familiar with his father's business. He owns and operates Shannon Tire where they sell tires and do general auto repairs and he now has quite a few branches throughout Northeastern and Central Pa. and maybe even beyond, I'm not sure. They're a wonderful family and Stevie has two older brothers and a little sister. Mom and Dad never miss any of their children's games, practices or other activities and they're generous beyond belief both by donating money and equipment to the local sports programs and volunteering their time whenever they're needed. Please, pray for little Stevie Shannon and his parents Steve and Kellie not to mention Herbie, Jesse and Samantha and both sets of grandparents. This is a very sad story abouwhich I'll certainly keep you posted, hopefully with good news in the coming days. Thank you for reading this.
Annie

Thanks so much to everyone for your kind words and prayers. Here's the latest update I have:
He did well in the first surgery he had where they had to take part of the muscle from the buttock area and transplant it into his leg and also they had to remove part of his intestine and bowel and resection it. He'll have to have a colostomy bag for up to a year and he won't be able to return to school for quite some time. He was scheduled to go back into surgery today to make sure the muscle transplant "took" and if not there's still a possibility he could lose his leg. They said he's not "out of the woods" yet but the next 48 hours (which began last evening after he came out of surgery) will be very crucial. He was in excellent general health before this as well as very physically fit which the doctors said really is helping his chances of recovery. He's in good spirits and was more interested in whether his team won their game than anything else! The doctors said when he was initially in the hospital directly following the accident they'd done numerous scans and MRI's but due to the fact that with his injuries the swelling had continued to increase for some time following the accident that was why the intestinal tear hadn't been detected sooner, in fact it had probably happened later due to the swelling. It's just one of those horrible things but it wasn't a case of negligence by anyone at the hospital. To those of you who have expressed dislike for these ATV type vehicles, I'm in total agreement! They have their purpose but a bunch of little boys riding around up and down hills isn't one of them, in my opinion. To anyone here whose child rides or drives something like this or if your child wants one, please think long and hard! At the very least kids need to have it drilled into them to be very cautious and to not ride them on hilly or rough surfaces, go too fast, or put too many kids on them at a time. My grandson wants (or wanted) one, hopefully this will change his mind, but while as a gram I don't have a final say in the matter I already voiced my opinion to my daughter and son-in-law and I'm not usually one to butt in where I shouldn't. Hopefully I'll have some good news to update you all on later tonight or tomorrow.

It'll be close and crucial, that's painfully apparent. Still hoping for the best recovery. And as a fan and previous ATV user I'll say this, children shouldn't be on them, especially not with real off-road (forests, ridges, etc). I do not believe a ban should be in place, but instead more safety education and enforcement. Well that's just my bare minimum thoughts on it.

I sympathize with the family. Hopefully, the boy will make it through this, but it is all the boys hands and fates hands. The boy has to fight to stay alive. He cannot give up. My brother gave up, if he wanted to live, he would have eaten that morning. He did not eat the morning that he went into a coma and then had a heat stroke. That boy has to want to live.

Oh poor Stevie.......My thoughts and prayers go to the family and I pray to God to give him a miracle healing. May God's miraculous hand touch every part of his body so he can heal and go back to his daily chores. He has a will to get well and go back to his teams and thats why I think doctor did not notice that his intestines were punctured. I promise you that this boy by tomorow will be off the ventilator because everybody is going to pray for him and God is going to hear our prayers.
Give my regards to his family.

Hi Annie, I will most certainly keep little Stevie Shannon
in my prayers. I do hope that he will get well. I do believe
that this little guy is strong and most definitely a fighter
from what you have said and has alot of people on his side
to route him on. I hate those ATV, they are so dangerous and
young kids are just too small to even be anywhere near them.
But, what's done is done and now the only thing that matters
is that Stevie makes a full recovery so that he can get
better and hopefully got back to playing football again. I
will keep him in my prayers and do keep us posted and hope
to hear good news about him soon. Gob bless him and watch
over him and you Annie for being such a good friend!

Father, I come in agreement with Annie and ask that You will supernaturally heal this child and make him like new. I pray that You would reach down now and touch him where he hurts. I pray that everyone around him will have faith that You will pull him through this and that this is just a test of their faith. By Your stripes he is healed, Lord. Comfort this family and let them feel Your loving presence during this trying time. In Jesus Mighty name. Amen

He is definitely in our prayers. We had an adult friend that flipped his and broke his back in 3 places. He is ok other than that. Hopefully this box will be ok.
